In fact, the name is sure strange enough to attract the attention. The place is called Kuala Terengganu English Theme Park or ETP. This place offers learning eclectic
manners. ETP has outdoor stations and indoor stations with activities that will keep students occupied and engaged.
Based on 3 primary objectives promoting the use of English among school children and the surrounding community of Kuala Terengganu,
providing a variety of teaching and learning resources and finally, offering an alternative teaching and learning environment. Since ETP has reached its 4 year mark, the time has come to take stock of effectiveness. Thus, this paper discusses the extent of the ETPS progress in achieving its prime goals. The subjects for this study are teachers and school children who were given the opportunity to utilise the facility. This paper highlights the views of the teachers and school children and the issues that they raised in using ETP in their teaching and learning process. The implications of the study are discussed and

INTRODUCTION
Over the years, English has been taught as a second language among Malaysians. On the contrary, despite its common use for
communication purposes, the standard of English in Malaysia has deteriorated drastically. Currently, English is considered as the killer subject1 in all the public examinations for students in numerous states in Malaysia. Coupled with lack of interest and unfavourable environment to practice the language, majority of these learners fail to achieve the required standard of mastery of the language. academic performance and later, their competitiveness in the job market. Numerous studies have shown that many tertiary students do not possess adequate mastery of English as their previous education did not provide them adequate opportunities to speak in English. Hence, they lack confidence and are not enable to perform (Littlewood et al. (1996), Lai (1994). This indicates that frequency of practice is a major factor leading to confidence and proficiency of spoken
communication (Lai (1994). To be sure Bloom (1976) purports that students with optimal attitude, motivation and self concept employ study time allotted to them efficiently and consequently exhibit high achievements. Hence recognizing this, the Malaysian government has stepped up measures to address the problem - rectifying the decline of mastery of English especially among learners in rural areas.
In this connection this effort, the Tok Jiring Teacher Activity Centre (henceforth, TJTAC) has initiated several projects to help address this issue. One of them is the introduction of the English Theme Park (henceforth, ETP) Project to generate the interest of the school community as well as the local people of Kuala Terengganu to learn English. Learners can experience a wide array of activities which are designed to both improve their mastery of English and enhance their knowledge of the world. Realising that the motivating forces for
learning emerges from both the learners own sensation or volition, i.e. interest, relevance, expectancy and the stimuli in the learning environment (Crookes and Schmidt (1991), TJTAC hopes ETP will trigger significantly greater interest in English Language among Terengganu students.

ETP OBJECTIVES
ETP is founded based on the premise that a learning environment which is conducive helps learners be more receptive and interested in their learning, and thus, able to master the language better as the learners are free to choose the activities to carry out and the time to dedicate to them (Aston, 1993).
It aims: to create greater awareness and generate excitement to learn English to promote the use of English Language among school children and surrounding community of Kuala Terengganu to provide a variety of teaching and learning resources to offer an alternative teaching and learning environment.
The activities designed for ETP are tailored to the needs of the students and prepared by teachers who are appointed as ETP Counsellors. According to Riley (1987), in a self-access approach
thorough learning, teachers act as counsellors. The facilitate learning by providing materials that give learners various choices in their learning. Shireen (1991) has pointed out that the in charge of such facility like ETP should consider the needs, objectives, interests, constraints and motivation of the learners before designing any activities or materials for ETP. By selecting a particular theme based on the existing curriculum, these counsellors integrate all the language skills to allow intensive use of the language. Organising curriculum
around a theme allows curriculum content and learning processes to be addressed within a meaningful context. Students are then able to make important connections in their learning and understand more of the lesson. Most importantly, all these activities are carried out by the students at their own pace.

PROJECT HISTORY
In 2006, the Tok Jiring Teacher Activity Centre (TJTAC), mooted an idea to set up a centre which would provide fun-filled activities for the children learning English. The concept was presented to the Principal

Division ( TSETD ) and Director of Terengganu State Education Department, who gave a thumb-up for the project. Then, TSETD
approached ExxonMobil (then Esso Production Malaysia Inc.) for some financial support. In 2007, the first funding worth RM 100,000.00 was approved for TJTAC Park. English Projects which included English Theme
In 2007, TJTAC set up an ETP Incubator team which came up with the concept. English teachers were consulted and several language experts from British Council ,Kuala Lumpur were approached to get their
views. The team observed how these institutions run their centre in helping learners to become competent English speakers.
Once the blueprint was completed, the next step was selecting a strategic location for ETP. Tok Jiring Teacher Activity Centre (TJTAC) was chosen as it is in the vicinity of Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu which is known for its efforts to achieve educational excellence. With the exixistence of the ETP, the needs of the people of Tok Jiring and its neighbouring areas in particular, to master the English language can be fulfilled to equip themselves with relevant skills. ETP, which is sponsored by ExxonMobil, has been very beneficial where learners
experience a multitude of activities which are specifically designed to enhance their knowledge and upgrade their mastery of English concurrently. Since the impact of ETP activities on the teachers and students in the area has been very positive.
Tok Jiring Teacher Activity Centre which is situated in Sekolah Kebangsaan Tok Jiring has been identified as a suitable site for ETP. It has a sizeable compound with attractive landscape. Kuala Terengganu District Education Office and the school itself are very supportive of the idea and will be the project partners while ExxonMobil will be our main sponsor.
ETP consists of two parts; the indoor and the outdoor learning stations. The first phase of ETP began to take shape in the fourth quarter of 2007. Part of the indoor section of TAC was torn down to give room for ETP indoor stations. The Memory Lane, the Vocabulary Shack and TJ Bistro made up the outdoor learning station and were the main attractions at the park. The indoor section of ETP opened its doors in Mac 2008. The Outdoor section was slotted to welcome users in April 2008.

LEARNING STATIONS
English Theme Park (ETP) is divided into two sections, the indoor and the outdoor. Each section has several learning stations. The indoor section consists of the Leisure Reading Corner, PC Island, Audio Corner (Listening), Visual Corner and Do-it-yourself Area/ Games Corner. The outdoor section displays the Vocabulary Shack, the Grammar Square, TJ Tunnel, Story Telling Corner and the E-Kiosk. A wide array of
learning materials can be found in both sections. Learning materials are selected based on the learners needs and some of them are produced or modified by ETP Councillors. TJ Bistro offers free wi-fi connectivity for online quizzes and communication. Ideally, a theme is selected annually and all the activities including the learning materials are prepared based on the theme. These themes are chosen from the syllabus and the first chosen theme was the Animal Kingdom.

ACTIVITIES
When ETP started its operation in April 2008, the number of pupils was limited because it only involved Tok Jiring Primary School (the school which plays host to Tok Jiring Teacher Activity Center). The pupils had indirectly assisted in evaluating the suitability and practicality of the
activities and materials. After its launch on the 25th of June 2009, ETP was officially open to all visitors.
Since then, a host of activities has been carried out at ETP. It has benefited thirteen schools and ten secondary schools in Tok Jiring. Some of the activities are specifically designed by ETP councillors for all the target schools while others are carried out based on request from schools involved.

Have you ever noticed how things look fainter the further away they get? Its a good tip to remember when youre creating pictures.
Cut some rugged mountain shapes out of a sheet of black card. The mountain peaks should be near the top of the page. This will make them look larger in the finished picture. Place the card on a light background.
Take a piece of tracing paper and cut it to the same size as the card. Lay it on top of your mountain scene, making sure the black sheet is completely covered. You will notice that the mountain shapes have now faded.

Cut some tree shapes out of black card. Put the card on top of the tracing paper. The mountains will now seem further away and the trees closer. The layers will give your picture a feeling of depth.
Place another sheet of tracing paper on top of the tree shapes. Cut out the shape of a house on a hill. When you put the new card on top you will have three layers of depth and The mountains will seem even further away.
Distant landscape
Place another piece of tracing paper on top. Draw a gate and a wall on a piece of card, cut it out, and place it on your picture as the top layer. The mountain range is far away in the distance, and you have created perspective. Look over the gate and see for miles and miles.

Fill the box with crumbled newspaper. Crush and model the paper inside the footprint to create depth. Seal the box flaps with

cellophane tape.
Slightly crush the box, crush the edges to make the borders irregular. Mix some glue and water, brush over the box and cover it with strips of paper towels.
Also cover the inside of the footprint with paper in a way as to create a basrelief shape. Pour the sand over it.
Let the glue dry and shake the box to eliminate any excess sand.

14.0 CONCLUSION
Since its inception in April 2008, English Theme Park (ETP) Project has successfully boasted the interest and motivation of school children in Kuala Terengganu to learn English. It has also attracted communities from other districts to emulate the idea. To ensure English Theme Park success and sustainability, active participation from all schools in Kemasek TAC and strong support financial are the two essential ingredients required. This will bring new changes in the way the children of Kuala Terengganu view English Language.
