Tu Shayde

Michael Williams, known as Tu Shayde on stage, is an emcee, lyricist, poet and producer whose music is often described as an electric and soulful blend of Hip-Hop and Spoken Word with a Christian in uence. Williams started writing in 1989 while coping with his mothers diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. His songs glamorized gangsters and thug living and his rst song was called Jack Move. After submitting his work to various record and production companies, Williams got some o ers. However, nothing truly satis ed his creative desires and expectations. So he kept writing. Williams started changing his subject matter to more positive and spiritual Christian rap, which he is known for today. Williams records under his own record label Tu Shayde Productionz. He is inspired by artists like Ambassador, Lecrae, Flame, Joyous Noise, Toc Roc, Dietrick Haddon, Ultramagnetic MCs, Heavy D, Prince, BB King, Chuck D, Scarface, Ice T and Above the Law. Last but not least, Batman! Williams refers to his studio as The Bat Cave. Williams considers his writing process a gift from God. He is known to pray over his songs and sometimes completes an entire track based on a simple phrase or situation. He hopes to use music to show what can be truly obtained in life and works to spark a greater respect for mankind and a deeper love and a higher respect for father gures and his creator.

Williams has opened for artists throughout Nevada including the West Coast Ru Riders, Mamas Trippin and Escalade. He has also collaborated with local artist like Leon Williams and his son Levi, Steve Yost, David Wells, Macc Money Records, Topher, Wes Pro Coliseum and Jason Carthan. In addition to being a semi- nalist for the Talented Nevada of Teens, Williams won his rst poetry slam at the Old Town Mall and has a poem called Love in Lifes Journey published by the International Poetry Society. Williams is often seen at open mics throughout Reno including at The Lampost, Java Jungle, Strega, West St. Market, The Jib, The Siena, Reubens, Knuckleheads, Walden and Mos Place in Lake Tahoe. He has also been featured on Renegade Radios Friday Nights 99.1 FM with Tock Roc for the Holyhiphopchurch. Currently Williams is working on recording several albums including Psalms 86:9, The Modern Day Blues, Conscience Dichotomy, En Garde and Spoken Tu You. He is also working on a book of poetry called Right World View, Wrong World. But books and albums are not enough! Williams is busy with an online video game and launching his own fashion line called Back to the Scriptures. Williams is pursuing a career in human resource management and has attended the University of Nevada, Renos Extended Studies program. Currently he is enrolled at Morrison University to attain a Master in Business as well. Ultimately, Williams hopes to cross all genres of music and change opinions through creating positive and spirit- lled works.
