2.
Prepared 2.5m 0.1m test specimen with 25 mm of insulation shall be remove from each end of finished wire. Closely wind a minimum of 3 complete of the first test specimen around the mandrel specified below :
Mandrel size
5X Outside
cable Diameter Maximum
3 2 0.5
3.
Prepare salt water into glass beaker with mixing ratio 10 gram / liter of Nacl in distilled water. Heat up the salts water until reach temperature 85C 5C.
4.
Remove the specimen mandrel and immerse into the 85C 5C salts water. Connect one end of test specimen to the positive terminal of a 48 V DC power source. Connect the negative terminal to the copper electrode in the salts water.
5.
After immerse 7 days, disconnect the power source. Measure the insulation resistance, and calculate the "insulation Volume Resistivity" as below : Po = 2.725 LR log D
Po L R D d
is the "insulation volume Resistivity", expressed in O.mm is the immersed length of the test sample, expressed in mm is the measured insulation resistance, expressed in O is the outside cable diameter, in accordance with 5.3, expressed in mm is the conductor diameter, expressed in mm
Results : The "Insulation Volume Resistivity" shall not less than 10 O.mm
6.
Step 2 ~ 5 mean completes one cycles. Repeat this procedure for a total of 5 cycles (35 days). After completed, remove the specimen from the salts water and allow it to cool to room temperature and make visual inspection of the insulation. .
7.
If no conductor found to be exposed by visual inspection, perform the Dielectric test as below condition.
7.1.
Dielectric test - Immerse the specimen into water containing 5% salts (Nacl) by weight at room temperature for 10 min. The specimen shall withstand the application of 1000 V rms at 50 to 60Hz between the conductor and the solution for 1 min without failure of the insulation.
8.
To start new test, replace the salt water inside the beaker and proceed step 2 to step 7
