Introduction to Rays of Development Organization:
Vision

Rays of Development Organization wishes to build a society with Justice, Peace,

harmony, health & education for all, democracy without any sort of discrimination, happy
and healthy people enjoying equal rights and greener, cleaner and pollution free mother
earth.

Rays of Development Organization (ROD) loves and respects every human being,
regardless of color, creed, sect, race, gender or dialect. It speaks up for those who are
helpless or can not speak for themselves.

beings”

Goals

It is Rays of Development’s utmost effort to facilitate, educate and forge understanding

among the underprivileged and uncared residents of the most neglected, undeveloped and
far off bucolic areas, about;

• Women and Children’s rights protection
• Create Interfaith peace and harmony
• Protecting the environment

History of Rays of Development Organization:

A few years back a small group of teachers, students, advocates, journalists and like
minded people from all walks of life started to sit together, share and express their
apprehensions over the social injustices and discrimination due to the social unevenness,
gender, religion, sect, color, dialect, and race. Increasing dangers to the Mother earth
because of global warming and environmental pollution, lack of education and awareness
about various social issues especially health, child & women rights.

This group of devoted youth started to meet and ponder upon these social issues
frequently and tried to find solutions of these social problems. This committed youth
group gradually started to transform into a non-profit, non-governmental and non-
Political but yet non-registered, charitable organization and started to meet at regular
intervals to ponder upon the problems of the society.

Registration

In December 2006 this enthusiastic youth group who had started to call itself “Rays of
Development Organization” (ROD), registered itself with the same title under the
Societies Act 1860 with vide registration no. RD/SGD/243, based at Sargodha, Pakistan.

Before and after the registration, Rays of Development Organization (ROD),

Sargodha, Pakistan (ROD) continued its endeavors towards building up a democratic
society without any sort of social, constitutional or institutional discrimination and
violence, with interfaith peace, love and harmony prevail community. It is doing its best
to provide each individual with the health, justice and education facilities. ROD selflessly
strives to reduce or prevent sources of pollutants severely damaging the Nature and
Earth’s atmosphere.

Governing body of ROD

All the decisions are taken by the Governing body per rules and regulations of the
organization, as described in the memorandum of the organization. Governing body

The objective of this bulletin is to bring forth the selfless endeavors of ROD in the above
mentioned fields;
Health;
Dengue Fever awareness seminar;

Rays of Development Organization (ROD) convened seminars about prevention and cure of
Dengue Fever at Chak (Village) # 79 NB & 87 NB, Sargodha , Pakistan. Both of these areas are
rural areas with majority of illiterate people. ROD did its best to provide hands on knowledge
about Dengue Fever.

Chak (Village) No.79 NB, which is rural area of Sargodha, Pakistan.

ROD activists disseminating information about Dengue Fever at Government Boys Primary
School Chak (Village) # 87 NB which is a rural area Sargodha, Pakistan.
Walk against drugs;

Rays of Development Organization, (ROD) took out a walk for the prevention and reduction of
drugs in the community at Shaheen Chowk Sargodha, Pakistan.

Rose Nama Bismil (a Local daily) and ROD (Rays of Development Organization)
arranged an Anti-Drugs walk in Sargodha in which other organizations and people from
different walks of life participated. Special consideration was given to Youth.

Education and Vocational/Skill development;

Rays of Development, Organization (ROD) is working altruistically for the promotion of
formal & informal education and vocational skill development, without discrimination of
gender. Following are some of the highlights of the efforts of ROD.

Rays of Development Organization (ROD) observed Nov 24th, 2007 with the motto
“Education for all”, Students presented songs, poems and dramas illustrating the problems and every
day needs of them. Participants of this seminar were school dropouts and their parents, ROD prodded
them to get admission in the schools and resume their educational activities.

Graduation ceremony for tailoring course for Girls;

This program was arranged in Christian colony Noori Gate Catholic Church Sargodha. In
this program the students who completed their one year diploma course in tailoring
received their certificates from Tehsil Nazim Sargodha Mr. Malik Shoaib Awan.
ROD(RAYS OF DEVELOPMENT) organization is running two tailoring school in
Sargodha one in Christian colony, Noori Gate and one in Sultan colony university road
Sargodha. 50 students received their diplomas, 28 from Noori Gate and 22 students from
Sultan Colony. Teachers of both the schools Ms. Shazia Emmanuel and Rukhsana Younis
were also awarded with certificates of best performance.

promote education among the uncared children.
Educatees and unlettered children deprived of the
facilities of education assembled at this program. ROD
urged that the parents should do every thing and make
every sacrifice to keep their kids studying.

Rays of Development Organization (ROD) Sargodha has constituted and launched ‘Higher
Education Program’ (HEP) to raise necessary funds for the unlettered, uncared and
deprived children craving for academic excellence.

Happy, healthy and prosperous Teacher means happy, healthy and prosperous Country

All the teachers and students assented that teachers are the builders of the nation; a prosperous,
affluent, ethically, mentally, spiritually and physically healthy society is not possible without the
active participation of teachers. Teacher set the course of a nation and the progress of a country
depends entirely on the teachers. Teachers are the models; hence in their hands is the future of a child,
family, society, nation and the whole World. Therefore happy, healthy and
prosperous Teacher means happy, healthy and prosperous Country.

Students Ms Mehwish and Ms Sehrish said that teacher’s day is the day to thank all the devoted
teachers who strive and make their soul, mind and body one for the better future of the coming
generation. Teachers must not overburden their students.

Provision and protection of Women and Children’s rights;

Rays of Development Organization, (ROD) staged a street theater on Women Day March, 8th,
2007 at Chak (Village) 79 NB, Sargodha for feminism. Chief Guest of the occasion was Mrs
Mehnaz Attah Chaudhary (Chairperson, International Human rights Commission,, Pakistan)The
stage show conveyed the message against female childhood marriages, promotion of female
education and their equal rights. It is noteworthy that most of the Pakistani people are illiterate;
therefore street theater is the best tool to disseminate the massages of mass interest most
conveniently and effectively.

The imprints of the stage drama “Who will protect the women rights?” left in the minds of the
indigenous people of the rural area were positive. And some of the male elders admitted after the
stage show that they had been discriminating with their
daughters, sisters etc. Furthermore they pledged to avoid this kind of discriminatory behavior
with female family members in the future. Highlights of this stage drama “Who will protect the

Let’s Protect the Rights of Children and Urge Government to Enforce

Rays of Development Organization (ROD) observed International Day of Children with the motto
“Save the Children and secure the future”, on Nov 24th, 2007 at St Patrick’s High School Gillwala,
Sargodha. Coordinator Child Rights Committee (CRC) SPARC and Advocacy Network Sargodha,
Advocate Shahid Nazir Khan was Chief Guest at the occasion and Mr and Mrs Chaudhary Mushtaq
Gill were the honorary guests.

Children. He also said that all the civil society
organization should forge unity in their ranks to
pressurize the government to enforce the Child Rights
Protection Act in the country.

Ferhan Mazher said that these dramas
played by the Children are not fiction; instead they are based on the bitter facts and real life
hindrances that bar children from getting education. He appealed to all the kind hearted to help such
students. Mazher maintained that Civil Society can play an effective and vital role in eradicating the
Child labor, child abuse and other problems related to the children.

ROD commemorates Children Day 2006 at Chak (Village) # 79 NB Sargodha, which

one of ROD’s target, rural areas. During this ceremony children were apprised about the
importance of education, modern day technology, health care and their role in the progress of
nation building.
ROD conducts survey to get an insight into the problems of female domestic
workers. Number of female workers were given a questionnaire to fill.

ROD altruistically efforts to Create interfaith peace

and harmony;
Rays of Development Organization is working hand in hand with the United Religions Initiative
(U.R.I) to build interfaith peace and harmony among the followers of diverse faiths, sects and
ethnic roots. ROD envisions a society where all human beings would live with perfect freedom to
follow their religious rituals without any sort of discrimination on the grounds of religion. With
democracy, tolerance, love and peace prevailing the World.

For this reason ROD has convenved several study circles with followers of almost all the faiths
dewelling inPkaistan. Photographic highlights are provided below ;

Study Circles to forge Interfaith Peace and Harmony in the Society ;

Focus of this study circle is to orchestrate and enhance understanding among the followers of
various creeds. ROD (RAYS OF DEVELOPMENT) organization arranged a study circle with
the co-operation of Dr. Shahida and prosperity planners’ organization in which the topic of study
circle was love and prayer. During the discussion Mrs. Sheerin told that we could make our lives
easy if we are the true follower of our respective religions. Mr. Nadeem Samuel explained about
prayers and love of GOD through Christianity. All the participants appreciated the work of ROD
(RAYS OF DEVELOPMENT) of its very sensitive issue of religious harmony.
Rays of Development arranged a seminar on religious harmony at Al-Maida Hotel in
December. Chief guests were Mr. Martin and Mrs. Jane. Participant of different religions participated
and discussed about religious harmony in the society. Dr.Farkhanda told that religious harmony is
need of the time. Sister Naseem George told the History and the Objectives of URI (UNITED
RELIGIOUS INITIATIVE).

ROD presses on Interfaith Peace and Harmony in a colorful Christmas-Eid program.

At the joyous, happy and auspicious occasion of Christmas and Muslim Eid-ul-Ezha, Rays of
Development (CC URI) (ROD CC) Sargodha, held an elegant and colorful Children program at
Christian Primary School, Chak (Village) # 79 NB Sargodha, Pakistan on Dec 23rd. During the
program Children of the school presented tabloos, Songs and quiz competition about the events of
Christmas and Eid. Children conveyed the messages against Child labor and abuse and to forge
Interfaith Peace, Tolerance and Harmony among the followers of diverse faiths and sects dwelling in
Pakistan.

Chief Guest of the event was Pakistan Campus Crusade for Christ (PCCC), National Director Mr
Shahid Kamal. Addressing the gathering Kamal said that Pakistan is our home, and we, regardless of
our faith or sect should create unity in our line, co-exist peacefully and work for the prosperity and
development of the nation.

distributed Eid and Christmas gifts among the participants and students at the culmination of
the Eid-Christmas program.

ROD helps socio-economically deplorable Muslims on Eid-ul-Fitr festival to build

On Friday Oct 12th, 2007 almost two days ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, Rays of Development Organization
(ROD) distributed Eid gifts among the appallingly poor inhabitants of a sordid slum consisting of
approximately 350 huts, situated on the outskirts of Sargodha city. Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the 1st
of Islamic month of Shawal after the conclusion of Islamic Holy Month of fasting, the Ramadan, to
commemorate the start of the descending of Holy Quraan. Eid is the day of triumph after 30 days of
fasting, exceeding joy and felicity. It is the day when children wear new colorful garments and get
their Eidi (Gifts/Money) from their elders. Poor are paid alms and the families exchange gifts
especially home made sweets and Pastas.

Chairman ROD MR Ferhan Mazher said the principal objective behind the distribution of
Eid gift packets was to forge interfaith peace and harmony among the dwellers of Pakistan,
belonging to various faiths and sects. The concerned head of the squalid slum urged that
ROD should help them by establishing a school for their young children there. ROD
promised the headman that they would start a school as soon as some extends helping hand in
this regard.

Interfaith Harmony Conference at

India under the aegis of URI

Ms. Ursula Asghar, coordinator Women Issues - Rays of Development, attended a 2 (two) days
conference in New Delhi - India. The title of the conference was “Peace through Reconciliation:
The Asian Experience”. The basic purpose of organizing this conference was to promote peace and
harmony in the Asian countries.

There were 24 delegates from Pakistan while the other participating countries were Nepal,
Bangladesh, Korea, Sri Lanka and India.

Let's pledge to make every day, a day of Peace

Let's all forget our past quarrels, hatred and conflicts and look forwards to the dawning of a new day
of love and peace, said Rev Fr Mukhtar Alam.

All of us, the followers of different faiths, believers of various gods, should co-exist peacefully in a
single society, Advocate Mustansar Bajwa defined Peace according to the Pakistani legislation.

Islam is the religion of love, unity, understanding and honesty, Islam doesn't enforce any thing,
Engineer Malik Nazir explained the teachings of Islam on account of peace and tolerance.

This event took place on Nov 24th, 2007 at Rehmat Park, University road, Sargodha, Pakistan to build
interfaith peace and harmony among the followers of different faiths
at grass root level by ROD in collaboration with URI on
‘International Day of Peace’ (IDP).

Mr Jawad Mazhar read and interpreted the message of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon into Urdu,
on this occasion. Participants of the study circle also expressed their opinion about interfaith
peace & harmony. They enjoyed drinks and snacks after the study circle.

Human rights violation case studies;

It is pertinent to mention here that ROD has probed into many human rights violation cases,
served justice to the victimized and tried the best to bring the culprits to the books.

* A youth allegedly sold for illegal human organ transplant.

* Business rival burnt away Rafiq Masih’s only source on income.

* A Mini Truck driver who was being forced to recant his faith.

* A teenager sodomized by countless men through out the night.

* Armed men looted poor man’s rice crop.

* A mob ransacked and desecrated Church at Gowindhi, Pakistan.

* A squalid slum of the poor people, demolished without prior warning.

* Armed demolish and occupy, an appallingly poor man’s house at Sargodha.

* Teenagers implicated into fake murder cases.

* A deprived man flogged over house dispute.

ROD working for cleaner, healthier and greener mother earth;

ROD conducted a Street Theater ‘Earth is on Fire!’ at Akbarabad, Faisalabad, to create

awareness among lay man about the importance of Clean and Pollution free Earth. Street
Theater is the most effective tool to convey messages of mass interest among the
unlettered people of our Society. Following are the photographic highlights of the Street

ROD, in the year 2007 planted more than 500 trees at different places in and outside
Sargodha for greening and to ensure the supply of fresh oxygen in the atmosphere.
