Introduction to Rays of Development Organization:
Vision
Rays of Development Organization (ROD) loves and respects every human being,
regardless of color, creed, sect, race, gender or dialect. It speaks up for those who are
helpless or can not speak for themselves.

A few years back a small group of teachers, students, advocates, journalists and like
minded people from all walks of life started to sit together, share and express their
apprehensions over the social injustices and discrimination due to the social unevenness,
gender, religion, sect, color, dialect, and race. Increasing dangers to the Mother earth
because of global warming and environmental pollution, lack of education and awareness
about various social issues especially health, child & women rights.
This group of devoted youth started to meet and ponder upon these social issues
frequently and tried to find solutions of these social problems. This committed youth
group gradually started to transform into a non-profit, non-governmental and non-
Political but yet non-registered, charitable organization and started to meet at regular
intervals to ponder upon the problems of the society.
Registration
In December 2006 this enthusiastic youth group who had started to call itself “Rays of
Development Organization” (ROD), registered itself with the same title under the
Societies Act 1860 with vide registration no. RD/SGD/243, based at Sargodha, Pakistan.
All the decisions are taken by the Governing body per rules and regulations of the
organization, as described in the memorandum of the organization. Governing body
consists of:
• Chairman, Mr Ferhan Mazher
• Vice Chairman, Ms Rukhsana Younas
• General Secretary, Ms Rosy Dewan
• Joint Secretary, Ms Shabana Khurshid
• Finance Manager, Ms Ghazala Khurshid
• Executive member 1, Mr Adnan Saeed

Note: - Most of the Governing body members are Women, who play decisive role in
Decision making
Volunteers of ROD
The objective of this bulletin is to bring forth the selfless endeavors of ROD in the above
mentioned fields;
Health;
Dengue Fever awareness seminar;
Rays of Development Organization (ROD) convened seminars about prevention and cure of
Dengue Fever at Chak (Village) # 79 NB & 87 NB, Sargodha , Pakistan. Both of these areas are
rural areas with majority of illiterate people. ROD did its best to provide hands on knowledge
about Dengue Fever.
ROD activists delivering useful information about prevention of Dengue Fever at Primary School
Chak (Village) No.79 NB, which is rural area of Sargodha, Pakistan.
ROD activists disseminating information about Dengue Fever at Government Boys Primary
School Chak (Village) # 87 NB which is a rural area Sargodha, Pakistan.
Walk against drugs;
Rays of Development Organization, (ROD) took out a walk for the prevention and reduction of
drugs in the community at Shaheen Chowk Sargodha, Pakistan.
Rose Nama Bismil (a Local daily) and ROD (Rays of Development Organization)
arranged an Anti-Drugs walk in Sargodha in which other organizations and people from
different walks of life participated. Special consideration was given to Youth.
Rays of Development Organization (ROD) observed Nov 24th, 2007 with the motto
“Education for all”, Students presented songs, poems and dramas illustrating the problems and every
day needs of them. Participants of this seminar were school dropouts and their parents, ROD prodded
them to get admission in the schools and resume their educational activities.

Rays of Development Organization (ROD) Sargodha has constituted and launched ‘Higher
Education Program’ (HEP) to raise necessary funds for the unlettered, uncared and
deprived children craving for academic excellence.
Happy, healthy and prosperous Teacher means happy, healthy and prosperous Country
(ROD surveys about the teachers on Teacher’s day on Oct 5th, 2007,)
Students Ms Mehwish and Ms Sehrish said that teacher’s day is the day to thank all the devoted
teachers who strive and make their soul, mind and body one for the better future of the coming
generation. Teachers must not overburden their students.

Khadijah Shah (Lecturer in English at FG Post Graduate College for Women . Wah Cantt), Prof Ms Marjorie
(Head of the English Department, FG Post Graduate College for Women, Wah Cantt), Prof Ms Faryal (Head of
the Economic Department, FG Post Graduate College for Women, Wah Cantt), Ms Mehwish Iqbal (Student,
Government Girls Inter College Block # 23, Sargodha), Prof Mrs Mehwish Malik (Professor of Economic, FG
Post Graduate College for Women, Wah Cantt), Prof Mrs Naheed Shah (Principal FG Post Graduate College for
Women, Wah Cantt), Mrs Shaheen Khan ((Lecturer in Pakistan Studies, FG Post Graduate College for Women,
Wah Cantt) and Ms Sehrish Iqbal (Student, Presentation
Convent High School, Sargodha).
The imprints of the stage drama “Who will protect the women rights?” left in the minds of the
indigenous people of the rural area were positive. And some of the male elders admitted after the
stage show that they had been discriminating with their
daughters, sisters etc. Furthermore they pledged to avoid this kind of discriminatory behavior
with female family members in the future. Highlights of this stage drama “Who will protect the

freedom and does not suffer from gender based violence, sexual abuse, physical, mental torture,
suppression of their desires and stifle of their voice..
For this reason ROD has convenved several study circles with followers of almost all the faiths
dewelling inPkaistan. Photographic highlights are provided below ;
Focus of this study circle is to orchestrate and enhance understanding among the followers of
various creeds. ROD (RAYS OF DEVELOPMENT) organization arranged a study circle with
the co-operation of Dr. Shahida and prosperity planners’ organization in which the topic of study
circle was love and prayer. During the discussion Mrs. Sheerin told that we could make our lives
easy if we are the true follower of our respective religions. Mr. Nadeem Samuel explained about
prayers and love of GOD through Christianity. All the participants appreciated the work of ROD
(RAYS OF DEVELOPMENT) of its very sensitive issue of religious harmony.
Rays of Development arranged a seminar on religious harmony at Al-Maida Hotel in
December. Chief guests were Mr. Martin and Mrs. Jane. Participant of different religions participated
and discussed about religious harmony in the society. Dr.Farkhanda told that religious harmony is
need of the time. Sister Naseem George told the History and the Objectives of URI (UNITED
RELIGIOUS INITIATIVE).

At the end chairman ROD (RAYS OF DEVELOPMENT) Mr. Ferhan Mazher thanked the participants
and lunch was served to the participants.
At the joyous, happy and auspicious occasion of Christmas and Muslim Eid-ul-Ezha, Rays of
Development (CC URI) (ROD CC) Sargodha, held an elegant and colorful Children program at
Christian Primary School, Chak (Village) # 79 NB Sargodha, Pakistan on Dec 23rd. During the
program Children of the school presented tabloos, Songs and quiz competition about the events of
Christmas and Eid. Children conveyed the messages against Child labor and abuse and to forge
Interfaith Peace, Tolerance and Harmony among the followers of diverse faiths and sects dwelling in
Pakistan.
Chief Guest of the event was Pakistan Campus Crusade for Christ (PCCC), National Director Mr
Shahid Kamal. Addressing the gathering Kamal said that Pakistan is our home, and we, regardless of
our faith or sect should create unity in our line, co-exist peacefully and work for the prosperity and
development of the nation.

distributed Eid and Christmas gifts among the participants and students at the culmination of
the Eid-Christmas program.
On Friday Oct 12th, 2007 almost two days ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, Rays of Development Organization
(ROD) distributed Eid gifts among the appallingly poor inhabitants of a sordid slum consisting of
approximately 350 huts, situated on the outskirts of Sargodha city. Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the 1st
of Islamic month of Shawal after the conclusion of Islamic Holy Month of fasting, the Ramadan, to
commemorate the start of the descending of Holy Quraan. Eid is the day of triumph after 30 days of
fasting, exceeding joy and felicity. It is the day when children wear new colorful garments and get
their Eidi (Gifts/Money) from their elders. Poor are paid alms and the families exchange gifts
especially home made sweets and Pastas.
Chairman ROD MR Ferhan Mazher said the principal objective behind the distribution of
Eid gift packets was to forge interfaith peace and harmony among the dwellers of Pakistan,
belonging to various faiths and sects. The concerned head of the squalid slum urged that
ROD should help them by establishing a school for their young children there. ROD
promised the headman that they would start a school as soon as some extends helping hand in
this regard.
Peace Prayer ceremony on Sunday the May 20th, 2007 under the supervision of URI's head
in Pakistan Rev. Fr. James Channan. For World Peace by ROD (RAYS OF
DEVELOPMENT) Sargodha at Maghoo Memorial UP Church Chak # 79NB Sargodha.
Participants lit the candles to symbolize the peace.
Ms. Ursula Asghar, coordinator Women Issues - Rays of Development, attended a 2 (two) days
conference in New Delhi - India. The title of the conference was “Peace through Reconciliation:
The Asian Experience”. The basic purpose of organizing this conference was to promote peace and
harmony in the Asian countries.
There were 24 delegates from Pakistan while the other participating countries were Nepal,
Bangladesh, Korea, Sri Lanka and India.
All of us, the followers of different faiths, believers of various gods, should co-exist peacefully in a
single society, Advocate Mustansar Bajwa defined Peace according to the Pakistani legislation.
Islam is the religion of love, unity, understanding and honesty, Islam doesn't enforce any thing,
Engineer Malik Nazir explained the teachings of Islam on account of peace and tolerance.
This event took place on Nov 24th, 2007 at Rehmat Park, University road, Sargodha, Pakistan to build
interfaith peace and harmony among the followers of different faiths
at grass root level by ROD in collaboration with URI on
‘International Day of Peace’ (IDP).
Mr Jawad Mazhar read and interpreted the message of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon into Urdu,
on this occasion. Participants of the study circle also expressed their opinion about interfaith
peace & harmony. They enjoyed drinks and snacks after the study circle.

ROD, in the year 2007 planted more than 500 trees at different places in and outside
Sargodha for greening and to ensure the supply of fresh oxygen in the atmosphere.
