1. Introduction
Khulna Public College is a specialized autonomous institution directly administered and governed by the Ministry of Education, Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. Since its establishment in 1987, Khulna Public college is offering quality education in both secondary and higher secondary level. In its voyage to ensure a robust place in the academic arena especially in the teaching and learning of Computer Science in secondary and higher secondary level, Khulna Public College is a dedicated and well-reputed institution. Department of Computer Science, as a leading department of KPC, is offering quality computer education in secondary and higher secondary level according to the curriculum of NCTB and Ministry of Education, GOB. Besides of its academic activities, currently this department is also actively assisting the administration and management of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) related activities of Khulna Public College. Department of Computer Science, Khulna Public College is proud to have the best quality faculty members in comparison with other institutions of Khulna. The academic qualifications and professional activities of the faculty members have already proved their contribution in uplifting the overall status of KPC. 3. Functions of Department of Computer Science

The first and foremost task of Computer Science department is conducting theoretical lectures on Computer Science/Computer Education for secondary and higher and higher secondary level. Computer Science Department also conducts the practical classes of concerned classes. Computer Science Department administers and monitors the implementation of highly technical tasks related to computer, information and communication technology as assigned by the authority of Khulna Public College. Department of Computer Science assists the faculty members of all disciplines of Khulna Public College in any concern related to computer and information technology. For establishing e-Learning and IT-based Teaching, Department of Computer Science provides its best efforts. The official website is currently voluntarily managed, updated and administered by Department of Computer Science since its development in March 2010. If special and exclusive necessity arises, Department of Computer Science provides support to various administrative affairs including admission tests and other administrative tasks. Department of Computer Science, Khulna Public College maintains entire online communication with government offices and other agencies/personnel. Department of Computer Science also provides consultancy services to other organizations as forwarded by the authority of KPC.

4.3 Remarks on Current Infrastructure for Conducting Academic Activity

4.3.1 Faculty Strength

Department of Computer Science has required student teacher ratio for currently enrolled students. The current faculty strength comprising of four faculty members is sufficient enough for the time being.

4.3.2 Lab Infrastructure

There is a single Microcomputer Lab for Computer Science department. Consequently, only one class may be conducted at a single period. It is hereby recommended to have efficient contingency planning to cope with the continuing demands. The dimension of the Microcomputer lab is sufficient enough to conduct classes for the currently enrolled students. However the dimension may be insufficient at near future time since the demand and trend of registering computer science course is gradually increasing in higher secondary level. Related facility of the Laboratory including lighting, air-conditioning, sitting arrangement, power supply facility and other several facilities are not sufficient enough.

4.3.3. Hardware Infrastructure

Though the hardware infrastructure of the Microcomputer lab is better than any other institution of Khulna, it is subject to further enhancement. Since Khulna Public College is not any ordinary college rather a specialized institution, it is a demand of the time.

5. Recommendations and Future Plans

From the point of view of current infrastructure and emerging trends of teaching and learning process, department of computer science, Khulna Public College hereby recommends the followings.

Firstly, CS KPC is dedicated to ensure quality education emphasizing on practical education which would act the basement of computer literacy for all the students. For achieving this, it is a must to arrange sufficient hardware and related facility into the microcomputer lab. A detail concerned requirement along with its justification has been presented in next section. Secondly, Computer Science course is currently offered for classes nine through twelve. Besides those classes, fundamental computer literacy courses may be introduced for class six to eight in future (subject to ensuring proper infrastructure). This would undoubtedly flourish the specialty of Khulna Public College and make sense towards its dedication for making ideal citizens. Thirdly, internet connectivity has become an inseparable part for education. Sadly, there is no internet facility for the students. Since, the newly introduced modernized syllabus of computer science for higher secondary level greatly emphasizes on the concepts regarding internet, it is urgent to have internet connectivity for the use of the students into the microcomputer lab. Fourthly, use of information and communication technology has got tremendous dimension in quality teaching. Honorable faculty members of various departments are also interested to conduct lectures using multimedia facility. However, it is often interrupted because of unavailability of multimedia devices. It is hereby recommended to establish a separate multimedia classroom for the same. A detail concerned requirements along with its justification has been presented in section 5.2. Fifthly, various non-academic and management tasks assigned to Computer Science Department like management and administration of official website of KPC and several others forms extreme complexity to routine academic tasks of CSKPC. Since, those professional tasks requires extensive dedication to be completed accurately and successfully which is not likely to be possible for academicians, it is recommended to either completely outsource those tasks or have a separate professional wing for those mission-critical tasks.

Sixthly, Department of Computer Science has planning for establishing a museum with the age-old computers and related peripherals. The devices which are damaged may be placed into the museum which would help the students to get a flavor of the chronological development of Computer and related hardware. Besides, it is also being proposed to establish a reference library of software and books with would help everyone to acquire knowledge on computer science. Seventhly, there is no computer lab with internet facility for the academic members of all departments to grab necessary reference document for preparing better teaching materials. It is recommended to establish a new lab for only teachers with proper related facilities like printing, internet facility.

5.1 Regarding Procurement/Collection of Necessary Materials for Microcomputer Laboratory of Department Of Computer Science.
It is essential to urgently procure/collect the following equipments for smooth running of the academic activities of Department of Computer Science, Khulna Public College and thus uplifting quality education and effective understanding of the student. Sl. Item Quantity Remarks Since the number of students who intake computer science courses are increasing, in order to provide them with sufficient number of computers it is required to arrange new computers. Moreover 7 computers have run out of order within last few years which may not be repaired in cost-effective manner. Main board has been damaged for all the computers. These motherboards are obsolete Desktop Computer since last five/six years or more and not widely available in the market. With the change of motherboard technology processor, RAM and Hard-disk combination has also been changed. Consequently, replacing the motherboard with recent ones will also require the replacement of RAM and Processor which would incur mentionable amount. Noteworthy, it is not possible to repair the main-boards. Since, four monitors (Video Display Units) are still usable, only 06 monitors should be purchased and for the remaining computers existing monitors should be used. Since power failure causes extreme problem in conducting classes, it is essential to arrange alternate power supply facility. Without any alternate power 02 . IPS/Generator 02/01 source, conducting theory and lab classes using multimedia is suffering severely. Proposed establishment of Multimedia classroom would also suffer in terms of spontaneous uses without uninterrupted supply of electricity. For ensuring internet facility into the lab (as per requirements of the newly adopted syllabus of Computer Science for Intermediate level), it is necessary to Internet 04 . Connectivity through WiFi 01 incorporate internet connectivity. Establishing a WiFi Zone may be the most cost effective solution. In order to assist the ICT and e-governance awareness building scheme of the government, it is necessary to provide internet facility to the students. A 05 . Chair 25 number of chairs have been damaged and consequently, for accommodating students into the lab arranging new seats for students is essential. It is a must to have proper cooling system at the surrounding environment of the computers. For a lab equipped with a number of computers and projectors (each of which exhausts extreme heat) thus greatly requires cooling system. 06 . Air Conditioner Since dusts deteriorate the life time of computers, the 02 windows of the lab are kept closed for keeping the lab dust-free. But, this results into increase of room temperature and also doesnt let the students get fresh air during classes and labs. Consequently, for ensuring maximum lifetime of the computers and other hardware of the lab, it is required to arrange and install Air Conditioners.

5.2 Regarding Procurement/Collection of Necessary Materials for Establishing Multimedia Classroom.

As mentioned into section 5, it is necessary to establish a separate multimedia classroom for conducting classes through multimedia facility. Since, most of the classes of Department of Computer Science are more subject to be conducted through multimedia and other departments of KPC are also eager to adopt multimedia based teaching, it is necessary to establish the multimedia laboratory in such a place which would be suitable for the entire college. In consideration of such points, the room conjoint to the CSEKPC may be the best one. Moreover, if the multimedia classroom is sited beside CSKPC, then installing a single power generator would serve both CSEKPC and the multimedia classroom. Above all, if the management is assigned on CSKPC, having the room closer to CSKPC would make the supervision easier. It is essential to urgently procure/collect the following equipments for establishing a multimedia classroom. Sl. 7. Conclusions
Department of Computer Science is dedicated to provide its best for ensuring quality education to the students of KPC. In empowering Information and Communication Technology assisted Teaching-Learning, the plans and efforts of KPC is being gradually strengthened and potentially explored. Moreover CSKPC also possesses a constant effort in assisting the administration of KPC for incorporating e-governance. Consequently, with the demand of time, the requirement and expectations of CSKPC towards KPC is increasing and vice versa.
