NEW YEAR, NEW GOALS!

ASCA STANDARD: A.B: Students will complete school with the academic preparation essential to choose from a wide range of substantial post-secondary options, including college. ASCA COMPETENCY: A.B.2: Plan to Achieve Goals ASCA INDICATOR: A.B.2.4: Apply knowledge of aptitudes and interests to goal setting NOSCA Component #2: Academic planning for college and career readiness DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY: Students will discuss what starting a new year means to them, and learn how resolutions are like goals. We will discuss how resolutions can be found both at home and at school. The students assess where they are academically and personally, and make resolutions to improve for the new year, specifically regarding their reading and math level. The students will also list a resolution they want to achieve in their personal life as well. Students will have to list specific steps they will take to achieve this resolution. DATA ASSESSMENT: PROCESS DATA: This lesson will be applied to 4 groups consisting of three mandated special education students ranging from second to fourth grade. PERCEPTION DATA: The pre/post lesson question will be, Can you identify a resolution? RESULTA DATA: The worksheets filled by the students will be kept in the School counselors office, and will be assessed at the beginning of every Month.

TEST TAKING TIPS

ASCA STANDARD A: Students will acquire the attitudes, knowledge and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span. ASCA COMPETENCY: A:A1 Improve Academic Self-Concept ASCA INDICATOR: A:A1:5: Identify attitudes and behaviors that lead to successful learning. NOSCA COMPETENCY #2: Academic planning for college and career readiness DESCRIPTION: using the Test Taking Tips for Elementary Students lesson plan, students will fill out a survey listing their personal habits, and the site supervisor will present correlating facts to the questions found on the survey and how they relate to taking tests. DATA ASSESSMENT PROCESS DATA: This lesson will be administered to the mandated students of the school counselor, along with three different classes two 12:1;1 with twelve students each, and one fifth grade class with twenty three students. The two 12:1;1 classes are full of ELL students, which is how we are attempting to close the achievement gap. PERCEPTION DATA: The pre-post questions will be found on the survey, an example question is: How many hours do you usually sleep at night?____ Do you think that is enough rest? Why? RESULTS DATA: Our goal is to close the achievement gap, which means improving test scores for ELL students. How to be successful in school!!!

ASCA COMPETENCY: A:A3: Achieve school success ASCA INDICATOR: A:A3.4: Demonstrate dependability, productivity, and initiative NOSCA #2: Academic Planning for college and career readiness DESCRIPTION: Using the Study Skills and Test taking strategies power point, the students will learn about organization, ways to prepare for test taking, benefits of sleeping and eating, relaxation, test taking strategies, time management, process of elimination, and identifying correct answers. The power point is a brief overview of these topics, and further elaboration will continue in future sessions. DATA ASSESSMENT: PROCESS DATA: This lesson will be administered to the mandated students of the school counselor, along with three different classes two 12:1;1 with twelve students each, and one fifth grade class with twenty three students. The two 12:1;1 classes are full of ELL students, which is how we are attempting to close the achievement gap. PERCEPTION DATA: The power-point opens up with a list of true/false questions. Example:I should worry about how I did on the test after I am done. The same list of questions will be distributed after the series of test taking skills and strategies are completed. RESULTS DATA: Our goal is to close the achievement gap, which means improving test scores for ELL students.
