Company Presentation

About The Company

The seed of BcnInnova was sown in 2004 with the detection of an interesting market niche in the development of medical devices for ophthalmology diagnostic support, which covers the current technological gap that prevails in the sector. The project began with the development of a revolutionary system of measurement for strabismus by Dr. Joan Prat, current head of the ophthalmology department at Hospital "Sant Joan de Du, European reference as oculoplastic specialist and founder of the Catalan Society of Ophthalmology. With the support of the hospital, an international patent for the system of measurement was registered, and the pilot project for GazeLab product -DIGMO- was developed. BcnInnova was born as a company in February 2008. The first action taken was the signing of a worldwide and eternal license for the rights to exploit the patented system of measurement. Since then, we have been working hard on product development, exploring and implementing new diagnostic functionalities for various ocular motility disorders (nystagmus, pupillary dynamics, eyelid dynamic, among others). All of it to provide ophthalmologists with a tool to facilitate their daily work.

Business lines
At present, BcnInnova is working the following business lines: Adaptation of the measurement system for the detection of ocular motility disorders, and development of software modules that provide new features for diagnosis. Development, marketing and improvement of GazeLab device, which applies the new measurement system mentioned above. R & D projects that apply artificial vision technology for the development of solutions within the medical sector. The aim is to complement and improve the current technology used to support the following aspects of medicine: Diagnostic support Measurement of biological quantities Analysis of samples Exploration of pathologies.

Product description
GazeLab is a videoculograph developed to help diagnosis of ocular motility distortions. It integrates the latest in artificial vision technology for external ocular image analysis, and a revolutionary measuring system that makes possible better measurements accuracy than current diagnostic methods. The device allows objective measurements on the patient's visual field, exploring each eye's muscle function separately. The end result is a map of ocular motility which indicates, in a coordinates system, the position of each eye for the points of pattern explored. It also documents the degree of deviation from the pattern and the comparison of both eyes. This provides valuable information for the diagnosis, surgical planning, and monitoring of ocular motility disorders.

Product advantages
Effective - increases accuracy and diagnostic measurement capability. As a consequence, improves the surgical success rate and facilitates post-surgery monitoring. Flexible - allows to explore many of the eye positions, those the specialist deemed necessary Documented - generate documentary evidence that may be appended to the clinical history.

Pre-programmable - with scan patterns defined by the specialist.

Easy to use - provides the possibility to delegate scanning tasks to physician assistants. Binocular - allows simultaneous analysis of both eyes and compared with the pattern.

Versatile - allows the implementation of other features* related to ocular motility.

* Currently, the device includes applications for the measurement of Strabismus, Nystagmus and Pupillary Dynamics. Application for measuring Eyelid Dynamics is under consideration .

New on the market. Only involved in 2 medical studies in 2011.

Note: There are other devices on the market that measure ocular motility functions separately. There is currently no medical device, apart from GazeLab, which can support the diagnosis in the three areas mentioned above.
