MX Electric Actuator Specification - OA Relay Option

General The MX electric actuator consist of a 3-phase motor, worm gear reduction, absolute position encoder, electronic torque measurement, reversing motor contactor, micro-processor control, protection and monitoring package, manual override handwheel, valve interface bushing, 32 character LCD, position indication LEDs and local control switches. Actuators are offered in accordance with Wiring Diagram WD-MXa-01001-0000 Weatherproof/submersion to IEC529 code IP68 (15m - 96hours), NEMA 3, 4, 4X & 6. Temperature rating: -30 to +65 C C 440 Volts 3 Phase 50 Hertz The actuator is driven by a high torque, low inertia electric motor rated S2, 15 minute duty for On/Off applications as All motors are totally enclosed, non-ventilated with class F insulation and a thermistor embedded within to prevent damage due to overload. Valve position is measured by an 18-bit optical absolute position encoder, with redundant position sensing circuits designed for Built-In-Self-Test (BIST), permitting up to 50% fault tolerance. Positions are stored in permanent, non-volatile memory. The encoder measures valve position during motor or handwheel operation and with or without 3-phase power present: there is no requirement for battery backup. Torque is measured electronically and is adjustable from 40% to 100% of rated output torque, in 1% increments: the motor will be de-energised if the torque limit is exceeded. During initial valve unseating a boost function prevents the actuator tripping on torque and a 'Jammed Valve' protection feature, with automatic retry sequence, is incorporated to de-energise the motor if no valve movement is detected. The Control Module incorporates the following features and functions::- Power and logic circuit boards. :- Control transformer with protection fuses. :- Reversing contactor (mechanically interlocked to prevent simultaneous energising of the Open and Close coils). :- Auto-reversal delay to inhibit high current surges caused by rapid motor :- Phase correction circuit that automatically ensures correct motor rotation. :- Lost phase detection - operation disabled to prevent damage to the motor. :- LED indicators and 32-character LCD. :- Local control switches. :- Removable through the use of plug-in connectors. :- Flame resistant internal wiring rated to 105C and UL/CSA listed. The Local Controls feature magnetically coupled, non-penetrating Open/Close (spring-return to centre) and Local/Stop/Remote selector (padlockable in all three positions using a 6 mm hasp - not supplied) switches. The Open & Close switches may be configured for either push-to-run (inching) or maintained control. All calibration and settings are performed using the Local Controls without the need for any special setting tools. Entry into the Settings menu is password protected to prevent unauthorised changes. The Control Panel includes the following::- 32-character graphical LCD which displays valve position as '% Open' and the current actuator status. Configurable for ten languages: English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Mandarin, Russian, Bahasa Indonesia and Katakana. :- Red/Green LEDs for Open/Close indication (reversible). :- Yellow LED - Monitor Relay status, actuator available for remote operation, :- Blue LED - Bluetooth* enabled and link established *Optional feature The actuator may be controlled remotely by two, three or four wires::- Four-Wire Control valve can be opened, closed or stopped. :- Three-Wire Maintained valve can be opened or closed but not stopped in mid-travel. :- Three-Wire Inching valve can be opened, closed and stopped in mid-travel. :- Two-Wire Control valve can be opened or closed but not stopped in midTerminals are provided for hardwired ESD (Emergency Shutdown) and inhibit movement commands in the open or close directions. Power for remote signals may be derived internally from the actuator or provided externally by the user. Standard input signal supply is 24VDC maximum loading of 5W. Optional 110Vac/15VA supply available.

Remote Indication Four (4) latched relays are provided for remote indication of valve position and status. Contacts are rated at 5A, 250Vac/30Vdc and each relay can be either Normally Open (N/O) or Normally Closed (N/C). The relays can be configured for any of the following functions:Closing Opening Stopped Valve Moving Local Selected Motor Overtemp Overtorque Monitor Relay Manual Override Valve Jammed Close Torque Switch Open Torque Switch Local Stop/Off Lost phase ESD signal Close inhibit Open inhibit Analog IP Lost Remote selected Limigard Active Hardware failure CSE Controlled Network Controlled Close Open Mid-travel

The Monitor Relay has 1 N/O & 1 N/C contact and de-energises when the actuator is not available for remote operation. Contacts are rated at 5A 250Vac/30Vdc. The monitor relay can be disabled. The APT is a non-contacting, internally powered, electrically isolated valve position transmitter providing an output signal of 4-20 mA, proportional to valve position.

Limigard Circuit MX actuators include LimiGard circuit protection. LimiGard consists of dedicated circuitry that continually monitors the motor contactor, control relays, internal logic circuits and external command signals. When the recommended wiring connections are made, it virtually eliminates unexpected erroneous actuation caused by internal electronic failures or erratic external command signals. Additionally, in the event of malfunction, LimiGard supervises the actuator response, detects the source of the failure and signals an alarm on the actuator's diagnostics screens and by de-energizing the monitor relay. Valve operation is inhibited until the failure is corrected - referred to as Fail No Action. Diagnostics Terminals Diagnostics facilities include motor data, hardware status & identification, torque profile and operations log. All customer connections are located in a separately double-sealed terminal compartment. The 3 power and 54 control terminals are screw-type and contained on a terminal block which includes terminal identification. Three (3) threaded conduit entries are provided tapped 1 x 1 and 2 x 1 NPT A declutchable handwheel is provided for manual operation. Handwheel does not rotate during electric operation. Declutch lever automatically disengages when motor is energised and can be padlocked in the motor position. All gears are immersed in an oil-bath lubricated with a synthetic oil designed specifically for extreme pressure worm gear transmission service. The actuators are treated with a high solids epoxy E-coat primer and then finished with a polyurethane powder coating. This coating system is suitable for an ASTM B117 salt spray test of 1500 hours. All external fasteners are made of high strength carbon steel, zinc plated, chromate hexavalent coated and then top coated with a high strength, high endurance polymer. All MX actuator designs have been tested to demonstrate compatibility with the following European directives and are marked with the CE label: 89/392/EC :Machinery 98/37/EC :Electromagnetic Compatibility 73/23/EC & :Low Voltage 93/68/EC 2003/10/EC :Airborne Noise
