STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

It is the nature of purpose that distinguish man from the beast, where purpose gets generated from instinct. For human beings the word purpose reflects the philosophy of life which should be unbiased by its characteristics and untarnished by stern materialism. When I was born I was not at all an exception to the laws of nature. The same fundamental questions were without answer and same beautiful feelings were without expression. Who am I? Where from I did come? What is the meaning of life and where it differs from inanimate objects in its very basic reality? When I have been growing up my maturity looms on these primitive question keeping my sprit underlying but undisturbed. I have passed my 10th level and got to know about Microbiology that was supposed to be dealing with the know-how occurring in the living beings and its possible origin. I got above 60% marks in Biology in 12th level, and it was conscious career decision drawn deliberately to take Microbiology as my graduate major, with Physics and Chemistry as general subjects under the University of Calcutta, India. 2. Within two years of admission I got the opportunity to attend the first state level workshop & seminar on Microbiology (approved by the board of undergraduate studies- Microbiology; University of Calcutta). In this seminar distinguished luminous scientist discussed aspect of Microbiology & Biotechnology on various contexts. I draw all my inspiration from the eminent research personalities present there. Since my early days, the quest to find out new things always fascinated me. With the passage of time it became my soul ambition to do research work. There were a plenty of microbial techniques in our laboratory course. I used to take part on various surveys on microbial environment organized by our undergraduate department. I also took parting seminar on impact of research on microbial world on the economy of developing countries, organized by

Lady Brabourne College, Calcutta. After attending this seminar, I was keen to know about the application of my undergraduate study on our day-to-day life. In my undergraduate study, I went through microbial genetics, molecular biology and biotechnology. I found it to be very interesting and it became my favourite area of interest. In search of higher knowledge, I came to Bangalore University, India and pursue my M. Sc degree in Biotechnology. Here I came to know about Dr. V.S.S. R. Prakash, who was also my principal. I have learnt a lot from him. But my quench of acquiring knowledge did not stop. I took a one-month project on Cancer under Dr. Utpal Sanyal in Chittoranjan Cancer Research Institute, a pioneer institute in India in Cancer Research, during my M. Sc degree. My work was on the development of anti cancer drug. I made an animal model, bearing cancer of murin origin. Then I administered the anti cancer drug and checked the toxicity, and also the drug distribution by HPLC. I worked with almost sincerity, diligence, devotion and passion. My work was highly appreciated by the co-workers and by my guide as well. 3. If my sole motivation of life is concerned, my ambition in life is not just to be outstanding research scientist but also be known as a good human being who cares for the society he belongs to. So I took my pleasure in engaging myself in various social work like blood donation, helping needy people, raising funds for tsunami victims, making people aware of the environmental pollution etc. These are all my trifle efforts for a better world for the entire human race, what we are all trying to achieve after all, where there will be science to help humanity to triumph over all the evil forces. 4. Aberdeen as the oil capital of Europe is one of the advanced states of U.K in science and technology. University of Aberdeen has major role or contribution towards development by imparting requisite knowledge to the students who in turn transfers/transferred it to the development of the state/society. has wide range of courses in different branches of science, technology and arts to support the needs of students to build a carrier. 5. Very modestly I want to conclude with a gentle touch of my confidence declaring categorically that if given an opportunity to pursue my dreams in your esteemed university, I would honor myself by contributing to it with my motivation and my institution.
