CAMPAIGN REPORT ON ORAL HEALTH AND SANITATION Teeth are the most important asset to all of us.

We will feel proud if others praise our teeth beauty. Therefore, we must always maintain the clean and healthiness of our teeth so that we do not have any dental problems. In conjuction with that, a campaign was held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Kob, Karangan, Kedah in February . The purpose of this campaign was to bring the awareness to the students about the importance of dental hygiene and health in early childhood. It was also to educate them on how to take care and eat appropriate nutrition to prevent tooth decay in children. On 5 th February, it had been the opening ceremony for the Dental Health Campaign. During the inauguration, a dentist, Dr. Asmah Laily was invited to give talks on dental care. She also explained about the impact if we do not take care of our teeth. Subsequently, on 6 th February, a Poster Drawing Competition was held related to dental health. The competition was attended by the Level Two pupil. For Year Six, the competition was won by Nur Farha bt Jasman, Year Five was won by Mohammed Hazim b. Hisham and Year Four was won by Siti Aishah bt Omar. Then, the Health Quiz was carried out on 8 th February. This activity was opened to all students and the questions provided were related on how to keep the teeth clean. This activity received encouraging response because of the prizes offered were accordingly with the classes. During the second week of February, from 12 until 15 th February there was an Essay Writing Competition. This competition was opened to students who were interested and talented in writing. They were required to find information about related matters through various sources either from the Internet or reference books. The competition was won by a Standard Six pupil, Alia Adlina bt Azhar. On 20 th February, it had been an exhibitions related to dentistry. The exhibition was organized by the Dental Corporation. Various equipment such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental equipment to treat and associated pictures are displayed. This exhibition had attracted the attention of all school staff. Apart from the exhibition, a number of dental nurses had shown the correct way of brushing our teeth. During this campaign , all students were required to bring their own toothbrush to school. Besides, a Scrapbook Competition was held. Pupils were required to create a group scrapbook set by the titles. The competition attracted students from Year Five and Year Six. The winner would receive hampers, toothbrushes and toothpaste. The winner in this competition was Princess Glory Group from Year Six pupils.

Among all the activities, the most interesting activity was the Beautiful Teeth Competition. This competition was to find students who have the most beautiful teeth in each class. The competition was judged by the dental nurses. In conjunction with this campaign , some dental nurses had been placed in this school for six months to ensure that all pupils get equal dental treatment. There were several funny moment when some students had fled from school and then went back to their homes in fear to see the equipment used by the nurses. There were also cries especially Year One pupils who were afraid that their teeth had been extracted. It was hoped through this campaign, all students can improve their oral hygiene and maintain the cleanliness and healthiness of their teeth correctly. Hopefully, serious dental caries in children can be reduced through the awareness of the importance of healthy teeth and no more take for granted about the dental care.
