Routing is a procedure, which will able to communicate to different networks in two different geographical locations. There are two types of routers : 1. 2. Hardware Router Software Router
IP Routing: When router is in communication from one network to another network, it will choose the best destination path from source to destination. That process is called as IP ROUTING. The process will continue until the data pockets reach the nearest default gateway of computer in destination.
PRACTICAL: Pre Requisites: 1. 2. 3. 4. Stage 1: Open Windows Server 2008 in VM ware Open Windows 7 in VM ware Base machine XP Assign the fallowing series of IP addresses in different operating systems : : : : : : : : : : 10.0.0.100 255.0.0.0 11.0.0.100 255.0.0.0 10.0.0.255 255.0.0.0 10.0.0.100 11.0.0.110 255.0.0.0 11.0.0.100 It will give reply Pinging It will not give reply Not pinging It will not give reply Not pinging Base Machine with XP Operating System In VM Ware open Win 2008 server In VM Ware open Win 7 Operating System 2 NIC Cards in Win Server 2008 with Bridged Network

* Note : Two different range of IP networks will not share resources without using Router. Run ncpa.cpl (in server ) it shows Network connecting window go to first NIC provide one IP of 10 series Example : 10.0.0.100 Go to base PC XP go to network places give IP and Subnet mask and default gateway Note : Here default gateway is the server 1st NIC IP address i.e. 10.0.0.100
Example :
IP : 11.0.0.110 Subnet : 255.0.0.0 Default gateway : 11.0.0.100 ( It is the server 2nd NIC IP ) Check the pinging If not pinging check the firewall status weather it is on or off. If it is in on mode just turn of the firewall.
For example
* Getting Reply is fine or else check the physical connection, firewalls and IP series. Go to server start server manager add roles select Network Policy and Access Services( NPAC) next next - select routing and remote access services next install Go to XP and try to ping with 11 series it shows the message called Request Timed out Go to Server Start Administrative tools select routing and remote access Select admin account - right click on red market - select configure and enable next custom configuration next LAN Routing next finish. It shows the dialogue box called Start Service Just click on the Start Service. Click finish, it enables the admin account i.e., it shows green mark Expand the account ( + Symbol) Go to base machine and try to ping : XP XP Win 7 Win 7 2nd NIC of server ( 11 series ) Win 7 ( 11 series ) server 1st NIC XP ( 10 series )
Try to take remote desktop from : XP XP Win 7 Win 7 to to to to 2nd NIC of server ( 11 series ) Win 7 ( 11 series ) server 1st NIC XP ( 10 series )
