Smt.Sarlaben Vasantbhai Malaviya School of Management

INTRODUCATION
The Indian machine tool industry comprises of large, medium and small scale sector. The Machine Tool Industry constitutes the backbone of the industrial sector and is vital for the growth of the capital goods industry. The quality and cost of engineering products depends on the quality of mother machine tools and their automation level. Being an integral sector, growth of the machine tool industry has an immense bearing on the entire economy, especially India's manufacturing industry and is even more crucial for development of the country's strategic segments such as Defense, railways, space, and atomic energy. In India as well, indigenous machine tools have the highest impact on capital output ratios. Machine tool consumption of Rs. 1,000 Crore truly supports the advancement of the country's engineering sector, output of which is estimated to be worth over Rs. 1,50,000 Crore. Machine tool industry in India comprises about 450 manufacturers with 150 units in the organized sector. Almost 70 per cent of production in India is contributed by ten major companies of this industry. And over threequarters of total machine tool production in the country comes out of ISO certified companies. Many machine tool manufacturers have also obtained CE Marking certification, in keeping with requirements of the European markets. The industry has an installed capacity of over Rs. 10,000 million and employs a workforce totaling 65,000 skilled and unskilled personnel. Particularly if speaking about CNC machines tool industry again Bangalore based company ACE Designer is seating at the top, which almost grab 50% of the market share of CNC machines tool industry. In terms of production normal production is 135 machines per month.

HISTORY OF CNC

Although wood-working lathes have been in use since Biblical times, the first practical metalworking lathe was invented in 1800 by Henry Maud slay. It was simply a machine tool that held the piece of material being worked, or work piece, in a clamp, or spindle, and rotated it so a cutting tool could machine the surface to the desired contour. The cutting tool was manipulated by the operator through the use of cranks and hand wheels. Dimensional accuracy was controlled by the operator who observed the graduated dials on the hand wheels and moved the cutting tool the appropriate amount. Each part that was produced required the operator to repeat the movements in the same sequence and to the same dimensions. The first milling machine was operated in much the same manner, except the cutting tool was placed in the rotating spindle. The work piece was mounted to the machine bed or worktable and was moved about under the cutting tool, again through the use of hand wheels, to machine the work piece contour. This early milling machine was invented by Eli Whitney in 1818. The motions that are used in machine tools are called "axis," and are referred to as "X" (usually left to right), "Y" (usually front to back), and "Z" (up and down). The work-table may also be rotated in the horizontal or vertical plane, creating a fourth axis of motion. Some machines have a fifth axis, which allows the spindle to pivot at an angle. One of the problems with these early machines was that they required the operator to manipulate the hand wheels to make each part. Besides being monotonous and physically exhausting work, the ability of the operator to make identical parts was limited. Slight differences in operation resulted in variation of the axis dimensions, which, in turn, created poorly fitting or
Smt.Sarlaben Vasantbhai Malaviya School of Management 11

unusable parts. Scrap levels for the operations were high, wasting raw materials and labor time. As production quantities increased, the numbers of usable parts produced per operator per day were no longer economical. What was needed was a means to operate the motions of the

machine automatically. Early attempts to "automate" these operations used a series of cams that moved the tools or worktable through linkages. As the cam rotated, a link followed the surface of the cam face, moving the cutting tool or the work piece through a series of motions. The cam face was shaped to control the amount of linkage movement, and the rate at which the cam turned controlled the federate of the tool. These early machines were difficult to set correctly, but once set, they offered excellent repeatability for their day. Some have survived to this day and are called "Swiss" machines, a name synonymous with precision machining.

VISION OF THE INDUSTRY

Adapt new manufacturing techniques such as TQM, TPM, etc. Major focus on technology, design and product development. Achieve significant turnover. Invest in capacity expansion to meet enhanced demand from Indian and overseas markets. Manufacturers supply machines regularly to all major Indian companies with US, Japanese & European collaborations.

CNC TECHNOLOGY : PRESENT, FUTURE & CHALLENGES AHEAD:

The evolution of machine tool CNC technology responds to the driving force of the society, which constantly requires more quality goods in larger quantity & at lower price. Lower Price means fewer efforts, less human involvement. When the social incentive is missing & people do not want a product or can not afford to pay for it, no technical progression is possible. It can readily be observed through the centuries how CNC technology developed in the shadow of other industries like defense industries, automobile industries

FUTURE TALK
The future trend in CNC machine tool technology is the reduction of the direct human involvement in production itself. The bond between man and machine is loosened. Man not the salve of the machine. Here man and machine will still need each other, but their work will be timely disconnected in such a manner that both will be working in their own manner.

COMPETITION ATTACK
The Indian machine tool industry manufactures almost the complete range of metal cutting and metal forming machine tools. Customized in
Smt.Sarlaben Vasantbhai Malaviya School of Management 15

nature, the products from Indian basket comprise conventional machine tools as well as CNC machines. There are other variants offered by Indian manufacturer too, including special purpose machines, robotics, handling system and TPM friendly machines. With the growing demand, today Indian machine tool builders are exporting machines to the developed countries like Japan, Germany, US, Australia, France, Netherlands, East Asian and host of others. And this is what the industry is hoping to leverage so as to post and optimistic export turnover in the next few years. In the coming days, the growth of China in CNC manufacturing will surpass every nation with manufacturing growth in India a close second.

INTRODUCTION

Every industrial organization must do two things; one is to produce something; the other is to market what is produced. In manufacturing terms: Production is discharge of a function which has some utility In jyoti there are three units in company located at metoda G I D C,Rajkot in unit no 3 is a place where major activity take place for production process in organization in this process are like casting ,painting ,assembling which are major activity of production are taken place in this unit and there is also foundry, sheet metal shop and paint shop are also there in this unit. In paint department there are also in powder painting is there because in hand painting there were some king of gap is there so it is good to use powder painting. Mr. Sahdevsinhjadeja is the production manager of jyoti. He has also good experience with CNC machines and he is also partner of the company.

PLANT LOCATION & LAYOUT

Plant Location
Plant location is the process of determining a geographical site for a firms operations achieving maximum operating economy and effectiveness. Location ultimately has the power to make or break a companys business strategy. Thus every entrepreneur of a business unit should give
Smt.Sarlaben Vasantbhai Malaviya School of Management 46

due consideration to the suitable location of the enterprise. Optimum location point is expected to give the lowest unit cost of production as well as of distribution and hence it can be most profitable for the business. An entrepreneur must choose an ideal location at the time of launching the enterprise. JYOTI is located at G-506, Lodhika GIDC, Vill.:-Metoda Kalawad Road, Rajkot. Because of nearness to highway, easy access for employees, exemption from octopi due to location in an industrial area they get benefit of government subsidies. This is an industrial estate and is quite suitable for the production process of Jyoti and this location has proved profitable it is having a large area for operation including two large building and a well-established administrative office.

Plant Layout
Plant layout involves decisions about the physical arrangement of economic activity centers within a plant. Plant layout is the overall arrangement of the production process. The room, stock room, tool room, etc. as it an encompasses production and service facilities and provides for the most effective utilization of resources contributing to the process. According to Prof. F.F.G. Moore, A good layout is one which all owns material rapidly and directly for processing. This reduces transport handling and other costs per unit space requirements are minimized and it reduces idle machine and idle man time. It is a master blue print for coordinating all operations performed inside the factory. At jyoti there is a very well arrangement of work station, customer service areas, material storage areas, tool servicing areas, rest room, lunch room, training hall, offices, store room etc.

CONSUMER PREFRENCE

Consumer Preferences

As with much research on consumers, and indeed social science in general, there is a lot of terminological confusion and sometimes a lack of rigour. This is acknowledged within the academic literature and steps are being taken to rectify this situation. The following definition of key terms is provided in the hope of clarifying the following discussion of the litterateur.
Meaning of consumer preference

This is used primarily to mean an option that has the greatest anticipated Value among a number of options. This is an economic definition and does not tap into wishes or dreams (for e.g. that safe drinking water was free, that there should be world peace) but for all practical purposes is an appropriate definition. Preference and acceptance can in certain circumstances mean the same thing but it is useful to keep the distinction in mind with preference tending to indicate choices among neutral or more valued options with acceptance indicating a willingness to tolerate the status. Consumer preference means consumer prefer any goods by identifying quality ,price or various things consume preference also includes consumer satisfaction and consumer acceptance and consumer concern and awareness definition of all these are as follow.

Smt.Sarlaben Vasantbhai Malaviya School of Management

96

Consumer Satisfaction

Consumer satisfaction and acceptance are often considered in the literature to be closely linked yet these are distinct concepts. Satisfaction is the fulfilmentand gratification of the need for a stated good or service.

Consumer Acceptance
Acceptance describes consumer willingness to receive and/or to tolerate. For example, a customer might accept the occurrence of a certain number of yearly supply interruptions given a certain price. Consumer acceptance and satisfaction are related, as the first is a precursor of the latter. However, despite the fact that satisfaction and acceptance can be thought of as lying one continuum, acceptance does not automatically lead to satisfaction. Weighing needs or preferences against provided product or service attributes results in the balance of satisfaction pointing in a negative or positive direction, depending on whether interests are conflicting or corresponding. This determines the way in which people evaluate companies or utilities performance. Only when a consumers needs for a stated good or service are met, i.e. when the service provided corresponds with their preferences, will they feel satisfied. Customer satisfaction can be enhanced when their needs are met (in terms of both quality and quantity) and accord with their preferences. At the other end of this dimension, where the service provided conflicts with the prevailing needs or preferences, customers may experience feelings of dissatisfaction.
Consumer Concerns

These are expressed anxieties or unease over an object broadly defined (e.g.discoloured tap water or a proposal to change the water pricing structure.
Consumer Expectations

Smt.Sarlaben Vasantbhai Malaviya School of Management

97

The distinction between expectations and preferences is often blurred though the concepts are distinct. Expectation is used in three slightly differing senses in the literature. One is the act of expecting or looking forward a belief about what will happen in the future. Most consumers in Europe expect that clean and safe water will come out of their taps the next time they turn them on. A related but more technical use of expectation is to denote a more formal estimation of the probability of an event occurring. These first two definitions can be distinguished from preference in that preferences refer to some desired state and, as in the above definition, imply that more than one state is possible and that there are some options. Unfortunately expectation is also used more loosely to mean a requirement or demand for something and in this sense is a kind of strong preference. When reading the literature it is important to ascertain which definition is being used.
Consumer Awareness

Consumer awareness is the level of knowledge about, in this case, water which includes the water company, regulatory framework, supply system and service, or the water itself. In most research the adequacy or otherwise of this awareness is anchored against the service provider or regulators perspective on the supply. Where consumer awareness does not equate with this industry perspective this is often termed a consumer misperception. However, it should be noted that there is a distinction between holding factually incorrect knowledge about the supply system (for e.g. that the water comes from a river when it comes from an aquifer) and differing perspectives on, say, the safety of the supply. In the latter example assessments of safety are judgments made under uncertainty about the future and thus have a legitimately contestable truth status. What is acceptably safe is a matter of judgment (potentially based on good science but a judgment under uncertainty nonetheless) and may or may not be a misperception

TESTING OF HYPOTHESIS
Meaning of hypothesis

A hypothesis is a statement about population parameter. Hypothesis testing/significance. Testing is procedure that helps us to decide whether the

Smt.Sarlaben Vasantbhai Malaviya School of Management 112

hypnotized population parameter value is accepted or rejected by making use of the information obtained from the sample. Null hypothesis: A statistical hypothesis which is stated for the purpose of possible acceptance is called null hypothesis. It is usually denoted by H0, the null hypothesis may be expressed symbolically. Null hypothesis is the hypothesis which is tested for possible rejection under the assumption that it is true. Alternative hypothesis: Any hypothesis which is complementary to null hypothesis. There are many chances that the calculated value is less or equal or more then null hypothesis.

SUGGESTION

Consistency of quality must be maintained to survive in the cut-throat competition (by China and Taiwan) prevalent in the machine tools market

Smt.Sarlaben Vasantbhai Malaviya School of Management 116

Company should ensure satisfactory after sales service. If necessary, the company should increase the service staff also.

Company should make arrangement for the regular availability of spare parts. Company should develop long term relationship with more than one supplier for its programmed control requirements and it should ask for more Company should also produce their own controller. Company should also produce CNC wire cut machines because local customer demands that.
