Crochet Baby Mary Jane Slippers Written by Teresa Richardson Skill Level - Easy Abbreviations HDC - Half Double

Crochet FHDC - Foundation Half Double Crochet Materials Size H/5mm crochet hook 4 ply yarn Tapestry Needle Buttons for Strap Closure Work a chain of 9 if you prefer to use a chain instead. Work the pattern according to the instructions. Sole and Sides Round 1: Side 1- Make 8 foundation half double crochet. Work 4 Half Double Crochet in the same stitch. Side 2- Work 1 HDC in each of the next 6 stitches. Work 4 HDC in the last stitch. Join with the beginning stitch. (22 Half Double Crochet Total) Round 2: Ch 1, pull up, this chain will not count as a stitch, only a step up to make the rest of the stitches. 2 HDC in the same ST. 1 HDC in ea of the next 6 St's. (Increase Section) (This next section has increase stitches to form the rounded shaping of the slipper) 2 HDC in the next ST, 1 HDC in the next St, 2 HDC in the next ST, 1 HDC in the next ST, 2 HDC in the next ST. 1 HDC in ea of the next 6 St's, (Increase Section) 2 HDC in the next ST, 1 HDC in the next ST, 2 HDC in the next ST, 1 HDC in the next St, join. (28Half Double Crochet Total) Round 3-4: Ch 1, pull up, this chain will not count as a stitch, only a step up to make the rest of the stitches. Work 1 HDC in each HDC around. (28 HDC total) Toe Top Find the center of the slipper. Count back 6 stitches and attach the yarn. CH 2. There are going to be a lot of stitches on the hook for the top top. Wrap the yarn over the hook, insert through the next stitch, leave the loops on the hook. Do this 11 times total. When all the loops have been completed, wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through all the loops being careful not to drop loops off of the hook. Adjust the final loop for a tight closure. Chain to secure. Cut a long tail, pull the yarn through the chain. Sew the tail through the stitches a couple of times to make sure the stitches are nice and secure. Knot and sew in the tail.

Strap Skip 2 stitches. Attach the yarn to the 3rd stitch. Ch 1, pull up and work 12 HDC. There will be 2 stitches on each side left unworked. Work 5 Foundation Half Double Crochet to make the strap. The first FHDC will be worked in the same stitch as the last HDC. NOTE: Attach the yarn to the opposite side for the second slipper so you have a closure on each side. Button Loop Chain 5 for the button loop or according to your button size. Join with the opposite end of the Half Double Crochet. Cut the yarn and sew in the tail.

Hook
Sandals: H/8 (5.0mm) or any size to obtain correct gauge. Flowers: C/2 (2.75mm)

Gauge
First 11 chains should measure 2" in length. You want to aim to finish your sandal measuring 4".

NOTE
This pattern is in US terminology and is recommended for 3-6 months. Pattern includes wild rose flower appliqu.

These sandals are crocheted in rounds where you turn your work clockwise and crochet into the foundation chains.

Next step

Chain 15 and fasten off to make your first strap. Chain another 12 and fasten off to make your second strap. Using a yarn needle sew your first strap about 1 from the end of the sandal at the side and sew the other end onto the other side of the sandal. Sew your second strap about 1 from the front of the sandal, just slightly to the right or left depending on what foot it is for and sew it into the first strap in the middle so the strap runs up the middle of the foot.

This sweet crochet pattern is a quick project for even the newest crocheter. This particular pattern is for a 3 t0 6 month old baby. As in all crochet, you can increase the size for a bigger baby or child by using a larger size needle and thicker yarn. HOOK: H YARN: #4, Aran OR Worsted
