Examinations Services

Registration Instructions May and June 2012 Examination session General Certificate of Education (GCE) International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) The GCE/IGCSE/GCSE are school-leaving certificates in Britain comparable to the Tawjihi in Jordan. These certificates are offered by Edexcel Limited (Edexcel) and University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and they have international credibility as educational qualifications. The British Council is an examination centre. We provide assistance to students in registering for the exams. We do not provide study courses. Communication

If you are a school student enrolled in any of our GCE/IGCSE recognised schools, and would like to register for an exam, or to use any of the related services (e.g. Re-marking), you should contact your school co-ordinator. If you are a private candidate, you should contact our Customer Service Office for administrative assistant and the candidate is responsible for choosing the subjects they want to register for.

Late Entries Dates


Applications received within the following dates will be subjected to a late entry fee in addition to the subject fee. If the candidate wishes to change the options during the late entry period he/she will be charged a late entry fee. Restricted subjects Private candidates and candidates whose schools do not have approved labs will not be able to register for any subject with practical, oral or coursework components unless they provide us with a written agreement from an approved and equiped schools to run the exam.

British Coucnil does not accept to register candidates enrolled in schools as private candiates without the schools written permission.

Withdrawal and refund

Candidates who have given written notice to the British Council of their intention to withdraw from the examination by the last date for regular entry may expect to receive a full refund of the subject fees. A charge of 25% of the total number of subjects/Modules fee will not be refunded. Candidates who have given written notice to the British Council of their intention to withdraw from an examination from the first day of the start date of late registration may not expect to receive a refund. On medical grounds refund may be issued upon the Boards descrition. Please note that all refunds will be issued after the end of the examinaitons period.

Examination results Provisional Results will be released by: the end of March for the January session and mid-January for the November session and mid-August for May/June sessions. For exact date please check with your school or with the British Council if you are a private candidate in due time. Certificates Certificates will be issued two months after the result release and candidates should collect them directlty as they arrive. School candidates collect their certificates from their schools, while private candidates collect their certificates from the British Council. The British Council will only keep the private uncollected certificates for three years. Free services Amending statement of entry and results The information presented on the certificate is what was provided on the candidates statement of entry and results; therefore, it is essential that candidates report any mistakes on the statement of entry and results immediately.

Access arrangements

This service is offered to help candidates who have permanent disabilities or who suffer from medical conditions which affect performance at the time of the examination. Access arrangements include an extra time allowance, the provision of specially adapted papers and assistance with reading and writing. All applications and medical reports must be received with the registration form and are considered on an individual basis by the boards. In order to reserve the credibility and efficiency of the access arrangements reports which have to be in alignment with the boards regulations. The British Council will only accept the reports issued by the following approved centres: 1. Al Murad Center, its a Psychological and Educational Consultation and Training Jordanian Centre, and its licensed by the Ministry of Health, the centre has a group of PhDs and MA specialists. The last date for accepting special arrangement application is 09 October 2011.

Special consideration Centres may apply for Special Consideration for candidates who have sat the examination(s) under adverse conditions: affected by illness, death or other circumstances subject to the boards regulations. When the candidate needs Special consideration, The British Council must be informed directly and provided with the appropriate reports. Paid services The British Council offers the following paid services which should be paid to the British Council only. Re-marking

While exam grades should be a fair reflection of your work, mistakes are sometimes made. If you think your result does not fairly represent your work, you may request that your paper be re-marked. Please remember that all requests for re-marking should be made within one week from the date of releasing provisional results. The remarking is charged as follow: Edexcel and CIE: Fees according to the service on the form + JOD 5.000 admin fees. Amendment of certificates If there was a mistake in the subject, grade or name of candidate a certifying statement of results will be issued. For the fees, please refer to the price list of this information sheet (pages six and seven). Please remember that this service is available only within 18 months of the date of issue of the original certificate. Faulty certificates must be returned to the board. Certifying statement Replacement certificates will no longer be available unless the original has been damaged, destroyed or irretrievably lost by the centre. Certifying statement of results will be issued upon the candidate request. For the fees, please refer to the price list of this information sheet (pages six and seven).

Registration procedures
School candidates: Ask your school Co-ordinator for an application from. Private candidates: Obtain an application form from the Customer Services at the British Council. Opening hours: 0900 to 1830 from Sunday to Thursday, or from our website www.britishcouncil.org./jordan

Read carefully the application form before you fill it, and make sure that you adhere to the instructions printed at the back of the application form.

For registration bring with you the following: three recent passport -size photographs A copy of your passport the appropriate fee in cash or cheque. Please note that your application form cannot be processed without payment.

Ask for a receipt once payment is complete.

You will receive the statement of entry, the examinations timetable and candidates instructions about four weeks prior to the start of the exam session

Check the Statement of Entry upon receipt for accuracy: Name date of birth subjects and papers registered UCI number, if applicable.

Report immediately errors in your statement of entry to your school co-ordinator if you are registered in a school, and to the British Council if you are a private candidate.
