New parts include a new drum , fusing unit and image processing unit. Wide range of paper latitude (A3+ oversize (330x458 mm or 13"x18"), 216 g/m simplex and duplex) from almost all paper trays .

Improved operation via a new enlarged colour display panel. Wide range of professional finishing options like Booklet maker and Punch unit with changeable die sets. Variety of new functions like colour scanning, viewing documents in the Document Server and Preview before Transmission. User benefits: Meets the current downsizing trend in the production segment. Less down time will improve the overall performance of the product. The wide paper latitude better meets the requirements of imposition. The improved operation will further reduce the chance of programming errors. Professionally finished documents will improve the company's image. The new functions will further improve the overall performance while reducing the chance of mistakes.

2. Features
2.1 Higher Performance

As well as a 90 & 110 ppm model, also a 135 ppm model will become available. To allow 135 ppm, the paper feed and gap between two sheets of paper needed to be controlled much more accurately. For this reason, the complete paper feed system is driven by steppen motors.

To better cope with double feed, the machine has a multi-feed detection, which ejects unnecessary paper automatically. The detection is done by measuring the light intensity that goes through the paper (double feed = less intensity).

2.2 Increased Accuracy

Several Contact Image Sensors (1 CIS) have been added in the paper feed section of the machine to further improve the accuracy of the image position on the individual sheet of paper. These sensors detect, with much higher precision, the position of every single sheet of paper when fed towards the drum section. Based on that, the timing and position of the laser can be adjusted for every single sheet, and with that, the position of the image on the paper. So instead of bringing the paper to the image we bring the image to the paper. As a result we offer 0.5 mm front and back registration accuracy (as of today best in Market). Also the duplex unit is newly designed to increase reliability and better handle highspeed paper feeding.

2.3 Enhanced Reliability & Durability

The reliability and durability of the MP9000/1100/1350 has greatly improved. Compared to its predecessor, 70% of the parts have been changed. Among this are a new drum (700K > 2000K), a new fusing unit and improvements in the image processing area. These improvement have increased the duty by 50% and the machine life by more than 50%. To reduce down-time, the product is designed with the TCRU concept. With this concept, the operators are trained to replace all TCRU units around the drum (1, drum, developer unit, charger) and fusing unit (2) themselves, with the benefit of reducing the maintenance time by 50%. This concept is currently being tested and may be introduced by end of 2006.

2.4 Wide range of paper Latitude

The MP9000/1100/1350 offers a very wide paper latitude. Paper weight up to 216 g/m is supported from all paper trays (1 to 7) as well as the cover interposer. The only exception is tray 6 of the A4 LCT (max 163 g/m). Paper sizes of up to oversize A3+ are also supported by all paper trays, except the A4 LCT. Oversize A3+ paper, also known as 13"x18" inch or 330x458 mm paper, is larger than standard A3 paper (15 mm on all 4 sides), which allows the user to print crop marks and trim it to A3. Crop marks are printed crossed lines placed at the corners of a page to indicate where to trim it (Double Print and Speed Print). This crop marks feature is also supported by the printer driver (RPCS).

2.5 New Colour Operation Panel

The MP9000/1100/1350 comes with a new colour operation display for easier use and accessibility. The operation panel is equipped with a Simplified Display button (1). When pressing this button, the function keys in the display will be enlarged (larger fonts) to be easily readable, and the number of function keys will be reduced to only 'basic' copier functionality. It will improve the readability, especially for elderly and people with visual impairment. Also the chance of user mistakes will be reduced, especially in the walk-up environment, when not everyone has received operation training.

2.6 Wide Range of Finishing options

The new SR5000 finisher (1) has a jogger unit (2) as standard to align the output perfectly. Sets can be stapled up to 100 sheets and the staples will be trimmed so that there are never long edges on the staple. The interior of the finisher and also the paper path have been changed to improve the finishing accuracy but also to accommodate the machines high speed of 135 ppm. The finisher can be extended with the 15-sheet BK5000 Saddle Stitch unit (3). Also a cover interposer can be attached to add a (colour) cover to your document. This interposer has a dual station, offerering 2 x 200 sheet capacity and supports the same papersize (so 330x458 mm) and same paper weight (up to 216 g/m) as the rest of the machine.

2.7 Wide Range of Finishing options (cont.)

The GBC StreamPunch III unit enables the user to produce punched (seven popular binding styles) and ready-to-bind documents (1) at rated system speed. The operator can easily and quickly change the die set to change the punching style. The BK5010 booklet maker with optional trimmer and square folding function (2a), enables the user to produce professionally finished A4 and A5 booklets (2). The interposer also supports cover insertion (up to 300g/m). The Z-folder unit is an interesting option for architects, construction companies, industrial plants or any other organization that frequently handles large schedules, tables or illustrations that are difficult to present on anything smaller than A3 (3).

2.8 Functionality Improvement

The MP9000/1100/1350 builds on the strong (copy, print and scan) features of its predecessor. Several of these strong features have been extended, further improving the overall workflow and increasing the efficiency. In addition, several new features have been added to further help the customer extend the efficiency, usage and manageability of the product (new functions in red). It offers the same flexible configuration, allowing you to tailor the machine to the needs of any customer.

2.9 Different Printer Controllers

The customer can select from three different printer controllers. The decision of which controllers to choose should depend on the environment and job types of the customer. 1. The GW-based controller offers, as well as printing, strong scanning (file distribution) functionality. With the entry level embedded controller, you have full access to all the MP9000/1100/1350's features. Featuring Ricoh's unique printer language RPCS and its icon based interface, 'any print job is only a click away'. With the genuine Adobe PostScript3 option, you can obtain the exact output you specified: fast and reliable. 2. EFI's Fiery Controller EB-135 (available 4Q/2006) offers different functionality that will especially help customers in the lightweight production market to optimise their workflow.

2.10 Different Printer Controllers (cont.)

The powerful external controller offers full Fiery functionality and incorporates a variety of utility programs such as Command Workstation to print in record time. Offering easy job composition, job queue monitoring and new features such as hot folders to automate your workflow, this controller gives you the power to meet any demand: straightforward printing of genuine Adobe PostScript files, complex graphics and variable data output fast ripping of heavier (PDF) files easy integration into existing Fiery workflow of the MP1100/1350

3. EFI's MicoPress controller is a complete workflow solution in one package. The MicroPress option consists of a very powerful controller for maximum productivity. It offers advanced scanning, job composition and production printing capabilities. It is available for a single engine, but also to steer multiple engines including clustering features and/or a combination of colour and black and white documents. MicroPress offers a wealth of editing features: you can program each print job from your desktop and afterwards send it to the machine. Ideal for printing on-demand as data is stored in a post-RIP format which saves ripping time.

2.11 High Speed Colour Scanner

The MP9000/1100/1350 is equipped with a (unique) high-speed 24-bit colour scanner, which differentiates us from the competition. Documents are scanned with a speed of 80 spm, and can be easily distributed via the Scan to e-mail / URL / Folder function. JPEG and High-compression PDF can be selected as file formats. High-compression PDF will divide the scans in text and image areas and compress it accordingly. Colour scanning is very useful when dealing with mixed documents (B&W/Colour), or with documents in which corrections with a maker marker are applied. An additional benefit of the colour scanner is a much better reproduction of B/W images in copy mode.

2.12 Preview Display

The MP9000/1100/1350 is equipped with a Thumbnail view and Preview (1) function. It enables the user the (visually) check documents stored in the document server (no need to print) and to check scanned documents before transmitting them, improving the input accuracy (confidential documents). After scanning the document, the following can be previewed: Individual pages of the document File name File size Original page size Scanning direction

2.13 Scan to Folder with NCP support

Scan to Folder is a simple and fast distribution method, which doesn't require any additional hardware/software. The functionality of Scan to Folder is extended by supporting the NCP protocol. NCP (Netware Core Protocol) is the protocol for transmitting information between a Novell NetWare server and its clients. In order to distribute files over the network, it is possible to select the (1) SMB protocol (Windows platform), (2) NCP protocol (Novell environment) and (3) FTP protocol (cross platform). As with the other protocols, as many as 2000 folders can be stored in the MFP, there is almost no restriction on the document size (2.0GB) and as many as 50 folders can be selected per sending.

2.14 Scan to URL

A drawback of Scan to e-mail is the increasing network traffic, as users are scanning complete documents and send it to whoever might need them. Scan to URL can be a solution here, as it reduces the network load. It works in a very similar way to Scan to e-mail, with the difference that the actual scanned document is not attached with the email but stored on the product's HDD. The e-mail only contains a url address (1) of the document. The receiver now can decide to ignore, to only view (WIM) or download the document, by selecting the url. In this way, the actual file is sent only once over the network (scanner user) compared to twice with Scan to folder (scanner folder/SMTP server user).

2.15 Enhanced and New printer features

As well as Sample Print and Locked Print (security), the following print function are available:

The Hold Print function allows you to store print files on the HDD and release them at the machine. This is not so much out of a security reason, but more to prevent having to search for your (multiple) output in the pile of documents. It therefore requires no password, and once printed, the documents are deleted from the HDD.

The Stored Print function allows you to store a job with the print settings from the driver. Whenever the file is required only a single operation is required! The file will stay on the HDD after printing. The Stored and Normal Print function stores (like Stored Print) and prints the file in one selection. When user authentication is set at the machine, all Stored Print (shared) and Stored and Normal Print (shared) jobs will be available to all authorized users. The maximum of 100 of the above file types can be stored on the HDD and are saved when powered off.

2.16 Imposition Settings

The following new print functions are only available in the RPCS driver: With the imposition function Double Print (1), each page is printed twice on the same sheet. After cutting the sheets, the user gets two sets while saving printing time. With the imposition function Speed Print (2), the individual pages are arranged in such a way that after cutting one complete set, the document is separated in two stacks, again saving print time. The Creep function is very useful when making booklets as it will shift the image on the paper so that it will be more easily readable. The Crop Mark function will print crossed lines at the corners of the page to indicate

where to trim it (A3+ to A3).

2.17 Security
As office products evolve to advanced network devices, security threats such as theft, tapping, leaking or falsification of the electric data by spoofing are becoming a major concern in MFP devices. Customers are looking for more security and protection of data information or image information handling with MFP devices. The MP9000/1100/1350 series offer a wide range of security features, which will help the customer to protect his assets: IP filtering, protocol restriction and different forms of authentication (Windows, LDAP, User Code, Basic or Lotus Notes) prevent unauthorized access.

Encryption (IPP printing, Authentication Password Encryption & Address book) reduces tapping threats. The DOS unit prevents theft or leaking of electronic data. The different security features can be set via WIM for which a login/password is required.

2.18 Security Improvements

The operation panel of the MP9000/1100/1350 has been equipped with a Logout button (1). It allows the user to easily logout and the display will switch-back to the login screen for authentication. It will prevent unauthorized persons using the machine when the display hasn't reset itself (yet).

The MP9000/1100/1350 also supports (Lotus) Notes Authentication (2). Authentication is based on the user's (lotus) Notes login details. The Wireless LAN interface supports the latest security standard WPA . WPA offers user authentication and improved encryption.

2.19 Unauthorized Copy Features

Although we can't prevent unauthorized persons making copies of printed documents, the MP9000/1100/1350 offers functions to make it more difficult. Via the RPCS driver, it is possible to apply patterns to the print-out, which will appear hardly visible. When copying these prints, the patterns will make the copy greyed out, or create a deterrent effect. A copy from a print-out with Data security for printing (1) applied will be greyed out (Copy Data Protection Unit required), preventing unauthorized copies. A copy from a print-out with Mask type (2) applied will show an embedded message (typed in the driver), which acts like a warning.

2.20 Other Improvements

Operation flow LDAP Search The number of steps required to find an (e-mail) address in the company's addressbook via LDAP is strongly reduced. Only 5 steps are required, versus at least 8 steps in the predecessor, to find the proper address, which will further improve the usability.

Country Specific Character Support Country specific characters (, etc.) are now supported on the machine. These characters can be used to name documents, for username/password combinations, in alerts, notifications and e-mails and access to folders (containing these characters). Host names and Domain names are not (yet) supported.

Support of IPv6 IPv6 is a replacement for the aging IPv4, which was released in the early 1980s. IPv6 will increase the number of available Internet addresses (from 32 to 128 bits), resolving a problem associated with the growth of the number of computers attached to the Internet.

2.21 Printing in non-Windows environments

As well as Microsoft network environment, other network environments are used. Examples are Unix, Linux, Novell and IBM. Within these 'other' environments (huge) print volumes are also generated, making it very interesting (revenue wise) to print it on NRG printers. The way to connect a printer in these environments and/or use printer specific features (duplex, stapling, etc) is however different to that of the Windows environment. For the MP9000/1100/1350 different solutions are available for the following environments. Your support department (or customer) knows how to install these tools.

2.22 Printing in non-Windows environments (cont.)

For the Unix/Linux environment (Sun Solaris, HP-UX, SCO Openserver, RedHat Linux, IBM AIX), Ricoh offers a Unix filter which can be downloaded from it's websites.

A frequently used printing system in Linux (RedHat) is CUPS. An MP9000/1100/1350 PPD is required to address printer specific features in CUPS. This PPD can be downloaded from the Internet (www.linuxprinting.org). In order to address product specific features in a SAP R/3 environment, Ricoh has developed a Custom Device Type which can be downloaded from it's websites.

In order to install the printer in a Novell environment according the NDPS architecture, an NDPS Gateway can be downloaded from Ricoh's websites. In order to address product specific features in a Citrix Metaframe environment, Ricoh has developed a Device Option Utility which can be downloaded from it's websites. In order to print in an IBM environment, the HPCOLORLJ MFRTYPEMDL can be used to print SCS and AFPDS character strings. In order to support IPDS, an IPDS enabler is planned (July '06).

2.23 SDK: Customise your MFP

Device SDK is an Java based architecture, which allows 3rd party developers to customise the way our MFPs work. This means that functionality, which is not included as standard, can be added later, enabling solutions entirely matching the requirements of the customer's workflow. Via the RiDP, 3rd party developers receive all the support, resources and tools needed to integrate their products with our hardware and software. Ricohs Embedded Software Architecture stretches far beyond Canons MEAP Java platform. Practical example: A legal firm scans hundreds of documents every day but feel they waste too much time going through all the scanning options/menus. They requested a 3rd party software company to develop a customisation on our product. Via the tools and resources of RiDP, the software company developed a solution which allows the employees to simply select in the customised touch screen of the MFP which kind of document they want to scan (e.g. contract, project, invoice, etc) and the document will automatically be scanned with the correct settings and sent to the appropriate location.

2.24 Sustainable Design

To preserve the environment, Ricoh has identified the overall environmental impact of its products and business activities. More and more they produce products that have minimum impact on the environment. Not only this, they are also manufactured at plants that generate minimum environmental impact (like 'zero waste). The following have been applied to the MP9000/1100/1350: Resource Conservation & Recycling Design for Recycling and Easy Dismantling X-in-1 print function 100% PVC minimized cabling

5. Software
5.1 Installer

The MP9000/1100/1350 comes with an auto installer CD containing all the printer drivers (RPCS, PCL5e, PCL6, Adobe PS3) and software (SmartDeviceMonitor). DeskTopBinder and the TWAIN driver are available on a separate CD or downloadable via the Internet. After selecting the preferred language, the different items can be installed individually as well as together.

5.2 Web Image Monitor (WIM)

Web Image Monitor enables the user to manage the device as well as the documents stored on the document server, without the need for additional software. The Web Image Monitor screen is divided into 3 areas: Area 1 enables the user to select a function of Web Image Monitor. Some of the functions are password protected (administrator mode). In area 2 the user can switch between languages (like operation panel). Area 3 is the actual information/work field of the function selected in area 1. Since this field is not automatically refreshed, you will find a Refresh button in the upper right

corner of this field.

5.3 SmartDeviceMonitor for Client

SmartDeviceMonitor for Client increases the total productivity of the user. The software enables the user to monitor his (out-of-view) network device from his PC in the Windows taskbar (1a). The actual status of the device is shown through 6 different icons (1b). More detailed information can be obtained by clicking on the icon in the windows taskbar. This will open a new window (2a), showing more different icons (2b). By clicking on a specific device in the list, all information available becomes visible (3). No more walking to check the status of your machine!

5.4 SmartDeviceMonitor Features

SmartDeviceMonitor for Client offers some very unique additional features (like no need for a print server), in the form of SmartDeviceMonitor-port. The recovery print function (1) improves the workflow by checking the status of the selected printer prior to sending the job. If the printer is not available, it will automatically search for other available printers on the network, saving the customer having to search for one manually. The parallel print function (2) allows the splitting of a big print job over 2 or more similar printers available in the network automatically, improving productivity. The notification function (3) informs when and where the print job has been delivered in the output bin, preventing the customer from having to check it personally!

5.5 Network Device Management

When a network device is not responding, the IT-department wants to know, straightaway, what is wrong with that product, without walking to the machine. For this, NRG offers the following solutions: 1. SmartDeviceMonitor for Admin This bundled software allows administrators to monitor and/or configure (via WIM) every NRG-based network device. It needs to be installed as a separate application. 2. Web SmartDeviceMonitor This solution offers administrators a browser based device management portal, delivering web based control from any location. This solution is especially appropriate for larger environments with many devices.

5.6 DeskTopBinder

This software allows the user to handle various types of documents such as scanned documents, incoming faxes and application files on the network. DeskTopBinder (DTB) can access documents at different locations on the network like: Delivery Server (ScanRouter) Document Server (MFP) Local files (My Computer) Shared File Server To enable the user to search / open / edit / re-distribute documents and directly print PDF Files (1), DTB needs to be installed on the Client PC.

5.7 DeskTopBinder Functionality

With DTB users can view, copy, delete, rename and output all kinds of documents. To search (view) a document, DTB offers different viewing options. The thumbnail view (1) option gives the user a preview of that document. You can combine stored images and application files (2) into one (multi section) document and output the file as one document. When printing these files via the RPCS driver, it is possible to add headers/footers, page, stamp and punch functions to the complete document. DTB also enables you to edit a document. In this way, you are able to add text, stamps and/or illustrations to the document (3).
