Cranes

Quality and value for money

Steel structure Demag overhead travelling cranes are characterised by their very low dead weight combined with maximum rigidity. The ideal box-girder section to achieve this is calculated with the aid of modern computer programs. The advantages of this are low crane wheel loads and lightweight craneways which result in a reduction in building costs. All structural members are shot-blasted prior to fabrication and given a protective coat of zinc phosphate paint. End carriages Travel wheel, reduction gear and motor have been combined to form a virtually maintenance-free assembly. Quiet running only 70 dB(A) (A gearbox with Z motors) due to the enclosed gear stages running in oil, high-quality helical teeth and the natural damping properties of the travel wheels which are manufactured from spheroidal graphite cast iron GGG 70 which reduces wear on wheel treads and craneways due to the self-lubricating effect of the material. Easy fitting and removal of the reduction gear is a result of the sliding fit of its hollow shaft on the travel wheel shaft. Both shafts are protected against corrosion. Crane geometry Excellent running properties including straight travel with little wear and minimum noise are the result of the perfect alignment geometry of all Demag overhead travelling cranes. To achieve this, the holes for the travel wheel bearings and the surfaces for mounting the crane girder to the end carriages are machined in one operation on special NC machine tools.

Hoist units Demag hoist units are designed to meet the requirements of the accepted European and other engineering and legislative standards. The design of the mechanical and electrical components is based on decades of practical experience. Demag sliding-rotor brake motors ensure loads are held safely even in the event of a power failure. Precise lifting and lowering of loads can be achieved by fitting a microspeed unit. Hoist units with load capacities of 1000 kg are fitted with load detectors as specified by the EC Machinery Directive with load monitoring to protect people, goods, the crane and supporting structure. Electrical equipment Functional reliability by contactor control of all movements. Easy operation via push-button pendants or joystick controls in the case of cab control. Orderly layout of the switchgear on mounting plates housed in steel casings. All connections of the flexible internal wiring are made with vibration-resistant terminals. A main contactor ensures the simultaneous cut-out of all drive motors. All Demag crane installations are supplied with binding circuit documentation, e.g. with the circuit diagrams divided into power feed and drive units.

Additional equipment Travel drives with digital frequency inverters make it possible to achieve high positioning accuracy by means of infinitely variable long and cross-travel speeds. Smooth acceleration and deceleration reduce load sway, thus guaranteeing gentle handling of the load. Load spectrum recorder to determine the remaining theoretical hoist unit service life to FEM 9.755. Information online On the www.cranes.demagcranes.com Internet site, an array of additional information on standard cranes has been made available for you via our planning consultant. Within a matter of seconds, you can design your own crane installation interactively which is tailored to meet your individual needs. Technical documentation is also provided on the TIP CD-ROM which is available upon request.

Single-girder overhead travelling cranes

Economical solutions in the medium load range

36006-10

37661-9

The single-girder crane offers the advantage of a low dead weight. Low-headroom hoists provide good overall dimensions. Single-girder cranes are designed to be controlled from the floor. The power supply to the travelling hoist and the Demag DVS mobile control system are compact conductor line arrangements protected from accidental contact on box girder section cranes. Trailing cable arrangements are used on the profile section girder system.

Steelwork The steel structure is designed to DIN 15 018, Lifting Class 2, Loading Group 3 (other ratings available on request). The main girder and the end carriages are connected by high-tensile bolts. The hoist unit travels on the bottom flange of the main girder.

Long travel drives Maintenance-free drive units act directly on one travel wheel on each side of the crane, The travel drive, a Demag slidingrotor brake motor, guarantees smooth starting and allows a high number of starts and stops. The hard-wearing spheroidal graphite cast iron travel wheel has a taper-fit connection with the travel wheel shaft. This design is simple to service.

Double-girder overhead travelling cranes

For heavy loads and large spans

37970-6

37173-10

Double-girder cranes have the advantage of low overall height as the load hook can almost always be raised between the two crane girders. Double-girder cranes can be equipped for cab or floor control. Crab control is prescribed for speeds higher than 63 m/min. Used in combination with a radio remote control system for higher long travel speeds. The cab or floor control unit can be in a fixed position on the girder, can travel with the crab or travel independently along the crane girder.

Cranes can also be controlled from a stationary control panel or by means or infrared or radio control. Automatic operation is also possible with appropriate equipment.

Load detectors

Load measurement and inceased safety for supporting structures

Efficient production requires all hoists to be working to capacity. The EC Machinery Directive stipulates overload protection for the design. Reliable operation over the whole load range, even under arduous conditions. Mechanical load detection MGS load link with mechanical microswitches and MKA-2 electronic evaluator for overload protection and overload cut-off. Maximum switching point deviation 2.5 %, after 2 x 106 load cycles.

Load spectrum recorder Relevant legislation in many countries stipulates that the remaining safe working period (SWP) has to be determined. WLK-1 or FWL load spectrum recorders make it easy to calculate the remaining service life accurately. Electronic load detection Carrier link with strain gauge bridge, FGB frequency generator and FAW-1 frequency evaluator for overload protection and overload cut-off. The electronics provide setpoint load limitation, summation measurement and hoist motor cut-off in the case of slack rope. An optional feature is a digital load display which can be used for assessing the approximate handling rate of an installation. Three-figure digital display, with a choice between Type ANZ-1 in the DST control pendant, Type ANK-1 in the drivers cab, or ANG-1 large format display (character height 120 mm).

Operation with Dematik FGB/FAW-1 Overload cut-out In the case of hoist units without creep lifting, dynamic forces make it difficult to measure the load exactly. The rotating masses of the drive require a certain braking time before stopping. As a result, the load may be lifted off the ground, depending on the braking time, the weight of the load, the WK2 and the elasticity of the supporting structure, or a higher load may occur. After cut-out, only lowering is possible. Overload protection After energising the main hoist, the weight of the load is measured continuously via the tensile force on the rope as the load is lifted. If the load is < 12.5% of the nominal load, the hoist runs up to the main lifting speed. If the load reaches 12.5%, the hoist is automatically switched to creep lifting speed and the measuring period TM starts automatically. If, during the measuring period, loads which are > 110% of the nominal load are reached, creep lifting is also switched off and only lowering is possible. With loads which are > 12.5% < 110%, the main lifting speed is switched on again at the end of the measuring period.
