Dr. ALBERT PLESMAN

Dr. Albert Plesman born on 7th September, 1889 in Hague, Netherlands.

What Airline did he establish and when? Dr. Albert Plesman was co-founder and president of KLM- ROYAL DUTCH AIRLINE which is the National Airline of Netherlands and the worlds oldest scheduled airline. He Started this in October 7th, 1919. But the first flight flied on May 17th 1920. It was between Croydon Airport, London to Amsterdam. The first flight was carried with lots of newspapers. Moreover, there were also two passengers in flight.

What did he do that made people take notice?

Dr. Plesman had sponsored the first Aviation Exhibition that had been noticed very much into people. It was been organised for more than 45 days from 1st August to 15th September in 1919. More than 5 lakhs People had enjoyed this Air Show. This was Financially Supported by Amsterdam Shipping Company Called ELTA. Dr. Plesman gave the Title Koninklijke which means Royal to the Companys Name. (ROYAL DUTCH AIRLINE).

In 1930, He gave one term RandStad Holland which means Rim City Holland and the term became popular in 1950 throughout the Dutch Spatial Policy.

Why do you they founded the airline/got involved? Dr. Plesman was educated as an army officer; he started working as an army pilot in 1918, then he convinced between staffs that aeroplane could be used as transporter for passengers, mail and goods as well. This initial thought got him involved in KLM. But before involving to KLM, he was founder of IATA also. He started more involving in aviation industry after becoming Main person of KLM. HISTORY OF KLM-USING DATES A thirty year old Mr. Albert Plesman gave a tremendous Shape to the KLM Airline. Oct. 07/1919:- KLM [Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij] was been founded. Oct 21/1919:- The First Office of KLM started in Heerengracht in Hague, Netherlands. May 09/1921:- KLM established the first office for their passengers in Leidseplein, Amsterdam. Sep 1945:- KLM had resumed the services following the second world war, it was started first by domestically.

Since the starting of the company, KLM has always been increased and KLM has introduced some of the great services and aircrafts for the aviation industry. Oct 1920:- KLM transported 345 passengers and 25,000 kilos of cargo and mail while flying was such a new and fresh trend. Sept 1929:- The worlds longest distance scheduled service of that era was introduced and started by KLM. Dec 1933:- KLM became most popular for fastest mail and cargo service between Amsterdam to Batavia in a record time. Dec 1934:- Dr. Plesman Introduced his companys first Transatlantic Flight. June 1989:- The Amazing Aircraft Boing 747-400 was introduced by KLM. July 1995:- Another Boing 767-300 ER aircraft put into service by KLM.

Not only the Company was Profit Oriented, but KLM has also acted as most helpful organization in aviation industry. Nov 1 1999:- The Company organised AIRCARES- A fundraising platform supporting to important causes and focusing on underprivileged children from all around the world. Dec 1999:- KLM was been Certified by ISO 14001 for Pursuing the protective and safe environment management system. It was worlds first Airline who got this certification. June 2007:- KLM also made partnership with Worldwide Fund for Nature, the pollution under control steps were taken and applied by KLM.

For the Business Point of View, KLM never got down too badly since the inception; KLM has also been working together in Partnership Since 1989. Jul 1989:- KLM made an agreement with NORTHWEST AIRLINE by acquiring 20% of interests in Company. March 1988:- Nether lines European Commuter Service was been taken over by KLM Jan 1993:- KLM become Partner with NORTHWEST AIRLINE. Nov 1993:- The record making Ten Million Passengers travelled by KLM AIRLINE in a single year; it was happened first time in KLM History. Sept 2004:- KLM joined SKYTEAM alliance. March 2005:- AIR FRANCE KLM GROUP introduced the new FLYING BLUE- it was combined frequent flyer program. Dec 2008:- KLM fully took over the Martin Air.

So, although Dearest Dr. Plesman is not with us, he has given KLM the best strategies of aviation service which is being followed till the recent time as well. AIRLINE STILL FLYING GREATLY WITH LARGE EMPIRE IN AVIATION INDUSTRY: KLM Airline has been working greatly with customer efficient activities and better use of services. It is now working with Air France since 2004 and with Northwest Airline since 1993. It is the worlds oldest airline which is still working with its Original Name. and every year now KLM is providing its services to more than twenty millions of passengers who are travelling through KLM.

What made him Stand Out as Pioneer? The company is still running its business more than 90 years in aviation industry. Dr. Plesman served since last 1953; it was really tragic year for company which had lost the evergreen and perfect business leader. But his management systems, his innovated thoughts and ideas are forever with KLM and this is the proof that KLM has never been passed through very hard time. This achievements and Credits of success of KLM made Dr. Plesman Stand out as True and Successful Pioneer in Aviation Industry. What things he brought to Aviation industry that no one else done? He founded and directed a powerful airline in the world which became a national institution at home as well as the best leading international airline in virtually throughout the world. Dr. Plesmans perfect and varieties of choices in aircrafts and equipments gave the new trend in technical development in the industry. The aircrafts such as Boing, Douglas, Fokker, Airbus are best aircraft used by KLM. Moreover he founded IATA [International Air Transport Association] which is now become a major organization cooperating with all alliances and airlines in the world. The Bureau of Design inter-department in KLM was introduced by Dr. Plesman in 1952 which was the new and first trend department who working on the design and color of aircrafts, the brand logos and materials etc so these all new things were introduced or no one else done before Dr. Plesman gave to the Aviation Industry. Why I Included Dr. Plesman? Dr. Albert Plesman will be my favourite and motivational pioneer because of his exceptional merits and services for developing the Airline Business. He was not only the person who just worked as manager. He had motivated his employees and trained them all in such a valuable guidelines of him, and for a result, KLM is still flying successfully since last 93 years in Aviation Industry. ADDITIONAL INTERESTING ITEMS: Dr. Plesman was the first pioneer in the world who had been awarded by Edward Warner Award in 1959. He had been conferred as Honorary Doctorate by Delft Academy of Technology in 1947.
