Earlier, Fong Po Kuan
(DAP-Batu Gajah) raised
a point of order, saying that
Tajuddin had used offensive
language against Mujahid
while Mujahid was debating
a motion brought by Teo Nie
Ching (DAP-Serdang).
“Pasir Salak has always
been using harsh words.
Yesterday, he insulted another
race. And then, he used words
which berbau lucah (have
sexual connotations). How can
we let him repeatedly tarnish
the Parliament? Strict action
must be taken against him,”
Fong said.
“People are asking, why
does he continuously insult
the Dewan and the MPs and
go scot-free? Please make a
decision to protect the good
name of the Dewan.”
Fong was supported by
M. Kulasegaran (DAP-
Ipoh Barat), who called for
Tajuddin to be suspended
from the Dewan under Article
26(1)(h) of the Standing Order.
He said action should be
taken so that the House is
not seen to practise double
standard because when
Gobind Singh Deo (DAP-
Puchong) used disrespectful
words, he was thrown out.
Chong Chieng Jen
(DAP-Bandar Kuching) said
he witnessed the incident on
Wednesday and saw Kiandee
“shaking his head in disgust”.
He said what Tajuddin did was
humiliating.
Datuk Seri Wilfred
Bumburing (BN-Tuaran),
who supported the call, said the
BN MPs also viewed the matter
seriously. As a long-term MP,
he felt the MPs must be of a
“higher standard” and uphold
their dignity.
Kulasegaran later raised
another point of order about
the motions raised in the
Dewan Rakyat, especially
by the Opposition, “which
were always rejected by the
speaker”.
“Although we may have
different opinions on certain
issues, the speaker should
at least allow the motion to
be read in the Dewan so that
people know we were fighting
for a cause,” he said.
He was supported by Datuk
Bung Moktar Radin (BN-
Kinabatangan), who said
motions on humanitarian issues
and universal problems are
important and the MPs should
be allowed to discuss them.
Wan Junaidi said he would
discuss it with Speaker Tan
Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia. He
said if a motion actually met all
the three conditions for it to be
discussed, it should be allowed
to proceed.

PSD offenders’ names
won’t be published
THE government does not intend to
publish in the newspapers the names
of civil servants penalised for abuse of
power and misconduct, Deputy Minister
in the Prime Minister’s Department
Datuk Johari Baharum said.
“The Public Services Department
(PSD) only publishes statistics on the
number of government officers against
whom disciplinary action has been
taken, the type of offences and the kind
of action taken,” he told Dr Mohd Puad
Zarkashi (BN-Batu Pahat).
“To date, PSD has published the
figures for 2006 and 2007. However,
beginning this year, the statistics will
be released every quarter of the year,”
Johari said.
No change in policy on
political asylum
MALAYSIA has never given political
asylum status to anyone and does
not intend to change the policy,
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Chor
Chee Heung said.
The government does not have
statistics on the number of political
refugees and the amount of money
used to sustain them at the deten-
tion camps, he told Ahmad Lai
Bujang (BN-Sibuti).
Chor said the government is con-
cerned that giving political asylum
would lead to a flock of immigrants
coming to the country with the in-
tention to get economic gains on the
pretext of seeking political shelter.
