LBYMEEM Experiment 8 Pressure Controllers I. OBJECTIVES After the experiment, the students will be able to: 1. Plot the psychormetric cycle of a ducted air conditioning system; and 2. Characterize the system by determining the air flowrate and wet and dry bulb temperature in each state point, and compute the GSHR and RSHR. II. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

1. Centralized Air Conditioning System 2. Anemometer 3. Sling Psychrometer III. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE

1. Put on the system and set the temperature to 15 oC and fan speed to 2. 2. Remove the diffusers in the four duct supply points. 3. Vacate the room, close the doors and let it cool down for 15 minutes. 4. Measure the dry bulb and wet bulb temperature outside of the room near the outside air inlet duct, air entering and leaving the duct, air leaving the four diffusers and air entering the return duct. Plot the cycle in the psychrometric chart and compute for the room sensible heat ratio and grand sensible heat ratio. Also estimate the apparatus dewpoint. Also draw the schematic diagram of the system and label the dry bulb and wet bulb temperature and air flowrate (CFM) in each state point. 5. Determine the percentage of outside air by mass in the supply line. 6. Measure the area of and air velocity at the four supply points and compute the volume flowrate. 7. Compute the sensible and latent heat removed by the coil and added in the room. 8. Open the door and let the conditions stabilized for 15 minutes. 9. Repeat the steps 1 to 7. 10. Set fan to 3 and Repeat process 1 to 9 11. Analyze results and relate discussions to the following points: Was there a change in the total heat load of the room and apparatus in the four settings? Explain your answer How did the RSHR, GSHR and ADP vary in the four settings? Explain the results. Was the system able to provide the ideal conditions in the room? If not, what do you recommend to obtain the recommended conditions?

LBYMEEM Experiment 8 Pressure Controllers V. CONCLUSION

When doors are closed, RSHR reaches values above 1 in both runs while when doors are open, RSHR would decrease since there will be an addition of latent heat load. On the other hand, GSHR is not consistent. VI. APPENDIX

In a split type refrigeration system, the refrigerant cycle is far from the load. Split type airconditioning systems has higher capacity that the window type ones. The split type separates the compressor and condenser from the evaporator and the throttling device. This is useful since compressors, which could produce a lot of noise, may be put away from the facility to be cooled.
