NOTE: This booklet describes the diagnostic
pages and codes that show on the Collins
Avionics System. This publication is intended to
help the flight line technician use these built-in
diagnostics to test and troubleshoot the avionics
units.
QUICK TEST: Show the LRU STATUS page and
look for fault messages. NO FAULTS means all
monitored units are normal and no messages
exist. This is an overall system check; refer to
page 2.
ENGAGE/DISENGAGE FAIL: Use the FCC
diagnostics to isolate an autopilot or yaw damper
engage/disengage problem. Report Mode codes
identify what is currently preventing the AP or YD
engage and what caused the last disengage.
Refer to the Report Mode page.
l
Enter Diagnostics
1. Apply power to all avionics systems. Wait 5
minutes so the system can stabilize.
2. Locate the MAINT switch (MFD1/OFF/MFD2)
behind the pilot's seat.
3. Set this switch to the MFD1 (or MFD2)
position. The selected MFD shows the
MAINTENANCE MENU page.
4. Enter diagnostics by selecting LRU STATUS,
LRU FAULT HISTORY, LRU DIAGNOSTIC
DATA, or FCC DIAGNOSTICS. On the ECP,
use the UP or DN buttons to move the cursor
(>) to the desired line, then push the SEL
button to show the page.
2
LRU STATUS Page
1. Show the MAINTENANCE MENU page.
2. Move the cursor to the LRU STATUS line, then
push the SEL button.
"NO FAULTS" means all monitored units OK.
This page lists each currently non-functioning LRU
that is monitored by diagnostics. The FAULT
MESSAGE line describes the detected problem
(or information) for that LRU. The STATUS column
indicates the required action:
FAILED - Replace this LRU.
OFF/NO OUTPUT - Check power to LRU.
OVERHEAT - Check fan/cooling system.
LRU OK/INFO - No fault, information only.
MAINTENANCE - Perform maintenance action.
DEFERRED MAINT - No fault, future action
(i.e. low battery).
3
The LRU STATUS page is useful as a quick
system test. After a maintenance action, look at
the LRU STATUS page to make sure the system
operation is correct. Remember to allow the
system to stabilize for at least 5 minutes before
using the diagnostics (refer to page 1).
Look at the LRU STATUS page when a problem is
first suspected. If the diagnostics do not detect any
failures, and no fault messages exist, then the
LRU STATUS page shows the message NO
FAULTS. If the diagnostic system has detected a
failure, this page shows the problem LRU name
with a descriptive FAULT MESSAGE and STATUS
condition. Check these displays and do the
required action as defined in the previous
paragraph.
For example, the first fault listed in the sample
display means: The right-side air data computer
(ADC 2) is diagnosed as FAILED, since the data
bus output from this unit is not active at the
receiving units (NO R-ADC-1 OUT). The required
action (FAILED status) is to replace ADC 2.
The LRU STATUS page is an active display that
automatically updates as fault conditions show or
clear. Most fault entries show on this page
between 0 and 30 seconds after they are first
detected. Some monitors have a time delay to
prevent nuisance faults of transient conditions.
If multiple LRU STATUS pages exist, push the UP
and DN buttons, on the ECP, to show the previous
or next LRU STATUS page. Push the CKLST
button to show the MAINTENANCE MENU page.
4
LRU FAULT HISTORY Page
1. Show the MAINTENANCE MENU page.
2. Move the cursor to the LRU FAULT HISTORY
line, then push the SEL button.
"NO FAULTS" means no faults are stored.
This page is a record of LRU faults diagnosed
while the aircraft is airborne or within 30 seconds
after touchdown. Up to 400 faults may be stored.
Each entry has the name of the failed LRU, the
flight leg, time/date of failure, a short description of
the detected fault, and the octal label-diagnostic
word. The MDC saves the diagnostic word
received from that LRU when the first failure is
detected. The diagnostic word shows in binary or
hex format. The binary format shows data bits 32
to 9 from left-to-right on the screen. Bits 8 to 1
contain the label (350) of that diagnostic word.
5
The LRU FAULT HISTORY page stores the fault
entries that have been detected during previous
flights. This diagnostic page is especially useful
when investigating a recurring problem. Note that
the fault entries show in reverse-chronological
order; the last detected fault shows at the top of
page 1.
For example, the first fault log entry listed in the
sample display has the following information. A
right-side automatic direction finder (ADF 2) fault
was detected during flight leg 40 at 7:17 on
January 25, 1994. The fault was an internal
"various circuitry" failure, and can be identified by
decoding the 350 word from the ADF unit. This
example shows that bits 10, 19, and 22 are set.
Refer to the Diagnostic Word Bit Definition table
provided later in this publication to decode the
information contained in these bits of the ADF
(350) word.
If multiple pages exist, push the UP or DN buttons,
on the ECP, to show the previous or next LRU
FAULT HISTORY pages.
The diagnostic words show in either binary or hex
format. Push the SEL button, on the ECP, to select
the desired binary or hex format.
Push the CKLST button to show the
MAINTENANCE MENU page.
The IAPS I/O Concentrators (IOC) receive a
diagnostic word from each reporting unit. This
diagnostic data is then relabeled by the IOCs and
supplied to the Maintenance Diagnostic Computer
(MDC). Push the SKP button, on the ECP, to show
either the labels output by the source LRU
(SOURCE LABEL) or the IOC labels (IOC4
LABEL) supplied to the MDC.
6
LRU DIAGNOSTIC DATA Page
1. Show the MAINTENANCE MENU page.
2. Move the cursor to the LRU DIAGNOSTIC
DATA line, then push the SEL button.
This page lists every unit that usually outputs a
diagnostic word (or words) to the MDC. Each
reporting LRU is listed with the current status
condition and the octal label-diagnostic word (in
binary or hex format) received from that LRU. This
active display updates as new data is received.
The STATUS field indicates the current operating
condition of the unit; refer to LRU STATUS
paragraph. The STATUS field is blank if the status
is normal.
The diagnostic word (or words) received from the
unit shows in the selected format. If data is not
received, this field is dashed.
?
The LRU DIAGNOSTIC DATA page shows active
data words and status conditions. Use this
diagnostic display and the Diagnostic Word Bit
Definitions table provided in this publication to
directly monitor the LRU diagnostic data outputs.
Each diagnostic word contains useful information
that may simplify the troubleshooting effort.
For example, the first LRU listed in the sample
display shows that the ADC 1 computer STATUS
is normal (blank) and that data bits 9, 30, and 31
are set in both the 350 and 351 diagnostic output
words. The ADC 2 computer is FAILED and does
not supply diagnostic data words to the MDC. The
ADF 1 receiver STATUS is normal, and bits 9, 30,
and 31 are set in the 350 diagnostic data word.
The ADF 2 receiver is not supplying any data
output to the IOCs (also no 350 word to the MDC);
check the circuit breaker. The CDU 1 computer
STATUS is normal, and bits 9, 18, 20, 21, and 22
are set in the 354 diagnostic data word.
Refer to the Diagnostic Word Bit Definitions table
to decode the information contained in these bits
of the diagnostic word. Note that an SSM of 00
(failure warning) does not necessarily mean a bad
unit. It may only indicate a bit is set in the
diagnostic word.
Diagnostic words show in either binary or hex
format. Push the SEL button, on the ECP, to select
the desired binary or hex format.
Push the SKP button, on the ECP, to show either
the source LRU labels or the IOC labels supplied
to the MDC.
Push the UP and DN buttons, on the ECP, to show
the previous or next LRU DIAGNOSTIC DATA
page. Push the CKLST button to show the
MAINTENANCE MENU page.
8
The following pages define the information
contained in the LRU diagnostic words. Each word
shows in binary or hexadecimal format and can be
easily interpreted to read the data contained in
that word. Read a diagnostic word as follows:
1. Find the page showing the LRU word of
interest.
2. Push SEL button, on the ECP, to show binary
(1's and 0's) format. If only hex format is
available, convert each hex digit to binary
format (i.e., 6 = 0110) as shown below.
3. Mark 1 or 0 on each line. Each line defines
one bit of the diagnostic word. The description
of each line marked with a 1 is true.

Bits are numbered 9 to 32, right to left. Bits 10, 14,
16, 21, and 26 are set; the definitions for these five
bits are all currently true. For an ADC unit, this
word means: LRU is ADC 2, IAS computation is
invalid, FIFO memory failed, Qc (pitot) sensor
failed, Qc channel ACM failed, and LRU is failed
(SSM is 00).

FCC DIAGNOSTICS
The FCC DIAGNOSTICS provide a means to
isolate faults within the flight control system. Use
these diagnostics if an autopilot or flight director
problem exists that cannot be isolated after
viewing the LRU STATUS page. Note that the
flight control computers control the FCC
DIAGNOSTICS display, not the MDC computer.
The FCC DIAGNOSTICS has three basic modes.
The report mode shows selected internal FCC
monitor information. The input mode shows
selected inputs to the FCC computers. The output
mode shows and controls selected FCC outputs.
The left, right, or both FCC computers may be put
into diagnostic mode. On the FCP, simultaneously
push any two mode buttons and the left (or right)
FD button to put the left (or right) FCC into
diagnostic mode; TEST annunciates on the left (or
right) PFD. The FCC that is in diagnostic mode
outputs the MFD display. When both FCCs are in
diagnostic mode, push the XFR button (on FCP) to
select which FCC outputs the display data to the
MFD. A blue arrow on the diagnostic page points
to the FCC (left or right) that output the display
data.
Note that the FCC computers do not store
diagnostic codes in nonvoIatiIe memory. The
FCCs start recording data at power up and
retain this data onIy whiIe power remains on.
When the aircraft is powered down, aII
accumuIated data is Iost. When investigating
an FCC probIem, write down aII nonzero
REPAIR, AP ENG, AP DIS, YD ENG, YD DIS,
STEER and BOOST codes before power
shutdown. Record aII six digits of each
nonzero code.

Certain FCC diagnostic words are sent to the
MDC computer, and may be stored in the MDC
nonvolatile fault memory. The FCC supplies
REPAIR, AP DIS, AP ENG, YD DIS, and YD ENG
code fault data to the MDC. These codes are
described in the Report Mode paragraph.
If the MDC fault memory is not full when FCC
codes are sent, this data is recorded in memory.
The information is now retained after power down,
and shows on the LRU FAULT HISTORY page as
FCC (071 and 351) diagnostic words. If the MDC
fault memory is full when FCC codes are sent, the
data is not stored.
The Challenger 604 has four FCCs. One pair of
FCCs is active while the other pair is in standby.
Turn the AFCS SEL knob to select FCS system 1
(FCC pair in IAPS quadrants 1A and 2A) or FCS
system 2 (FCC pair in IAPS quadrants 1B and
2B). The LRU DIAGNOSTIC DATA page shows
the diagnostic words from the active pair of FCCs.
Turn the AFCS SEL knob to view the diagnostic
words from the other pair of FCCs.
How to enter FCC DIAGNOSTICS:
1. Set the pedestal-mounted AFCS SEL knob to
select the desired pair of FCC computers.
2. Show the MAINTENANCE MENU page.
3. Move cursor to the FCC DIAGNOSTICS line,
then push the SEL button on the ECP.
4. On DCP, simultaneously push the WX button
and turn the FORMAT knob one detent.
5. Disengage the autopilot.
6. On FCP, simultaneously push any two mode
buttons and either FD button, and hold for one
second. The REPORT MODE page shows.
Push any two FCP mode buttons to cycle the
MFD display to the INPUT MODE, OUTPUT
MODE, and REPORT MODE page.
l09
How to exit FCC DIAGNOSTICS:
1. On the FCP, push and hold any three mode
buttons until the TEST annunciation (on PFD)
goes out on the selected side.
2. On the DCP, turn the FORMAT knob one
detent to show the maintenance menu.
ll0
REPORT MODE Page
1. Show the MAINTENANCE MENU page.
2. Move the cursor to the FCC DIAGNOSTICS
line, then push the SEL button, on the ECP.
3. The MFD shows instructions to access and
enter FCC DIAGNOSTICS.
RECORD ALL NON-ZERO CODES
BEFORE POWER SHUTDOWN
This page reports the status of internal monitors in
the FCC computers. Five selectable parameters
show the LEFT FCC and RIGHT FCC data. Use
the FCP mode switch buttons to select the report
mode operations. Push an FD button to show a
summary explanation of left or right code on
cursored line. Use the VS/pitch wheel to slew
parameters on the cursored line.
The Report Mode Parameter List describes each
parameter available for display. Parameter names
that denote errors indicate the total number of
errors that have occurred since power-up.
lll
Parameters that denote codes are described
below.
If any code is nonzero, use the FD buttons to
show a left or right summary screen to interpret
that code. The summary screens are dynamic
displays that show code explanations in order of
priority (top line is highest priority). If more than
one problem exists, solve the highest priority first;
related problems may also disappear. Note that
this publication also provides tables to interpret
these codes.
REPAIR CODE is an error summary of events that
occurred after power up. If the code is 000000, no
faults have been detected.
AP DIS CODE explains why the autopilot
disengaged itself. This code latches to identify the
cause of the last AP disengage.
AP ENG CODE explains why the autopilot will not
engage. This code names all conditions currently
preventing AP engage.
YD DIS CODE explains why the yaw damper
disengaged itself. This code latches to identify the
cause of the last YD disengage.
YD ENG CODE explains why the yaw damper will
not engage. This code names all conditions
currently preventing YD engage.
STEER CODE explains why flight director fail (FD)
is annunciated on the PFD. This code names all
conditions that are currently causing the flight
director to fail.
BOOST CODE explains why a rudder boost failure
was detected. This code names all conditions that
are currently causing rudder boost to fail. Rudder
boost is not used in this system.

Report Mode Monitors table describes terms and lists suspect LRUs.
l20
Report Mode Monitors
This table describes terms used in the previous Report Mode tables and
lists a "suspect LRU" that is a likely cause of the fault. Still, do not simply
replace this LRU without further testing and troubleshooting to verify the
source of the problem.
ACCMON Basic autopilot acceleration data (vertical or normal) from
the AHRS/IRS is invalid. Suspect the AHC/IRU.
ACTPOS The rudder actuator position is excessive for the current
indicated airspeed. Valid IAS data is required to make this
determination, the ACTPOS report problem also occurs
whenever IAS data is invalid. Suspect the SVL.
AHRS The serial bus from the AHRS/IRS is invalid. Suspect the
AHC/IRU or the FCC; further investigation is required.
AHRTST The AHRS (AHC) is in test mode.
ATTMON Basic autopilot pitch or roll attitude data from the AHRS/IRS
is invalid. Suspect the AHC/IRU.
BOOST A rudder boost failure is detected. This term sets with
BSTDAT or BSTMON. Suspect a failed sensor or the FCC;
further investigation is required.
BSTDAT A rudder boost input data error is detected. This means that
data from the sensors is not reasonable, or that these values
do not agree with the cross-side FCC values. The BOOST
DATERR report parameter lists the number of detected data
errors. Suspect a failed sensor or the FCC; further
investigation is required.
BSTMON A rudder boost computation error is detected. This means
that an unnecessary rudder boost occurred, or that the boost
is in the wrong direction. The BOOST ERRORS report
parameter lists the number of detected computation errors.
Suspect the FCC.
CMD-AP A servo command error is detected in the pitch or roll axis.
The I/O processor has detected an excessive servo
command rate in the pitch and/or roll axis. The CMD-P
ERRORS and CMD-R ERRORS report parameters show
how many errors have been detected in the pitch or roll axis
since power-up.
CPU The main processor has been reset. Suspect the FCC.
CROSS The cross-channel bus from the other FCC is invalid.
Suspect one of the two FCCs.
CROSTR The cross-side steering code is not zero. Check the STEER
CODE report parameter for the other FCC to determine the
cause of the FD flag. Suspect the cross-side FCC; further
investigation is required.
l2l
Report Mode Monitors (Cont)
CUT-AH An autopilot (pitch or roll) cutout hardware error is detected.
This term sets with CUT-PH or CUT-RH. Check the CUT-P
HARDW and CUT-R HARDW report parameters to isolate a
pitch or roll failure. Suspect the FCC.
CUT-O A cutout occurrence in the pitch, roll, or yaw axis is detected.
This term sets with CUT-PO, CUT-RO, or CUT-YO. Check
the CUT-P OCCUR, CUT-R OCCUR, or CUT-Y OCCUR
report parameters to isolate a pitch, roll, or yaw failure. This
does not indicate a failed unit.
CUT-PH A cutout hardware error in the pitch axis is detected.
Suspect the FCC.
CUT-PO A cutout occurrence in the pitch axis is detected. This means
that pitch attitude has exceeded certain limits. This does not
indicate a failed unit.
CUT-RH A cutout hardware error in the roll axis is detected. Suspect
the FCC.
CUT-RO A cutout occurrence in the roll axis is detected. This means
that roll attitude has exceeded certain limits. This does not
indicate a failed unit.
CUT-YH A cutout hardware error in the yaw axis is detected. Suspect
the FCC.
CUT-YO A cutout occurrence in the yaw axis is detected. This means
that yaw attitude has exceeded certain limits. This does not
indicate a failed unit.
DISAUX The stall warn system has asserted an auxiliary disconnect
command input to the FCP.
DISCKT Disengage switch circuits in the panel have failed. Suspect
the FCP. Cycle power to clear the fault message.
DISCMD An autopilot disconnect command input to the FCP is
asserted. Suspect an aircraft switch discrete input to the
FCP or the AP DISC switch bar; further investigation is
required.
EQU-AP An autopilot (pitch or roll axis) equalization error is detected.
This term sets with EQU-P or EQU-R. Check the EQZN-P
ERRORS and EQZN-R ERRORS report parameters to
isolate pitch or roll failure. Suspect one of the AHC/IRUs or
FCCs; further investigation is required.
EQU-P A pitch axis equalization error is detected. This means that
the two pitch servo commands are not tracking within certain
limits. Suspect one of the AHC/IRUs or FCCs; further
investigation is required.
l22
Report Mode Monitors (Cont)
EQU-R A roll axis equalization error is detected. This means that the
two roll servo commands are not tracking within certain
limits. Suspect one of the AHC/IRUs or FCCs; further
investigation is required.
EQU-Y A yaw axis equalization error is detected. This means that
the two yaw servo commands are not tracking within certain
limits. Suspect one of the AHC/IRUs or FCCs; further
investigation is required.
EQU-YD A yaw damper equalization error is detected. Refer to EQU-
Y. Suspect one of the AHC/IRUs or FCCs; further
investigation is required.
ID NUM The software ident numbers of the two FCCs do not match.
The first four characters of the code are the main program

Report Mode Monitors (Cont)
RUDPWR The rudder actuator has no power. This is caused by a
pulled circuit breaker, broken wiring, or activation of the limit
switch in the rudder actuator at high IAS. The RUDPWR
report problem also occurs whenever IAS data is invalid.
SSMFCS A monitor from the servo switching module (SSM) is bad,
affecting the flight control system (autopilot or yaw damper).
SSMFCS is an ORing of the SSM-AP and the SSM-YD
logic.
SSM-AP The servo switching module has detected a problem with its
switching of autopilot related data between the two pairs of
FCCs. The problem is related to switching of the pitch servo,
roll servo, and/or pitch trim system.
SSM-YD The servo-switching module has detected a problem with its
switching of yaw damper related data between the two pairs
of FCCs. The problem is related to switching of the yaw
servo.
STRP-E External aircraft strapping is not compatible with the FCC
configuration ROM. Either the IAPS configuration strapping
is incorrect or the FCC has an incorrect software version.
SVO-AP An autopilot (pitch or roll) servo amplifier error is detected.
This term sets with SVO-P or SVO-R. Refer to AMP-P
ERRORS and AMP-R ERRORS report parameters to isolate
pitch/roll error. Suspect AHC/IRU, FCC, pitch/roll servos, or
mismatched discrete inputs; further investigation is required.
SVO-P A pitch axis servo amplifier error is detected. This means
either a hardware failure occurred or that the inputs to the
two halves of the pitch servo amplifier are not alike. Suspect
the AHC/IRU, FCC, pitch servo, or mismatched discrete
inputs; further investigation is required.
SVO-R A roll axis servo amplifier error is detected. This means
either a hardware failure occurred or that the inputs to the
two halves of the roll servo amplifier are not alike. Suspect
the AHC/IRU, FCC, roll servo, or mismatched discrete
inputs; further investigation is required.
SVO-YD A yaw axis servo amplifier error is detected. This means
either a hardware failure occurred or that the inputs to the
two halves of the yaw servo amplifier are not alike. Suspect
the AHC/IRU, FCC, yaw servo, or mismatched discrete
inputs; further investigation is required.
TRIM A pitch or roll trim-system failure is detected. Check the
TRIM-P ERRORS report parameter to isolate pitch or roll
failure. Suspect the aircraft pitch/roll trim system or the FCC.
TRMANN The pitch or roll trim fail annunciator test failed. Suspect an
annunciator bulb.

Report Mode Monitors (Cont)
WRP-AP An autopilot (pitch or roll) wraparound error is detected. Look
at the WRAP-P ERRORS and WRAP-R ERRORS report
parameters to isolate the pitch or roll failure. Suspect the
FCC.
WRP-Y A wraparound error in the yaw axis is detected. Suspect the
FCC.
WRP-YD A yaw damper wraparound error is detected. Suspect the
FCC.
WSWRN A windshear condition has been detected. This includes a
windshear warning from an EGPWS/GPWS (or other
external device) and radio altitude and IAS within predefined
limits.
XSLATA There is an excessive lateral acceleration problem. The
XSLATA report occurs when there has been excessive or
invalid lateral acceleration for too long, while at a high IAS.
YD DIS The yaw damper is disengaged. The yaw damper must be
engaged before the autopilot can engage.

INPUT MODE Page
1. Show the MAINTENANCE MENU page.
2. Move the cursor to the FCC DIAGNOSTICS
line, then push the SEL button.
3. The MFD shows instructions to access and
enter FCC DIAGNOSTICS (REPORT MODE).
4. Simultaneously push any two FCP mode
buttons to select the INPUT MODE page.
The INPUT MODE page lists the input signal
information that is received by the FCC
computers. This mode is especially useful for
isolating a failed unit that supplies data to the
FCCs.
Five selectable parameters show the signal data
inputs to the LEFT FCC and RIGHT FCC. If
applicable, the unit of measure also shows. Use
the FCP mode buttons to select the input mode
operations. Use the VS/pitch wheel to change the
input signal parameter on the cursored line.
l28
The IOC labels show below the five signal lines in
both the LEFT and RIGHT columns. The label in
the LEFT column indicates which IOC-3 input bus
(IOC-LA or IOC-LB) is currently being used by the
left FCC computer. The label in the RIGHT column
indicates which IOC-3 input bus (IOC-RA or IOC-
RB) is being used by the right FCC. The operator
may switch to the other IOC bus by manually
engaging, then disengaging, the autopilot (push
AP ENG button, then lower the AP DISC bar on
the FCP). Both FCCs then use the other IOC bus,
if it is valid.
The Input Mode Parameter List shows all available
input signal parameters. The most useful inputs
are decoded, and show with a unit of measure
(such as feet or degrees) so that this value can be
easily compared with related displays/indications
in the aircraft. The SOURCE LRU column names
the unit that generates that input signal and the
source word label. This column also names the
data bus (IOC-3, AHC/IRU-1, etc.) that supplies
this information to the FCC. ARINC data words are
organized as follows:
BITS DESCRIPTION
1-8 Label (octal)
9-10 SDI (source ident)
11-13 Pad/secondary data
14-29 Primary data
30-31 SSM (status)
32 Parity bit
External (non-FCC) data shows as two input
signal parameters. One parameter is a descriptive
name, and the other is an SSMPSI parameter. The
SSMPSI parameter shows the SSM, Pad data,
and SDI values. These two parameters show all
the pertinent information in the input data word.
For example, preselect altitude information is
l29
provided in the 102 word. This information is
presented in the ALTPRE and 102 parameters.
The ALTPRE input parameter shows the preselect
altitude setting in feet. This information is decoded
from the primary data (bits 14 through 29) of word
102. Note that some primary data is not decoded
into a signal value, but instead shows as a
hexadecimal value. The unit of measure for these
signals shows as "29-14H".
The 102 input parameter shows the remaining
pertinent information in three digits. The unit entry
on this line is SSMPSI. This means the three digits
are (in order): the SSM, Pad data, and the SDI.
A typical SSM digit is 0 (failed), 1 (no computed
data), 2 (unit in test), or 3 (normal). This digit is
decoded from bits 30 and 31 of the input word.
The Pad digit lists miscellaneous information that
is normally pad (0 = not used) or secondary data.
This digit is decoded from bits 11, 12, and 13 of
the input word.
The SDI digit is 0 (not used), 1 (left LRU), 2 (right
LRU), or 3 (not used). This digit is decoded from
bits 9 and 10 of the input word.

OUTPUT MODE Page
1. Show the MAINTENANCE MENU page.
2. Move the cursor to the FCC DIAGNOSTICS
line, then push the SEL button.
3. The MFD shows instructions to access and
enter FCC DIAGNOSTICS (REPORT MODE).
4. Simultaneously push any two FCP mode
buttons to select the INPUT MODE. Repeat to
select the OUTPUT MODE.
This page lists selected outputs from the FCC
computers. These outputs may be controlled if
both FCCs are in diagnostics mode and the
aircraft is on the ground.
Five selectable parameters show the output
signals from the LEFT FCC and RIGHT FCC. If an
output can be changed, the MODIFY column
shows on the right side. Use the FCP mode
buttons to select the output mode operations. Use
the VS/pitch wheel to change the output signal
parameter on the cursored line.
l3?
The Output Mode Parameter List describes each
parameter. This table lists a signal description and
modification range for each parameter.
The FCC outputs always show, but they can only
be controlled when both computers are in
diagnostic mode (use both FD buttons on the
FCP; TEST annunciates on both PFDs). If it is
possible to control (modify) an output, the word
MODIFY shows as a column heading. If the active
(cursored) line can be modified, then EITHER,
BOTH, LEFT, or RIGHT shows on that line in the
MODIFY column.
Note that the EITHER and BOTH modify options
are not available unless both FCCs are in the
OUTPUT MODE (not just in diagnostics). Push the
XFR button (on FCP) to alternately select left- and
right-side display data to make sure that both
FCCs are in output mode.
When EITHER shows in the MODIFY column, the
left and right FCC logic outputs can be modified
independently. Push the left FD button, on the
FCP, to change the logic output of the left FCC.
Push the right FD button to change the logic
output of the right FCC.
When BOTH shows in the MODIFY column, the
left and right FCC linear outputs can be modified
synchronously. Push and hold the left FD button,
on the FCP, to synchronize both linear outputs to
the master FCC value, then change both outputs
in a minus direction. Push and hold the right FD
button to synchronize both linear outputs to the
master FCC value, then change both outputs in a
plus direction. The master FCC is the one that
supplies display data to the MFD (indicated by the
arrow on the center of the page and selected by
the XFR button on FCP).
l38
When LEFT shows in the MODIFY column, only
the left FCC output can be modified. When RIGHT
shows in the MODIFY column, only the right FCC
can be modified. Push an FD button, on the FCP,
to change the modifiable output.
The display source indicator (arrow) points left or
right to indicate which FCC supplies display data
to the MFD. In the output mode, this indicator is
especially useful. Both FCCs must be in the output
mode (not just in diagnostics) to fully utilize the
modify options. Since only one FCC supplies
display data to the MFD, it is helpful to push the
XFR button, on the FCP, and check the selected
mode of the other FCC before beginning
troubleshooting effort using the output mode. The
arrow also indicates the (controlling) master FCC
when both outputs are synchronously changed.
The output mode can be used to drive the servos.
First, set the 65APMN, 65YDMN, 86APEN, and
86YDMN parameters to TRUE. This sets the FCC
internal monitors to a valid condition. Then set the
AILCUT, ELECUT, and RUDCUT parameters to
FALSE. This sets the FCC cutout logic so that the
system can engage. Next, engage the yaw
damper and autopilot. Select the AILCMD (or
ELECMD/RUDCMD) parameter and move the
cursor to this line. Push the left or right FD button
to apply a servo command voltage. The control
wheel (or control column/rudder pedals) should
move as the servo runs. Note that the AP, YD, and
CUT parameters must remain set as described
above or the system will not engage.

may reduce the rudder servo error
voltages to within tolerance.
Recommendations:
If, during the above test, the rudder servo error
(RSVOER) is not correct for the right or the left
side, a problem with the SVL-4000, FCC-4006, or
a wiring problem can be expected.
1. Swap the FCCs. Do the tests again and see if
the same results are observed. If the same
results are observed, then continue to step 2.
If the incorrect reading changes sides, replace
the FCC that is providing the incorrect results.
2. On the side (left or right) with the failed
results, use a meter to check the wiring
between the FCC and the SVL for continuity
and shorts. If no wiring problems are found,
replace the SVL and perform the test again.
l46

Exit Diagnostics
Be sure to exit the diagnostic systems properly. It
is important to ensure that related systems are
taken out of test or diagnostic modes before flight.
An exit procedure is provided below.
EXIT FCC DIAGNOSTICS:
If FCC DIAGNOSTICS were used, be sure to exit
these diagnostics first. If these diagnostics were
not used, skip this step. Note: If both FCCs are in
diagnostics mode, exit both sides.
1. Show any FCC DIAGNOSTIC page.
2. On FCP, simultaneously push any three mode
buttons until TEST annunciation (on PFD)
goes out on selected side.
3. Make sure both FCCs are not in test mode.
The TEST annunciation does not show on
either PFD.
4. On DCP, turn the FORMAT knob to show the
MAINTENANCE MENU page.
EXIT MAINTENANCE MENU:
Always perform these steps after using MDC.
1. Locate the MFD2/MFD1/OFF switch behind
the pilot's seat. Set this switch to the OFF
position.
2. If preparing for shutdown, remove power from
all avionics systems.
