GOAL: Instead of solving quadratic equations like x 2 + 8 x + 12 = 0 , we want to solve quadratic inequalities like x 2 + 8 x + 12 < 0 . Question (a): Is x = 1 a solution to x 2 + 8 x + 12 < 0 ? Question (b): Is x = 2 a solution to x 2 + 8 x + 12 < 0 ? Question (c): Is x = 3 a solution to x 2 + 8 x + 12 < 0 ? So when asked to solve x 2 + 8 x + 12 < 0 , you want to find: _____________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________. But we dont need an accurate sketch to solve the quadratic inequalities! Heres a shorter way to go about it with just a rough sketch Example 1: Solve: x 2 2 x + 15 < 0 (a) How many x-intercepts are there for y = x 2 2 x + 15 ? If there are any x-intercepts, where are they?
