INSPIRATION
The floating house is designed by architect Robert Harvey Oshatz, completed in 2005, One can accesses the deck through a sliding glass door and the expansive glass front embraces the river. The curvilinear forms create spacial differentiation that enhance the experience of time as light plays through the daily and seasonal changes.
LOCATION
The location is Fuji River, Japan
CONCEPT
70%-80% of Japan is forested and mountainous. Because of that, weather in Japan is very cold with heavy rain and usually have risk of landslides caused by earthquakes. Thus, Japanese people live very friendly with the nature and the environment around them. Luxury term of Japanses is enjoying the beauty of nature around them as a part of their life. The idea is combining the Japanese tradition and modern as well as bringing the richness of nature into the house, especially sun light and sun heat.
SKETCHES
Traditional Japanese Tearoom layout
In the evening, the light from candles and fireplace will be reflected through the mirror wall, so that it will make the room brighter. The fireplace is lower than the floor to allow people putting their feet down instead of sitting on their knees Dark Cherry Wood
Fire Place
The room is facing North-South, so sun light is mainly coming into the room from the right hand side. The wooden beams are like a vinitien blind that helps to avoid the glare.
Mirror Tiles
visual
The timber framework support the floor slab and lift up the upper slab. The room in between 2 layers can be used for storage

Isen Cafe
The sliding chair allows people to move easily on the floor. It provides a comfortable sitting position, compared to the traditional position. The back is flexible and follows the curve of human back Aluminium
Sliding chai allows people to move easily when sitting. The table can fit a small tea set for tea performance or a small portable gas cooker for hot pot or grilled dishes in family dinner.

THE MALL
359 Upper Street, Islington, London N1 0PD
Isen Cafe
BRIEF
The Mall located at the very heart of Islington town centre, close to Islington Green. It was originally a tram shed and then converted into an antique market in 1979. Nowadays, the mall is mostly emty and it is used for rent to the retail shops.
You are required to remodel the existing structure of the building to suit the London weather. The aim of the project is to reflect the methods of rainwater harvesting which has been derived from the traditional house typology in your country.
The diagram above shows how the building can harvest grey water and the collecting points

Collecting points
The diagram shows the drainage system and the collecting points of new roof. Then the pipes inside the structure will bring grey water to the specific points of the building
interior
Isen Cafe
Inspired from the flexibility of bamboo, the structure and pipes are also bended to hold up the roof. The material can be transparent such as polycarbonate, so we can see how the water is going down
piggy stool
Furniture Design
zebra stool
The inspiration was from small toys for kids. Kids really like soft toys and treat them as friends. Children aged 3-6 start to learn everything they see from parents, from cartoons, from nature, etc. Therefore, products for kids usually modify the cartoon characters, family characters or animals with bight colours to catch their eyes
When unrolling the stool, it will become a set of blanket and toys inside pockets of the blanket. Then, each pig can be untied again to become a soft pillow. Colour and size can be varied for boys and girls with different ages.
