MURRAY
Peter A. Murray is a national of St. Lucia, receiving his secondary education at St. Marys College. He received his Bachelor of Science (General) degree from the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill Campus) in 1977, majoring in Biology. Mr. Murray was awarded the degree of Master of Philosophy in Biology, also by the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill Campus) in 1991. Mr. Murray also has acquired a Diploma in International Environmental Law from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). Peter A. Murray was employed as a Graduate Teacher at St. Marys College in St. Lucia from 1977 to 1981 where he taught Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to the middle forms, and coached the school cricket team. Mr. Murray was involved in the development of the curriculum for Integrated Science under the auspices of the Caribbean Examinations Council. He also taught Physics for three years in the Castries Comprehensive Secondary Schools night class programme; and Physics, Biology, and Human and Social Biology in the St. Lucia (UWI) Guild of Graduates night class programme for a further five years. He has also taught Science, for two years, as part of Saint Lucias in-service teacher training programme. He has freelanced as a journalist for two of Saint Lucias newspapers, in addition to hosting the Guild of Graduates programme The Guild Speaks on Radio Saint Lucia in the mid-1980s and hosted a jazz programme on that same radio station. In addition to writing poetry, since 1976, Mr. Murray has been writing and producing calypso and soca music, during Saint Lucias carnival season, since 2000. Peter A. Murray worked as the senior Fisheries Biologist (with responsibility for Resource Assessment) at Saint Lucias Department of Fisheries, from April of 1981, before joining the staff of the OECS Fisheries Unit as Data Management Officer in October of 1991. With the closure of the Fisheries Unit in December of 1995, he joined the OECS Natural Resources Management Unit (now Environment and Sustainable Development Unit) in Saint Lucia as a Programme Officer in January 1996. He is primarily responsible for marine resource management matters (including maritime boundary delimitation) and currently leads the OECS Secretariats new Sustainable Oceans Governance programme. He takes the lead on Climate Change activities, as well as helping to coordinate public education and environmental awareness activities. Mr. Murray is active in facilitating strategic planning and training in project proposal writing; and, is also a member of the OECS Secretariats Post Disaster Macro-socioeconomic Assessment team. Peter A. Murray, who writes extensively on marine resource management issues, has been a member of the Network of Tropical Fisheries Scientists since 1984. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute, from 1989 to 1996 and from 1999 to 2008.
