Compliance Officer Director of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance Regulatory March 2012 Exempt (salary)

This individual will ensure that the Company is conducting business in accordance with government regulations regarding export compliance. This requires the individual to be involved with and review orders on a daily basis for any restrictions regarding the customer, the product, or the country. In addition, the individual will work closely with other departments to ensure compliance in non-product shipments. Also ensures that personnel involved with order processing are trained annually in government regulations. Occasional travel will be required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Conducts compliance checks on all outgoing orders, domestic and international, as part of the Supply Chain order workflow process to ensure that all export regulations are followed. Ensures that all required documentation, communications, and legal requirements are accomplished for product shipping to both domestic and international customers. Ensures that files are kept of all documents in an orderly and timely manner. Ensures that intellectual property or any other item subject to export regulations are shipped in accordance with these regulations. This may include, but is not limited to: dossiers, seeds, samples, and isolates. Works closely with Shipping and Customer Service departments to ensure that any items shipped have the appropriate paperwork completed correctly (Form 2017 Export Certificate). Processes OFAC registrations to receive permission to ship to countries on the Embargoed Countries List. Identify and communicate potential problems effectively in a timely manner to supervisor. Determines trans values of product in compliance with NAFTA regulations; Ensures that the Automated Export System requirements are completed. Maintains Compliance Manual to ensure that Company has an identified process for following regulations and that the Schedule B codes are up to date. Ensures that training in compliance is conducted company wide as appropriate. This may be in-house training with an outside consultant or external training programs covering USDA, FDA, and Department of Commerce regulations. Maintain relationship with consultant and seek advice from consultant when appropriate. Conducts internal audits to verify that systems in place are functional and that Customer Service and Distribution files meet government regulations. Evaluate need and maintain a relationship with a consultant. Conducts compliance checks on all new customers Receive and review autogenous isolate forms, apply for appropriate permissions from state veterinarians, and update spreadsheet. Create and maintain SOPs of processes. Provide month end activity reports. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: A Bachelors Degree in Business with a minimum of one (1) year of experience in compliance is required. In lieu of degree, years of experience may be substituted providing there is representative knowledge and experience in interpreting government regulations and compliance. Must have excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain good interdepartmental relationships. Requires proficiency in business writing and sound math skills along with ability to analyze data, excellent communication, and good decision making skills.
