suction size of single pump or multiple pumps operating at 150% of rated capacity, guage pressure of suction flange 0 psi & the velocity of in that portion within 10 pipe dia upto 15ft/sec. Exception guage pressure at suction flange allowed to drop upto -3psi for supply from suction tank at same elevation Bypass should be provided with pump if sufficient pressure supplied by Supply. OS&Y gate valve need to be installed in suction line, no other then OS&Y shall be installed within 50 ft in suction line. Double removal intake screen provided at suction from pound or wet pit. Effective net area opening 1 in. 1/2" mesh & No. 10 B&S of corrosion resistant metals. Over all area of screen shall be 1.6 times the net screen opening area. 1) No Device & assembly shall be installed in suction piping. Exception#1 2-9.5. Exception#2 backflow preventions permitted by other NFPA standerds. Exception#3 Flow control valve permitted in suction pipe 2) alarm indication for drop of level or pump suction pressure form minimum. vortex plate installed at entrance of suction pipe of stored water supply. Size of discharge piping and fittings listed in table 2-20 Check valve & back flow preventor installed at pump discharge. Gate or butterfly valve install on pump discharge, when pump in series, butterfly valve shall not be installed between pumps. valve controlling and supervision. Exception closed supervision clearnce not less then 1 inch provided when pipe passes through walls & floors relief valve shall be provided for diesel engine driven pump Relief valve sizes shown in table 2-20 relief valve shall be located b/w pump and pump discharge vlave and easy to remove. PRV shall be listed spring-loaded or pilot-operated diaphram type. PRV is to arrange in such manner that water unable to relief below set pressure. Relief valve discharge into open pipe or cone, discharge water shall be detectable. Relief valve sizes shown in table 2-20, more then one elbow in line use next larger pipe size. when relief valve piped back to supply, valve and pipe have sufficient capcity not to incress pressure in line. drain pipe shall discharge in reservior of limited capacity, away from suction point. No shut off valve in supply or discharge line. Relief valve discharge piping shall not be combined with other discharge of RV. metering device shall be capable to operate at 175% of rated pump capacity. meter system piping does not exceed 100ft equivalent length, if metering system exceeds 100ft, next larger pipe size shall be use to minimize friction losses. hose valve header located away from pump, listed valve shall be install in line close to pump. if length increses between hose valve and pump increses then use next larger size of pipe. Exception pipe is permitted to size at 150% of flow based on hydraulic calculation. each pump shall be hydrostatcially test not less 5 min. Test pressure not less then 250 psi. Pressure maintenance pump shall have sufficient pressure to maintain desired fire protection system pressure. check valve shall be installed in discharge pipe. relief valve sized to prevent over pressuring of the system shall install on pump. primary or standby pumps shall not be used as pressure maintenance pump. Drain of relief valve attached to backflow preventor shall be design appropiately for maximum flow. Discharge of RV should be visible.
