The most challenging piece of work for me was my Masters dissertation, which was biased on the Power Factor

Correction in non-linear loads. I used the automatic reactive power compensator technique to improve the power factor in a non-linear load. When simulating the project on PSPICE software I was achieving 90% power factor, however the practical model only achieved a 75% power factor. After discovering this problem I conducted some research and found out that the automatic reactive power compensator that I used contained the switching technique which resulted in switching losses and these losses were ignored by the PSPICE software. To overcome this I designed a tune filter to compensate for these losses which then brought the power factor from 75% to 95%.

I started work at Argos as a member of a group who were responsible for transferring the delivered stock to the shelves and keeping in sync with the demands of the customers. I organised the workers with what they need to do and helped while still doing my part. By being a hard worker and cheerful person I set a good example to my fellow employees which lead to them working just as hard as me. My hard work and leadership result in an increase in the standard of service in the shop which was measured by the annual mystery customer survey. I was also promoted within 6 months to being the team leader of the larger group and I continue to keep standards high.

I admire that Tube lines have set out to become more environmentally friendly and reduce their carbon footprint. Studying Sustainable Electrical Power for my masters has made me even more passionate about the environment and how we could use sustainable energy effectively in the modern world. By working in Tube lines it will give me the chance to work on one of the world's largest capital infrastructure programmes in transport. This would give me the opportunity to not only gather valuable experience but also improve my knowledge. By working for a company which controls three main lines it would give me a chance to affect the millions of people who use the underground every day.

After completing my Diploma in Electronics & communications engineering I became a trainee engineer at Inoweave Pvt Ltd in India. During my stay I was assisting in producing a temperature controller. I discovered that the sensor within the controller would stop working after exceeding a certain temperature. I decided to do some research on other sensors but soon concluded that by replacing the current sensor it would mean we would go over our budget. To overcome this I suggested that we modified the original circuit with the use of microcontroller technology and make it work at a fixed temperature.

The graduate scheme that Transport for London have offered is the perfect scheme for me as I am passionate about Electrical Engineering, it also gives me a chance to gain valuable and rare experience in the field and enables me widen my knowledge further. By doing this scheme I feel it would give fresh graduates like me a chance to apply my skills effectively. I admire that TFL have set out to become more environmentally friendly and reduce their carbon footprint. Studying Sustainable Electrical Power for my masters has made me even more passionate about the

environment and how we could use sustainable energy effectively in the modern world. I have had one year experience with Inoweave Pvt Ltd where I was working as a trainee engineer. During my stay I was responsible for designing and testing of products such as a temperature controller and air condition controllers. During the year I realised that I had a thriving interest and passion for engineering and this encouraged me to pursue a career in Electrical Engineering.

During my master degree I was set two deadlines for my dissertation, one was for the simulation of my project and for the practical version of my project. My project was biased on the Power Factor Correction in non-linear loads. The basic aim for the project was to build an automatic reactive power compensator circuit to improve the power factor in linear and non-linear loads. From this research I found the impact of a linear and non-linear loads have on the power system, I was also able to identify the advantages of improving the power factor in a non-linear load. Knowing that the project was very important and that the deadline was getting close it gave me a push and motivated me to complete it at high standards within the given time. The outcome of the project was that after the simulation I got a 90% improvement in the power factor but in the practical version I only got 75%. Looking back the one thing that is instead of using the automatic reactive power compensator on its own, instead I would also design a tuning filter to compensate for the switching losses produced by the automatic reactive power compensator.

After completing my Diploma in Electronics & communications engineering I became a trainee engineer at Inoweave Pvt Ltd. During my stay I was assisting in producing a temperature controller. I discovered that the sensor within the controller would stop working after exceeding a certain temperature. My first thought was to change the sensor and use one which would have a higher limit. I went to go and speak to my line manager about my idea with a friendly and optimistic attitude and he reacted positively to my idea and said I should go speak to the finance department. When I spoke to them they said that if we were to get a different sensor it would exceed the budget. To overcome this I suggested that we modified the original circuit with the use of microcontroller technology and make it work at a fixed temperature. I proposed my idea in the next meeting, while speaking I could see that everyone was impressed and fascinated by my idea. After the proposal I as given the responsibility to produce and test this modified circuit which in the end worked well.

I have a particular interest in Sustainable Power Generation, Power System Analysis and Security and Power System Stability and Control. In this day and age where the environment is very important I feel these three modules are essential for any Electrical Engineer to have. Now most organisations such as TFL are looking to become more sustainable and environmentally friendly which adds onto the importance of these three modules.
