DEAN OF GRADUATE STUDIES SPRING RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION

Eligibility Criteria: Full-time graduate students are eligible to apply for a one-time Dean of Graduate Studies Spring Research Fellowship during the course of his/her programs defined funding period. Students are eligible to receive the award once within their Masters program and once within their Doctoral program. Students are not eligible to apply if they currently hold an external scholarship (e.g., NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR, OGS ..). The $3,000 fellowship will be awarded on a competitive basis to students who are in good academic standing on the basis of the submission of a research proposal/plan pertaining to the upcoming Spring term. The fellowships are designed to support full-time research during the period from May to August, in order to assist students in the timely completion of his/her programs major research requirement. Sixty fellowships will be awarded following the review of all eligible applications. Application process: Student must complete and attach the required documentation and submit their complete application package to their Supervisor for comment. Supervisor must complete Section II and forward the complete application package to the Graduate Program Director by 12:00 noon Monday, March 12, 2012. Graduate Program Director must complete Section III and submit the complete application package to the Faculty of Graduate Studies by 12:00 noon Monday, March 19, 2012.

Students Attachments: (two page attachment) Page 1 - A one-page typed research proposal/plan of the research you will complete during the Spring 2012 term (May-August). Do not provide a summary of your entire research project if you are not completing your entire project in one term (Spring 2012). You should focus your proposal for this competition on only the portion of the research you will accomplish during the Spring 2012 term. You may and should describe how the discrete portion you will accomplish over Spring 2012 fits into your overall research project. This application will be adjudicated by individuals who may be outside of your discipline and therefore the description of your research should be written in clear, plain language which avoids jargon. The proposal/plan may not exceed one sided 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper, must be single-spaced with three-quarter inch margins, and 12 pt Times New Roman font. Page 2 - One page that lists university scholarships, academic and research awards and any other research contributions and developments. (e.g., publications, reports, presentations, posters) Supervisors Comments: Please comment on whether the research proposal specified in this application, is to your knowledge, accurate and implementable as a discrete research component that can be completed within the Spring 2012 term (which the DGS Spring Research Fellowship would support). Please also comment briefly on the strength of the research proposal and the strength of the student as a researcher.
