Step 4: Cengure yeur Mac8eek Pre witb Setup Assistant.
lhe 6rst time you turn on your Vacbook Pro, Setup Assistant starts. Setup Assistant
helps you enter your lnternet and email information and set up a user account on your
Vacbook Pro. lf you already have a Vac, Setup Assistant can help you automatically
transfer 6les, applications, and other information from your previous Vac using an
lthernet or wireless connection. See the next section, "Vigrating lnformation to our
Vacbook Pro,' for more information.
lf you don't intend to keep or use your other Vac, it's best to deauthorize it from
playing music, videos, or audiobooks that you've purchased from the ilunes Store.
0eauthorizing a computer prevents any songs, videos, or audiobooks you've purchased
from being played by someone else and frees up another authorization for use. lor
information about deauthorizing, choose ilunes lelp from the lelp menu in ilunes.

Mgratng |nformaton to our Mac8ook Pro
ou can follow the prompts in Setup Assistant to migrate existing user accounts, 6les,
applications, and other information from another Vac computer. ou can do this with
one of the following methods.
Using a lirewire cable to connect the two computers together and transfer the
information
Using an lthernet cable connected directly between both computers, or connecting
both computers to the same network
wirelesslydirectly between both computers, or with both computers on the same
wireless network
before performing migration, use Software Update on your other Vac. lhe other Vac
should have one of these versions of Vac OS \ softwareeither Vac OS \ v10.4.11 or
Vac OS \ v10.5.6 (or later).
ou can choose the items (user accounts, documents, movies, music, photos, and so on)
that you want to migrate to your Vacbook Pro.
lmortont: 0on't use the other Vac for anything else until the migration is complete.
lf you don't use Setup Assistant to transfer information when you 6rst start up, you can
do it later using Vigration Assistant. lf the connection is terminated during migration,
you can resume the migration at a later time using Vigration Assistant on your
Vacbook Pro and your other Vac. Co to the Applications folder, open Utilities, and
double-click Vigration Assistant.

ou can quickly customize the desktop using System Preferences. Choose
Apple () > System Preferences from the menu bar or click the System Preferences
icon in the 0ock. System Preferences is your command center for most settings
on your Vacbook Pro. lor more information, open Vac lelp and search for "System
Preferences' or for the speci6c preference you want to change.
Putting our Mac8ook Pro to Sleep or Shutting |t Down
when you 6nish working with your Vacbook Pro, you can put it to sleep or shut
it down.
Puttng our Mac8ook Pro to S|ee
lf you'll be away from your Vacbook Pro for only a short time, put it to sleep. when
the computer is in sleep, you can quickly wake it and bypass the startup process.
1o ut your Mac8ook Pro to s|ee, do one of the fo||owng:
m Close the display.
m Choose Apple () > Sleep from the menu bar.
m Press the power () button and click Sleep in the dialog that appears.
m Choose Apple () > System Preferences, click lnergy Saver, and set a sleep timer.
NO7lCf: wait a few seconds until the sleep indicator light starts pulsing (indicating
that the computer is in sleep and the hard disk has stopped spinning) before you
move your Vacbook Pro. Voving your computer while the hard disk is spinning can
damage it, causing loss of data or the inability to start up from the hard disk.

when your Vacbook Pro wakes from sleep, your applications, documents, and
computer settings are exactly as you left them.
Shuttng Down our Mac8ook Pro
lf you aren't going to use your Vacbook Pro for a couple of days or longer, it's best to
shut it down. lhe sleep indicator light goes on briey during the shutdown process.
1o shut down your Mac8ook Pro, do one of the fo||owng:
m Choose Apple () > Shut 0own from the menu bar.
m Press the power () button and click Shut 0own in the dialog that appears.
lf you plan to store your Vacbook Pro for an extended period of time, see page 73 for
information about how to prevent the battery from draining completely.
