Males and females play important roles in a society. They have their own or have built their own different images compared to one another. For me, men are perceived as lordly compared to women. They were believed as the ones who are in the higher position in the society. In a family, men or fathers are called to be the HEAD in the family. We all know that a family is the basic unit of a society. So, if a man is the head of a family, which means superiority over the other family members, what more in a society. In a company or other institutions, men are more preferred to be leaders. But, this is of course the frame of reference of a man in general. Years had passed and these had some changes. Also, their superiorities sometimes went beyond to what is morally right. Like in Mills of the Gods, although the father there is doing something that is morally wrong, he still stays and go home from time to time without being prejudiced. Why? It is because of the superiority thingy that goes with the title of being a man. For a society, it is better that a man would go and stay with his family, though he is doing something wrong, rather than let this family be ruined. But, this is discriminating the women. Women, in contrary, are the ones who are less dominant in the society. They were the people who are believed to be the ones whose role is to support the men. They follow men. Again, in a family, women or mothers are the ones who were left at home and take in charge of taking care of the family. They are the ones who make sure that everything is doing well in the family. Usually, women are unemployed because of these roles that they had to perform. And just like men, after times had passed, their roles had been through some changes. One more thing, there are women who have established their own name or have made their own impact in a society. Like Angela Manalang-Gloria, she is the first Filipina who made name in literature. Aquino, the first Filipina president. This only indicated that women can sometimes do better than men, which most of the time are being ignored. Also nowadays, women are being employed. And, in some unusual cases, some men are left at homes. These had been resulted by some changes in culture. If before, women are just in charge in in taking care of the family and managing the house now, they went outside their boxes. They are now exploring and discovering the other side of them. And now men are sometimes giving ways for these opportunities to women. Men let women to speak out or open up some brand new ideas. Both of them are needed to complete a society. Despite these differences, they are to complement each others imperfections. If theres no man there will be no woman. If theres no woman there will be no man. If one of them does not exist what will happen to the society? There will be no mothers, fathers, families. Since, weve started the topic of a family why dont we talk about the roles of a man and woman in a family. Lets have my family for example. Yes, my father, being the man, is the head of the family. He provides our needs. He makes decisions. But, these decisions are not merely being made by him. Here my mom comes in to the picture. When it comes to decisions, it is not solely decided by my father. They, my mom and dad, will talk about it. This is to contradict the image of a woman in general wherein the woman just takes in charge of managing the house and taking good care of the family. And although that my dad is the primary provider of the family, my mom always finds ways on how she can help dad in providing our needs. Dad let her to do this. Dad knows that everything had changed. Those women are not just to be ignored when it comes to things like this. They can speak up and bring up ideas. Therefore, women should not be treated as someone that is under men. Or, men must not be connoted as someone who is over these women. Everyone are equal and can do things together that will either complement or supplement each other.
