Sing God Cares for You

(Tune The Farmer in the Dell) God cares for you and me, God cares for you and me, He made us, and we are His, God cares for you and me.
ETC teachers can use these activities to fill in during transition or waiting times or for
a change of pace as needed.They do not require bringing extra materials to ETC. Copy and mail the front and back of this page to each ETC teacher along with the appropriate weekly pages.
God Is Special
During March, kindergartners will grow in their understanding that no one else is like God or can do what God does.
Clap a Bible Verse

Lead kindergartners in saying the Bible verse Do what God says. Deuteronomy 5:32 as a group. Next, lead them to clap each syllable as they say the verse. Continue repeating the Bible verse with different motions or sounds, such as snapping fingers or tapping feet, with each syllable. Adapt this for any week by using the Bible verse listed for that weeks session.
Tip: Notice Creation

Lead kindergartners to notice the trees budding and the flowers blooming in your areabeautiful things that God made.
Kids and Missions

Sometimes when 5-year-old Katie Rogers watches TV, she sees someone she knowsmaybe even her mom. Her mother, Victorya, is a North American Mission Board missionary to Hollywood. She tells actors and actresses and other entertainers about Jesus. One of Katies favorite Bible stories is the story of Zacchaeus because Zacchaeus let Jesus come to his house. Katies mom sometimes has to travel to other peoples houses so that she can tell them about Jesus. Katie understands how important it is that her mother travel. Katie may be an entertainer someday. She loves to sing. She even sings her prayers at mealtime! Pray for Katies family as they show Gods love to entertainers. To learn more about North American missions, visit www.namb.net.

Activities
Paint the Sun, Moon, and Stars

Give each child a set of watercolor paints, a sheet of dark-colored construction paper, and a painting smock or shirt. Guide the children to paint the sun, moon, and stars. Tell the Bible story God Created the World as children paint.
Finger Play: I Can Choose

I can choose to clap my hands. I can choose to touch my nose. I can choose to nod my head. I can choose to touch my toes. I can choose to blink my eyes. I can choose to turn around. I can choose to wave to you. I can choose to sit right down. Select four kindergartners to name an action to substitute into the rhyme. Each child can complete a line of the stanza: I can choose to _____. The lines probably will not rhyme.
Make a List
If there is a window in your room, lead kindergartners to the window or an area of your church where they can see outside. Print on a list as many things as they can name that God made. Congratulate kindergartners on their accomplishment.
Play a Sound Game

Explain to kindergartners that you will lead them in a sound game. Explain that you will make the sound of an animal that God made. Then you will ask: What do you hear? and they will guess. Allow kindergartners to take turns making different animal sounds. If a child needs a suggestion of an animal sound to make, suggest one of the following: bird, lion, dog, turkey, pig, and elephant. If you want to tie this game to the Bible story for the week, say that you will make the sound of an animal that the person in the Bible story might have heard. Ask the question: What did Adam and Eve hear? What did Noah hear? What did Abram hear? What did Jacob hear?
Play a Counting Game

Say: God created everything in six days. On the seventh day He rested. Begin a counting game by standing in a circle. Count aloud together the number of children standing in the circle. Move two children to the middle of the circle. Ask: How many are left? Count aloud to check their answer. Continue to play by adding or removing kindergartners from the circle. If you have a large number of children, play in two circles with a teacher in each circle.

1 Snack
After kindergartners wash their hands, ask volunteers to assist with the snack. Pray a simple thank-you prayer. As they eat, ask: What did God make that you are most thankful for?
2 Move to Group Time

After eating, ask kindergartners to clean up the snack area and then move like their favorite animal to group time.

4 Talk About the Bible Story

Open your Bible to Genesis 1 and tell todays Bible story. In the beginning, God decided to create a beautiful world. On the first day, God said, Let there be light. God called the light day. Then He said, Let the darkness be called night. On the second day, God took some of the water on the earth and created the clouds and sky. God left the rest of the water on the earth. On the third day, God said, Let the waters on the earth gather together, and let the dry land appear. God called the dry land earth and the gathered water the seas. That day, God also made every kind of tree and flower each with its own kind of seed. On the fourth day, God created the sun, moon, and stars. The moon and stars shone at night. The sun shone in the day. On the fifth day, God said, Let the waters and the sky be filled with many kinds of living things. So God created the animals of the sea and birds that fly. On the sixth day, God made all of the earth animals and crawling creatures. Then God made people! He made a man and a woman. God gave the man and the woman choices. He planned for them to care for the plants and animals. God wanted them to use and enjoy all the things He had made. At the end of the sixth day, God looked at the earth, the sky, the oceans, the rivers, the dry land, the sun, the moon, the stars, and all living things. He was very pleased with what He had created. On the seventh day, God chose to rest from His work.

5 Say a Bible Verse

Print the Bible verse In the beginning God created the world on a sheet of paper. Say: Our Bible verse has seven words, and God created the world and rested in seven days. Ask kindergartners to hold up a finger each time you repeat the Bible verse together; repeat it several times.
6 Pray
Lead kindergartners in sentence prayers. Ask volunteers to pray: Thank You, God, for ________.
7 Play in Bible-Learning Activities

Todays activities will lead kindergartners to notice and understand that God created the world and everything in it. A Make wall art. Give each kindergartner a sheet of paper with a number between 1 and 7 written in the right-hand corner. Lead each child to draw a picture of something God made or did on that particular day. Use the Bible story points on the other side of this page as a guide. Help each child remember what God created on his/her assigned day. After pictures are completed, tape them in order to a wall. Say: Look at the wonderful things God made. B Build with blocks. Say: God created the world and everything in it. Can you use the blocks to make the shape of something God made? Invite children to re-form the blocks to make the shape of something else God created. C Recall the Bible story. Place different colors of scrap paper into a paper bag. Lead kindergartners to take turns drawing a paper scrap from the bag. Ask them to name something God made that is the same color. D Make explorer bags. Provide each child with two paper plates, a 15-inch piece of yarn, tape, and crayons. Say: We can explore the world God made. Cut one paper plate in half. Make a pocket bag by taping the half plate to the uncut plate. Attach the yarn with tape to make a shoulder strap. Children can color their bags.
8 Clean Up
Give specific cleanup responsibilities to each kindergartner. Say: God wants us to keep our world clean.
9 Sing a Song
Sing (tune If Youre Happy): (1) Did you know that God takes care of little birds? (Repeat.) We can see them flying high, When we look up in the sky. Did you know that God takes care of little birds? (2) Did you know that God takes care of little flowers? (Repeat.) They are beautiful to see, When they grow so wild and free. Did you know that God takes care of little flowers? (3) Did you know that God takes care of people, too? (Repeat.) God gives us what we need, Because He loves you and me. Did you know that God takes care of people, too?
10 Dismiss
Follow your churchs policy to dismiss kindergartners. Send home todays Kindergarten Connection weekly page.

Lead children to wash their hands. Ask for volunteers to distribute the snack. Remind kindergartners to thank those who are serving them. When children finish the snack, say: We can choose to do the right thing and clean our snack area.

Play a lively tune from a CD to lead kindergartners to group time.

Tell the story. Talk about Adam and Eves choices. God created man and put him in a garden called Eden. God told the man, You may eat the fruit of any tree that is in the garden except one tree. Do not eat the fruit of that tree. God created a woman to help the man. The man and woman were Adam and Eve. Eve looked at the fruit on one tree, the tree that God told them not to choose. Eve knew what God had said. But she chose to disobey God. She took some of the fruit and ate it. She gave some to Adam. Adam chose to disobey God, too. He ate the fruit. God made Adam and Eve able to choose. They chose to disobey. After Adam and Eve chose to disobey, God made them clothes out of skins. They had to leave the garden of Eden. But God still loved Adam and Eve. He showed them where they should go to live. After Adam and Eve left the garden, they had two sons, Cain and Abel. Cain grew food for animals and his family. Abel took care of sheep. God loved Adam and Eve. God loved Cain and Abel.

5 Say a Bible Verse

Print on an index card each word of the verse God made us, and we are His. Psalm 100:3. Place the cards in a paper sack. Call on each child to pick a card from the bag. Guide children to bring their cards up in the correct order and place them on the floor. Read the Bible verse together.

6 Pray
Thank God for making the kindergartners. Ask God to help them choose to obey Him.

Remind kindergartners that God made us able to make choices. As they play, praise them when they make right choices. Remind kindergartners that God always loves them, whatever their choices. A Draw and trade. Comment: God made us, and we are His. He made us able to choose. Distribute paper and markers or watercolor paints. Tell the three or four kindergartners at the table to draw anything they wish. They must choose one color to begin with. When you say Trade, they must trade colors or choose a different color. Continue the activity until each child has used several colors. B Choose a puzzle. Provide various puzzles. Invite each child to choose a puzzle to complete. Tell todays Bible story as kindergartners work the puzzles. Remind kindergartners that God always loves them. C Build the garden. Place various colors of paper in the blocks center. Suggest that kindergartners lay out a garden. They might tear blue paper to make a river through the garden. They can drape blocks with green paper to be hills. They can draw or tear bushes and trees and tape them to blocks. Remind them to include a special tree with fruit. Observe that God made a beautiful place for Adam and Eve to live. D Make a garden mural. Tape a large sheet of paper to the wall at kindergarten eye level. Spread crayons on the floor beneath the paper. Ask: Where did Adam and Eve disobey God? Direct the children to draw a beautiful garden like the one where Adam and Eve lived.
8 Clean Up
Encourage kindergartners to make a right choice by cleaning up the activity area. Praise them for their efforts.
9 Make a List
On a large sheet of paper or marker board, print I Make a Right Choice When I . . . . Challenge kindergartners to make a long list of right choices such as eat good food, obey my mother, and put away toys. Count the number of right choices kindergartners were able to list. Congratulate them on their accomplishment.
10 Dismiss
Encourage kindergartners to make right choices this week. Send home todays Kindergarten Connection page.

Line up to wash hands; ask volunteers to distribute the snack. Thank God for the snack. Clean up after eating.

With your Bible open to Genesis 12, tell the story. Abram (AY bruhm) was a man who loved God. Abram listened to God and did what God told him to do. One day, God spoke to Abram. God said, Leave your home and go to the place where I will show you. I will take care of you. You and your family will become very important. Abram did what God told him to do. Abram packed everything he had. He gathered all of his workers and all of his family. Abrams wife, Sarai (SEHR igh), and his nephew Lot also packed to move. Abram was 75 years old when he left his home. Abram and his family set out for the place God wanted them to go. God told Abram to go to a place called Canaan. Abram obeyed God. He traveled through the land of Canaan until he came to a large tree. God said, I will give this land to your children. Abram built an altar and worshiped God. He thanked God for taking care of him and his family. Abram traveled toward hills. He set up his tents and made a place for his family to live. Abram built another altar and worshiped God. 6 Pray
Ask God to help kindergartners do what God says.

As you lead kindergartners in the following activities, be aware of opportunities to help them understand they obey God when they do what the Bible says. A Make a list. Ask: Have you ever been on a trip? Ask children what they packed to go on their trip. On a large sheet of paper, make a list of the things they name. Say: Abram packed everything he had to obey God and to go to the place where God told him to go. God wants us to obey Him. When the list is complete, kindergartners may want to illustrate some of the items on the sheet. B Play a game. Lead kindergartners in a game of follow-the-leader. Walk, skip, tiptoe, take giant steps, or clap your hands as you move around the room. Say: God wants us to do what He says. Talk about ways kindergartners can do what God says. Let the children take turns being the leader. C Recall the Bible story. Invite kindergartners to sit in chairs in a circle. Explain that they will toss a beanbag (or wadded piece of paper) to different people in the circle while you play music on the CD or count to 10. When the music stops (or you reach 10), the kindergartner holding the beanbag will recall a fact about the Bible story. If the Bible story picture is available, display it to help with recall. D Make a landscape. Say: Abram did what God said and moved his family to a new land. God took care of Abrams family. Explain that kindergartners will design a new land with blocks and sheets of blue, brown, and green paper. They can build hills, a large tree, tents, and a river. They can draw with markers on the paper to make other features they would like to include.
8 Clean Up
Sing the following song as you lead kindergartners to clean the activity area. Sing (tune For Hes a Jolly Good Fellow): Friends can *wipe off the table. Friends can wipe off the table. Friends can wipe off the table. Friends can help at church. *Substitute: put away pencils, pick up the toys.
9 Play a Mimicking Game

Sit cross-legged on the floor in a circle. Explain that nobody but you can talk during this game. Lead kindergartners to copy your actions. Begin by slapping your thighs slowly, then faster. You can also snap your fingers, clap your hands, touch your knees, tap your head, and tap the floor. If time allows, kindergartners may take turns being the leader.
10 Dismiss
Thank kindergartners for coming to church. Say: You obeyed God when you came to church today. Send home todays Kindergarten Connection page.

After kindergartners wash their hands, ask for two volunteers to distribute the plates and napkins. After distributing snacks, say a thank-you prayer. Clean up after eating.

Show the Bible story picture on todays Kindergarten Connection page and hold your Bible open on your lap to Joshua 3 as you tell the story. Early one morning, Joshua and the people of Israel went down to the Jordan River. They camped there for three days. After three days, Joshuas helpers went through the camp and told the people, Watch for the ark of the covenant. When you see the priests (church leaders) carrying it, move from where you are and follow it. So the people took down their tents and got ready to cross the river. The priests who were carrying the ark of the covenant went in front of the people. The priests came to the river. When their feet touched the edge of the water, the river stopped. The priests walked to the middle of the river on dry ground! They stood there until all the people walked across on dry ground. God told Joshua to choose 12 men. God said to Joshua, Tell each man to get a big stone from the bottom of the river where the priests are standing and take it to the other side. So Joshua chose 12 men and said to them, Go back to the middle of the river where the priests are standing. Pick up a stone and carry it on your shoulders and place it where we will camp. The 12 men followed the directions Joshua had given them. Next, the priests carried the ark of the covenant out of the river. As soon as they stepped out of the river, the water began flowing again. Joshua stacked the 12 stones that the men had brought from the middle of the Jordan River. Joshua said that the stones would remind them that God took care of them.

5 Say the Bible Verse

Print the Bible verse words and reference on rock-shaped paper pieces. Make a rock path in correct verse order. Invite kindergartners to say the verse as they walk the path.
6 Pray
Lead kindergartners in thanking God for everything He can do.

Kindergartners will begin to understand that God can do anything as they play in the Bible-learning activities. Use the time to talk with the children and review the Bible story. Allow enough time for them to complete two or three activities. A Listen and draw. Play music from the CD softly in the background. Provide paper and markers for each child. Invite the children to draw pictures of things God can do as they listen to the music. B Build with blocks. Review with the kindergartners why God told Joshua to have the people of Israel build an altar. Invite the children to look at the blocks and select and carry 12 rocks across a make-believe river. On the other side of the river, they can build altars. Encourage them to count the rocks as they build. C Make paper rocks. Gather scrap paper, crayons, and a paper sack for each child. Invite the children to use the crayons to add color and detail to the sacks to make them look like rock surfaces. Show children how to stuff their sacks with wadded pieces of scrap paper. Help each child flatten his rock and seal it with tape. Tell the Bible story as children work. D Work puzzles. Provide a group of puzzles for the kindergartners to work. Invite them to choose and work one puzzle at a time by themselves or with a friend. Praise them for keeping the puzzle area neat and for not mixing the puzzle pieces.
8 Clean Up
To the tune Row, Row, Row Your Boat, sing: Clean, clean, clean the room; / Everybody help! Pick up the toys / and throw out trash. Its time to clean the room.
9 Play God Can Do All Things

Invite the kindergartners to sit on the floor near you. Say: Listen carefully to hear if I am spelling your name. When you recognize your name, stand up and say God can do all things! Continue playing until all kindergartners names have been spelled or parents arrive for their children.
10 Dismiss
Help kindergartners collect personal items including the Kindergarten Connection page. Inform parents that todays Bible story statedGod can do anything. Encourage parents to review todays Bible truth with their child.

Play a Color Match

Sit on the floor in a circle. Say: God made beautiful colors for us to enjoy at Easter. What is your favorite color? Listen for responses. Direct children to take turns picking a color they are wearing; then they can find someone else wearing the same color. Play as time allows. Vary the game by finding something in the room that is the same color as each childs shirt, dress, or shoes.
Thank You, God, for Jesus

During the month of Easter, kindergartners will learn about things Jesus did, and they will thank God for Jesus.

Tip: Jesus Is the Reason for the Season

Celebrating Easter has become big in the secular world. However, avoid the temptation to decorate or use secular objects to teach kindergartners. At church, kindergartners need to hear the true meaning of Easter.
Kids and Missions

Hi! My name is Caleb Bowman. I am a missionary kid (MK) in Zambia, Africa. Where I live, the people speak Bemba. The food in Zambia is different than in the U.S. My favorites are ubwali and kapenta. Ubwali is made from ground-up corn and is like thick grits. Kapenta is dried fish about the size of minnows. I love being an MK (missionary kid). I help my missionary parents by going with them to different villages where they teach about Jesus. We go in a 4x4 truck that has a big snorkel on it so we can go through really deep puddles. I have started telling my favorite Bible stories to the kids that gather around while my dad teaches the adults. Play Find the Empty Tomb

Print tomb on top of a small, empty box and hide it in the room. Say: Mary went to the garden to see the tomb where Jesus was buried. Guide kindergartners to find the tomb (small box). Allow the children time to find the tomb. When they find and open it, ask: Was Jesus in the tomb? Exclaim together: He was not there! Jesus is alive! Play again if time allows.
Finger Play: Springtime

The rain is falling to the ground; (Fingers mimic raindrops.) Down, down, down, it falls around. (Fingers touch the ground.) The breeze is blowing through the trees; (Move arms side to side.) They gently bend and shake the leaves. (Bend body while shaking arms.) The birds are singing in the sky; (Form beaks with hands.) Up, up, up, they soar and they fly. (Fly with arms straight out.) The days are breezy and warm outdoors. Spring is here. It is winter no more.
Spell with Letters

Print Jesus on a large sheet of paper for kindergartners to see. Say: People welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem because they loved Him. Distribute old magazines, sheets of construction paper, scissors, and glue sticks. Ask each kindergartner to search for and cut out letters to spell Jesus. After they have found the letters, lead them to glue the letters on construction paper in the correct order. Send these home as a reminder for the children to thank God for Jesus.
Make a Sea of Fish

Print at the top of a large sheet of blue paper or poster board the Bible verse Jesus gave His disciples food to eat. John 21:13. Read the Bible verse to the kindergartners. Provide paper, crayons, markers, glue, and child-size scissors. Lead each kindergartner to draw a fish, color it, cut it out, and glue it on the blue paper you have prepared. The boys and girls may want to draw, color, cut out, and glue several fish. Say: The disciples threw their net into the sea and caught 153 fish. Hang the completed project where parents can see it.
Make a Megaphone
Say: God wants us to tell people about Jesus. Explain that kindergartners will make megaphones to use to tell about Jesus. Provide paper or foam cups for each kindergartner. Cut out the bottom. Print on a large sheet of paper the Bible verse Tell people everywhere about Jesus. Matthew 28:19-20. Distribute markers and stickers so kindergartners can copy the Bible verse on their megaphones and decorate them. Those who are not yet printing easily may choose to print only the name Jesus on the megaphone. Allow time for kindergartners to practice using their megaphones to tell their friends about Jesus and things He did.

As kindergartners wash their hands, suggest that they be patient by taking turns. Pray, thanking God for the snack. While the children eat, cut leaves for 7C - Role-play the Bible story.

If available, show the picture in the Read to Me Bible for Kids of children welcoming Jesus. Tell this story. Jesus and His disciples were walking along the road to Jerusalem. When they came near to the town called Bethphage (Beth FUH jee), Jesus said to two of His disciples, Go into the town. You will find a colt or young donkey and its mother there. Bring them to Me. The two disciples went to Bethphage and brought the donkeys to Jesus. The disciples spread their coats on the young donkey to make a soft place for Jesus to sit. Jesus climbed on the donkey. He began riding to Jerusalem. Along the way, many people were waiting to see Jesus. Some people spread their coats on the road. Others cut branches from palm trees and spread them on the road. As Jesus passed by, the people praised Him. They shouted, Hosanna! Hosanna! When Jesus entered the city, everyone was talking about Him. People asked, Who is this man? The crowds answered, This is Jesus. When Jesus came to the temple, He healed the people who were blind and people who could not walk. Children were in the temple, too. Hosanna! Hosanna! the children called to Jesus. He listened to the sound of their happy voices. Some men were upset when they saw the things that Jesus did and heard the children praising Him. 5 Say a Bible Verse

Print on an index card each word of the Bible verse This is Jesus. Matthew 21:11. Place the cards in a paper sack. Ask volunteers to take turns pulling a card from the sack until the word This is drawn. Tape it to the wall. When all the Bible words have been drawn and taped in the correct order, repeat the verse together.
6 Pray
Ask for volunteers to pray, thanking God for Jesus.

As kindergartners participate in the following activities, say: We love Jesus, and we can thank God for Him. A Make a palm tree. Print on a large sheet of paper the Bible verse This is Jesus. Matthew 21:11. Say: The people welcomed Jesus by spreading palm branches on the road. The palm branches came from palm trees. Distribute white sheets of paper, brown strips of construction paper, green construction paper, and glue. Lead each kindergartner to glue a brown strip of paper on a white sheet to make a tree trunk. Lead them to tear out palm leaves. They can copy each word of the Bible verse on a different palm leaf and glue the palm leaves to the top of the tree trunk in the correct order. Allow them to add other leaves or details as they choose. B Play Find the Donkey. Say: Jesus asked His disciples to find a donkey. Explain that you will hide a toy donkey (or a block with masking tape labeled donkey) in the room while kindergartners cover their eyes. Allow the children to look for the donkey. Whoever finds it gets to hide it next. C Role-play the Bible story. While kindergartners are eating their snacks, cut several pretend palm leaves out of construction paper. Cut simple robe shapes, too. Explain that kindergartners will role-play todays Bible story. Some preschoolers will lay down palm leaves, and others will lay down the robes. Ask for a volunteer to pretend to be Jesus. Lead kindergartners to say the Bible verse This is Jesus. Matthew 21:11 as Jesus walks by. If time permits, allow kindergartners to take turns pretending to be Jesus. D Sing a song. Say: Children in the temple praised Jesus. We can praise Jesus, too. Lead kindergartners in waving their arms in rhythm and singing (tune Jesus Loves Me chorus): Jesus, we love You. Jesus, we love You. Jesus, we love You. Hosanna! We praise You.
8 Clean Up
Challenge kindergartners to clean the room. Be available to assist in putting things where they belong.
9 Play a Name Game

Print each kindergartners name on a strip of paper and place it in a bag. Sit in a circle. Say: People welcomed Jesus to Jerusalem. Draw a name from the bag. After the child stands, lead everyone to clap for him. Say: Were glad you are here! Let that child draw the next name. Continue until everyone has been welcomed.

Greet parents. Follow your churchs dismissal policy. Send home todays Kindergarten Connection page.

Sing (tune The Farmer in the Dell): Jesus is alive. Jesus is alive. Mary saw and talked to Him. Yes, Jesus is alive.

Print Mary, Peter, and John on index cards. Form three groups. Give each group a card. Ask each group to listen for the person on their card as you tell todays Bible story. Early in the morning, Mary Magdalene walked toward a hill outside Jerusalem. She was sad. Jesus had died on the cross and had been buried for three days. Mary Magdalene was walking to the garden to see the tomb where Jesus was buried. When she got to the tomb, she saw that it was open. The big, heavy stone had been rolled away from the opening. The tomb was empty! Mary ran to find Peter and John, two of Jesus disciples. They have taken Jesus from the tomb, Mary said. I dont know where they have put Him! Peter and John ran to the tomb. They looked inside. They saw pieces of cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus body. Jesus was gone! Peter and John went home, but Mary Magdalene stood near the tomb. She was crying. Mary bent over to look inside the tomb again. She saw two angels sitting where Jesus body had been. Why are you crying? the angels asked. Someone took Jesus away. I dont know where He is, Mary Magdalene said. Mary turned around and saw a man standing nearby. Why are you crying? He asked. Mary thought the man was the gardener. She said, If youve taken Jesus away, please tell me where He is. Mary, the man said. Mary Magdalene knew the mans voice. He was Jesus. Jesus said, Go and tell My disciples that you have seen Me. Mary ran and found the disciples. She said, I have seen Jesus! He is alive!

5 Say a Bible Verse

Together recite the Bible verse Jesus is alive! Matthew 28:7. Explain that everyone will move around to music. When the music stops, all shout Jesus is alive! Play music or sing the song from 3 - Sing Together.
6 Pray
Pray a simple prayer, thanking God that Jesus is alive.

Use the following activities to help kindergartners better understand Easter. When opportunities arise, explain that Jesus is alive! A Make a banner. Say: Whenever we want to celebrate an important event, we hang a special banner. Today is Easter. We will make an Easter banner. Tape several sheets of drawing paper together on the wall to make a banner. Print across the top Jesus is alive! Matthew 28:7. Instruct kindergartners to draw flowers, plants, and trees that may have been in the garden where Mary saw Jesus. B Recall the Bible story. Ask kindergartners to stand in a circle. Place an empty trash can in the middle of the circle. Instruct kindergartners to take turns recalling one fact from the Bible story. When a child recalls a fact about the story, he can throw a ball, wadded up paper ball, or beanbag into the trash can. C Make a flower. Say: Mary saw Jesus in the garden. For each kindergartner, provide a sheet of white paper, bright pieces of construction paper, craft sticks, and 2- to 3-inch pieces of yarn. Lead each kindergartner to glue a craft stick on her sheet of paper for the stem, torn pieces of construction paper for petals, and small pieces of yarn for roots. Comment: At Easter we celebrate Jesus is alive. D Empty a bag. Place several small items in a paper bag, such as an eraser, block, small ball, crayon, glue stick, tape, and child-size scissors. Say: Mary, Peter, and John found an empty tomb. Explain that they will empty a paper bag. Allow kindergartners to take turns placing their hands into the bag without looking. They are to guess the item they are touching inside the bag and pull it out.
8 Clean Up
Assign a specific cleanup duty to each kindergartner. Praise children for their good work.
9 Pop a Pretend Balloon

Lead kindergartners to stand in a close circle. Explain that they will each blow as if they were blowing up a balloon. After each blow, they will expand their circle a little at a time. When they reach as far as they can grow, they will pop and fall down. This activity can be repeated several times. If you need another game to fill the time, play I Spy. You can remind kindergartners that people in the story spied angels, an empty tomb, pieces of cloth, and Jesus alive!
10 Dismiss
As parents arrive to pick up their children, wish them a happy Easter. Thank them for bringing their children to church on this special day. Remember to send home todays Kindergarten Connection weekly page.

Luke 24:13-35

Open the Bible to Luke 24. Show the Bible story picture; review the story. Two men were walking on the road to a village near Jerusalem called Emmaus (eh MAY uhs). They were talking and arguing about what had happened to Jesus during the past week. As they walked, Jesus joined them, but they did not recognize Him. Jesus asked the men why they were arguing. One of them, Cleopas (KLEE oh puhs), said, You must be the only one who doesnt know what has been happening in Jerusalem. The two men began to tell Jesus about the events of the last few days. Jesus was performing miracles and telling people about God, they said. The government leaders decided He should die. He died on a cross. Three days later some women went to the tomb. It was empty. An angel said that He was alive! Some of the people with us went to the tomb and did not see Him. Jesus began telling the two men all that was written in the Bible about Himself. As they came near Emmaus, the men invited Him to stay with them. They still did not recognize Jesus. As the three men sat at the table, Jesus took the bread, prayed over it, and tore a piece for each one. Then the men recognized Him. It was Jesus sitting at their table!

Suddenly, Jesus was gone. The men returned to Jerusalem that night to find the disciples. They said they had walked with Jesus but did not recognize Him. But when He blessed the bread and broke it, they knew who He was. They had seen Jesusalive!
5 Say a Bible Phrase

Open the Bible to Acts 11:20. Read the Bible verse The men told people about Jesus while printing the words and reference on cards. Echo read the verse: pause after each word for the children to echo the word and become familiar with the verse. Shuffle and distribute the cards; encourage the children to arrange the cards in the correct order.
6. Pray
Thank You, God, for telling us people saw Jesus alive after He had been dead.
7. Play in Bible-Learning Activities

During the activities, talk about ways we know Jesus is alive. A Retell the Bible story. Sit in a circle. Play music. Pass a small object around the circle. Stop the music. Ask the child holding the object to tell something about todays Bible story. Repeat until the Bible story has been recalled. B Draw with chalk. Provide chalk and dark construction paper. Lead the children to draw a picture of something that is alive. As children draw, refer to the Bible story bullet points on page 17, and tell the Bible story. Show children Luke 24 in the Bible. Help children print the Bible verse on their papers. C Unscramble the Bible verse. Print on individual index cards the Bible verse words The men told people about Jesus. Acts 11:20. Mix up the cards and lay them facedown in a row. Invite a kindergartner to turn over a card and read it. If it is the first word in the verse, lay it faceup as the beginning of the sentence; otherwise, place it facedown again. Do the same for the second word. Take turns drawing and placing cards. When the verse is unscrambled, read it together. D Play a friends game. Pair off kindergartners. Say: Friends, foot to foot. Each pair stands with feet touching. Then say: Friends, knee to knee. Pairs touch knees to knees. Continue calling out body combinations: shoulder to shoulder or elbow to elbow. Say: We can play with friends, and we can tell them about Jesus, just as the two men in our Bible story told about Jesus.
8. Clean Up
Move among the kindergartners, asking them to store materials in the correct location. Assist them until the area is clean. Praise the children as they complete their area.

Sit in a circle. Say: I can tell my friend about Jesus. She is wearing black shoes. Who is she? Encourage children to guess. Continue playing and guessing until all have played. Say: You can tell friends about Jesus, too.

Show todays teaching picture and tell the story. Im going fishing, Peter said to some of Jesus disciples. Thomas and Nathanael were there. So were James and John. The men were near the Sea of Galilee. Well go fishing with you, the men said. They took a boat out into the water. They fished all night, but they did not catch any fish. Early the next morning, the men saw someone standing on the shore near the water. They could not tell who the man was. The man called, Friends, dont you have any fish? No, the disciples answered. Throw the net on the right side of the boat, the man said. Youll find fish there. When the men threw out their net, they could not pull the net into the boat. There were too many fish in it. John said to Peter, That man is Jesus! As soon as Peter heard that, he put on his coat and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish. When the disciples reached the shore, they saw a fire. There were some fish cooking. There was also bread. Jesus said to them, Bring some of the fish you have caught. Peter climbed into the boat and dragged the net to the shore. The disciples counted 153 large fish in the net. Jesus said to the disciples, Come and eat breakfast. When Jesus and the disciples finished eating, Jesus talked to Peter. Jesus gave Peter a special job to do. Jesus told Peter to tell people about Him.

5 Say a Bible Verse

Cut eight fish shapes, each from a different color of construction paper. Print each word and the reference of the Bible verse on a fish. Hide the fish around the room. After the Bible story, explain that fish are hidden around the room. Invite the children to pretend their room is the ocean, and they must swim around the room looking for the fish. When all the fish have been found, help them arrange the words in the correct order and read the verse together.
6 Pray
Pray, thanking God that Jesus loves us.

As kindergartners participate in the following activities, reinforce the Bible truth that Jesus gave food to His disciples because He loved them. A Make a pretend meal. Say: Jesus showed love to His disciples by fixing them a meal. Explain that they will show their love for one another by making a pretend breakfast for their friends. Distribute play dough, craft sticks, and paper plates. Ask: What kinds of things do you like to eat for breakfast? Encourage kindergartners to use their suggestions to make breakfast for their friends. B Ride in a boat. Use masking tape to make the outline of a boat on the floor large enough for your group of children. Lead kindergartners to sit in the boat. Encourage them to pretend they are rowing, throwing their nets, and swaying with the waves. Ask kindergartners to role-play the Bible story. Say: Jesus helped His friends catch fish. C Paint a sea of fish. Distribute white sheets of construction paper, watercolors, paintbrushes, and cups of water. Lead kindergartners to paint fish on their construction paper. Say: Jesus disciples caught 153 fish in their net. D Recall the Bible story. Lead kindergartners to sit randomly on the floor. Use a sweater, jacket, or baby blanket from the dramatic play area as a net. Explain to kindergartners that you will pretend to fish. Walk around the children and gently place the net on one child. Encourage this child to recall a fact from the Bible story. Continue until each child has had a turn.
8 Clean Up
Lead kindergartners to clean up the activity area and place supplies in the proper places.
9 Play Which Fish?

While kindergartners are waiting for parents to arrive, play Which Fish? Use fish made for 5 Say a Bible Verse. Sit on the floor. Lay the fish on the floor and point out the colors. Cover the fish; then remove the cover, taking one fish with it. Ask kindergartners which color fish is missing. Play until parents arrive.

Open your Bible to Acts 2 and tell the Bible story. While on a mountain in Galilee, Jesus told the disciples to go and teach others. He told them to baptize them. He also said to remember to do everything He had said. Peter and the other disciples went to Jerusalem for a special celebration called Pentecost. Many families also came to Jerusalem for this special time. People came from many different countries, and they spoke many languages. They could not understand each other. The disciples and other believers had gathered together. They heard a loud noise like a loud wind. Suddenly everyone could hear in their own languages what the disciples and other believers were saying. Peter and the other disciples knew it was time to tell the people about Jesus. They stood in front of the crowd of people. In a loud voice, Peter called, Listen, my friends! Let me tell you about Jesus. God sent His Son, Jesus, because He loves you. Jesus did wonderful things. He made sick people well. He helped blind people see. Jesus died on a cross. God made Him alive again. Jesus is alive! Jesus is Gods Son. The people listened to Peter and felt sad. They had not understood that Jesus was Gods Son. They asked Peter and the other disciples, What should we do? Peter answered, Talk to God and tell Him you are sorry for doing wrong things. Use the following activities to guide kindergartners to understand that they can tell people about Jesus. A Build vehicles. Say: Missionaries travel by airplane, bus, car, and in other vehicles to tell people about Jesus. Lead kindergartners to use the blocks to build a vehicle. Tell the Bible story as they build. B Speak in a different language. Say: At Pentecost, everyone could hear about Jesus in his own language. Lead kindergartners to say Jesus in Portuguese. In Portuguese, Jesus is pronounced (zhe-zoos). If you know other languages, teach those pronunciations for Jesus. C Make a door hanger. Print Jesus loves you on a marker board or large sheet of paper. Say: You can tell people about Jesus. Explain to kindergartners that they will make door hangers to tell people about Jesus. Distribute rectangular shapes of construction paper, markers, 8-inch pieces of yarn, and tape. Instruct kindergartners to copy the phrase onto their door hangers. Assist them in taping the yarn to the back of the door hangers. They can decorate their door hangers by drawing borders on them. Suggest that kindergartners ask their parents to go with them to hang their door hangers on neighbors doors during the week. D Play a game. Ask kindergartners to sit in a circle on the floor. Whisper Jesus loves you into the ear of the child sitting to the right of you. Ask each kindergartner to whisper the message to the person next to her in the circle. Say: We tell people about Jesus when we tell them Jesus loves them.
8 Clean Up
Invite kindergartners to clean up the activity centers where they were working. Praise kindergartners for their efforts.
9 Play a Game
Form groups of five kindergartners. Provide each group with a ball or wadded sheet of paper. Ask each group to form a line. Explain that they will race to see which team can pass their ball down the line the fastest. Form new groups and continue to play until parents arrive.

Work Puzzles
Open your Bible to Ephesians 6:7. Say: Work together happily. Uncle Abram and his nephew Lot worked together. Pair up the kindergartners. Provide a puzzle for each pair to work. Encourage the boys and girls to take turns as they work together to assemble the puzzles.

This month kindergartners will learn about Bible families. They will think about ways their own family members show love to one another.
Sing Children, Obey Your Parents

(Tune The Bear Went over the Mountain) Children, obey your parents. Children, obey your parents. Children, obey your parents. Do what the Bible says. Stand in a circle as you sing this song. Bounce a ball or gently toss a beanbag from one person to another each time you sing the word obey.
Tip: Adjustment Issues

As a kindergartner learns about Bible families, he will discover that his family may be different from someone elses. On Mothers Day, be sensitive to the fact that some children may not have mothers in the house.
Kids and Missions

New York City is a BIG city with many people. The Reesors are North American missionaries who are starting Encounter Church there. Their family does some cool things to introduce people in the city to the church. Lawson Reesor is 5 years old; he loves being a missionary kid and helping his parents. When he makes friends with other children his age, his parents get to know their parents and invite them to church. The church sometimes holds family festival events. Lawson helps set up an event, and then he plays with the children who come. He likes helping with the prize table, and he gives out water and information about the church. Sing Thank You Song

Make a Patchwork Quilt

Cut patterned wrapping paper remnants (if available) and colored paper into 2-inch squares. Provide large sheets of construction paper and glue. Explain that kindergartners will make a patchwork quilt by gluing the squares together in random order. Say: God wants us to love and care for others. The woman in Shunem gave Elisha a place to sleep. Sometimes churches and families help people have warm quilts and blankets.
Find the Bible Verse

Invite kindergartners to sit in a circle on the floor. Provide a Read to Me Bible or another Bible with large print for kindergartners to look at. Print on an index card the Bible verse Help one another in love. Galatians 5:13. Say: Lets find what God says to us in Galatians 5:13. Explain that the Bible is made up of many books. Open your Bible to the Book of Galatians. Teach kindergartners that the number 5 refers to the chapter in Galatians and the number 13 refers to the verse. Point to the verse written on the index card. Ask a volunteer to point to the verse in the Bible. Ask another volunteer to place the index card in the Bible as a bookmark. Together say the Bible verse Help one another in love.
Finger Play: How Many People?

How many people in your family? Is it one or two or three? Count them, *friend, and please tell me. How many people in your family? *Substitute a childs name. Say the rhyme, holding up fingers for one or two or three. At the end, ask the child to tell the number of people in his family. Clap out the number of people for each childs family.
Play an Add-on Game

Say: Our parents show love to us by buying us food to eat. Think of things you like to buy at the grocery store. Explain that they will play a game listing items on a grocery list. The first kindergartner will say: I went to the market and bought cereal. The second kindergartner will say: I went to the market and bought cereal and pizza. The third will say these items and add his own. Play until someone forgets the sequence; then begin again.

Direct children to wash their hands. Ask for helpers to set the table. Pray, thanking God for the snack. Encourage kindergartners to be good helpers and clean up the snack area.

Ask kindergartners to tiptoe to group time. As children arrive, talk about ways they help their families at home.

But Pharaoh (FEHR oh), the king of Egypt, did not want Hebrew baby boys to live. For three months, Jochebed hid the baby. When she could not hide him any longer, Jochebed took a basket made from reeds and covered the outside with black, sticky tar. The tar would keep water out of the basket. Gently, Jochebed placed her baby in the basket. She set the basket in the reeds near the edge of the Nile River. Miriam stayed near the river to watch her baby brother. Pharaohs daughter came to take a bath in the river. She saw the basket in the reeds and sent a helper to get it. When she opened the basket, she saw the baby boy. She felt sorry for him. Miriam came out of the tall grass. Do you want me to get someone to take care of the baby? she asked Pharaohs daughter. Yes, said Pharaohs daughter. Miriam hurried to get her mother. Take this baby and care for him, Pharaohs daughter said to Jochebed. I will pay you to take care of the baby. Jochebed took the baby home to take care of him. When he was older, she took him back to Pharaohs daughter. She named him Moses. Miriam showed love to her family by helping keep her brother safe.

Print on an index card each word of the Bible verse Help one another in love. Galatians 5:13. Place the cards on the floor in the correct order. Read the verse together as a group. Scramble the cards and lead kindergartners to place them in the correct order.
6 Pray
Pray, thanking God for families. Ask God to help kindergartners be good helpers at home.

Use the following activities as you guide kindergartners to understand that they can help their families. A Make a basket. Say: Moses mother prepared a basket to put him in the river. Assist children as they make baskets out of lunch-size paper bags. For each child, cut off the top 5 inches of a sack and set aside for a handle. Instruct children to cut strips of construction paper and glue the strips around the basket (bottom portion of the sack). Some children may want to tape vertical strips around the basket and weave horizontal strips through them. Trim the original cutoff portion to a desired width for a handle for the basket. Tape or staple it to the basket. Say: Miriam helped her mother and baby brother. You can help your family. B Recall the Bible story. Prop the teaching picture or the Bible story picture on todays Kindergarten Connection page where kindergartners can see it. Print the words baby, mother, Pharaoh, basket, river, and sister on cards. Place cards facedown on the floor. Lead kindergartners to take turns picking a card and recalling one thing they remember from the Bible story about that word. Help as needed. C Play a hiding game. Say: Pharaohs daughter found the baby Moses in the river. Explain that you will hide a doll in the room. Kindergartners will look for the doll. The child who finds the doll will then take a turn hiding it. D Make a mural. Tape drawing paper to the wall and provide crayons for kindergartners. Lead the children to draw a river scene like the one where baby Moses was. Remind them that tall grass grows at a rivers edge and that frogs, dragonflies, ducks, butterflies, and fish can be found in and near rivers.
8 Clean Up
Invite kindergartners to clean up the activity areas where they were working. Praise them for being good helpers.
9 Sing a Song
Until parents arrive, do the actions as you sing (tune Mulberry Bush): Everyone come and *follow me, follow me, follow me, Everyone come and follow me, On this happy morning. *Substitute: hop around, stand so still, sit right down, wiggle with me, wiggle your toes, wiggle your feet, wiggle your legs, and other actions that kindergartners suggest.
10 Dismiss
Greet parents warmly at the door. Dismiss kindergartners according to your churchs policy. Send home todays Kindergarten Connection weekly page.
1 Snack
Ask volunteers to distribute the snack. Prompt kindergartners to thank those who helped serve. Thank God for the snack.

Ask kindergartners to follow the leader to group time. Pretend to go up and down rows in a field, harvesting grain.
3 Sing Together
Sing several times (tune God Is So Good), replacing mom and dad with other family members: I can show love; I can show love; I can show love to my mom and dad.

Open your Bible to the Book of Ruth. Tell the story. Ruth and Naomi were widows (women whose husbands had died). Ruth loved Naomi. Naomi decided to move back to her hometown of Bethlehem. Ruth went with her. They arrived at the beginning of the barley harvest. Ruth and Naomi needed food. Ruth said, Let me go to the fields and glean. I can pick up grain that workers leave behind. Naomi replied, Yes, go and gather grain. Ruth went to a field and began to walk behind the harvest workers, picking up barley they left on the ground. Boaz (BOH az), the owner of the field, saw Ruth and asked his helper, Who is that woman? The man answered, That is Ruth. She moved to Bethlehem with her mother-in-law, Naomi. She asked if she could gather barley behind the workers. She has worked hard all morning. Boaz said to Ruth, Do not go to another field. Stay here and gather grain in my fields. He shared his water and food with her. Ruth asked, Why are you so kind to me? Boaz said, I know how kind you have been to Naomi. Boaz told his workers to leave extra barley for Ruth. When Ruth finished working that day, Naomi was surprised to see how much barley she brought home. Naomi asked, Where did you work to get so much grain? Ruth said, I worked in Boazs field today. Naomi said, Boaz is my relative. Stay with his workers and you will be safe. Ruth worked in Boazs field until the end of harvest. Later, Boaz and Ruth were married. Time passed and Ruth became a mother; Boaz became a father. They had a baby boy named Obed. Naomi helped care for Obed. Boaz, Ruth, Naomi, and Obed were a happy family.

Print on a large sheet of paper the Bible verse Show family love to one another. Romans 12:10. Read the verse together and ask kindergartners how they can show love to different members of their families.
6 Pray
Thank God for families who love and care for us.

As kindergartners participate in the following activities, look for opportunities to encourage them to show love to their families. A Make a banner of names. Help kindergartners recall the names of people in todays Bible story. (Naomi, Ruth, Boaz, Obed) Print them on the banner. Ask the boys and girls to print on the banner names of their mothers, fathers, guardians, or other family members if they know the names. Assist with spelling. Ask whether anyone is named for a parent or grandparent. (Be sensitive to the family situations represented by your kindergartners.) Say: God gave us family members to love. B Recall the story. Ask kindergartners to sit in a circle on the floor. Pass todays teaching picture around the circle. Ask each kindergartner to look at the picture and tell one fact about todays Bible story. Offer several puzzles. Invite kindergartners to work together to complete the puzzles. C Take care of babies. Say: We can show our families we love them. Provide dolls and other baby items from the dramatic play center. Encourage kindergartners to play with the babies and care for them in a kind and gentle way. Say: Our Bible story includes a baby named Obed. Emphasize the family in the Bible story as you tell it. D Make a card. Provide old magazines (if available), construction paper, markers, scissors, and glue. Invite kindergartners to make Mothers Day cards for their mothers, grandmothers, or guardians. Encourage them to cut out pictures from old magazines and glue them to the construction paper card or draw something colorful on the card. Say: We can show love to our mothers by making them cards.
8 Clean Up
Ask kindergartners to clean the activity area. Thank them for doing their part to clean the room.
9 Play a Game
Cut pieces of yarn about 6 inches long. Hide these around the room. Challenge kindergartners to find as many as they can. When all the strings have been found, ask each kindergartner to place (not tie) her strings together, end-to-end. Congratulate the kindergartner with the longest string for being such a good finder. Let the kindergartners take turns hiding their pieces of string for others to find. (They cannot find their own pieces.) Play until parents arrive.
10 Dismiss
Wish mothers and grandmothers a happy Mothers Day. Send home todays Kindergarten Connection weekly page.
1 Snack
Encourage kindergartners to work together as they wash their hands and distribute the snack. Ask a volunteer to thank God for the snacks. Remind children to throw away their trash.

Play quiet music; ask kindergartners to move quietly to group time. Review ways that kindergartners worked together during snack time.

Show todays teaching picture as you tell the story. Abram loved God very much. He took his wife, his helpers, and all his animals to live in the desert. His nephew, Lot, went with him. Lot also had a family, helpers, and animals. Abrams family and Lots family lived in tents so they could move from place to place. Their animals needed grass to eat and water to drink. It was hard to find enough grass and water for all the animals. The helpers began to quarrel with each other about whose animals should eat the grass and drink the water. They did not want to share. Abram worked with Lot to solve the problem. Abram said, Lets not quarrel or fight. Our helpers should not argue either. We are part of the same family. I am your uncle. You are my nephew. Then Abram said, Lets divide the land. You choose the land you want. I will take the land in the opposite direction. Lot looked at the land near the Jordan River. He chose that land for his family, helpers, and animals. Abram took his family, his helpers, and his animals in the other direction to Canaan. Abram set up his tents there. God spoke to Abram. God told Abram to look in every directionnorth, south, east, and west. God said, All the land you see will belong to your family. I will give this land to you and your children to have forever. Your family will be so big that you cannot count them. Go and walk through the land I am giving you. Abram moved his tents near some large trees. Abram thanked God for the land.

6 Pray
Ask God to help kindergartners work together with their families.

During the following activities, guide kindergartners to understand through your conversation that God wants them to work together and get along with their families. A Work with family members. Provide dishes, dolls, and other available items for kindergartners to play out family situations. Encourage their efforts to work together. Remind them of the Bible phrase Work together happily. B Make tent cards. Distribute colorful index cards and pencils to kindergartners. Say: Abrams and Lots families lived in tents. Lead kindergartners to fold their index cards in half to make tents. Encourage each kindergartner to copy the Bible verse from 5 Say a Bible Verse on one side of her index card tent. Children who like to print may want to copy it on both sides so it can be read from two directions. Suggest that each kindergartner decorate her tent card and take the card home to remind her to work happily with her family. C Play with blocks. Encourage kindergartners to play with blocks. As they work, remind them to work together happily as Abram and Lot did. D Make an animal. Cut circles and rectangles from manila paper. Provide scissors, markers, and glue. Invite each child to select a shape and make it into an animal. Offer to print the Bible verse on the back of each childs animal.
8 Clean Up
Tell kindergartners that it is time to clean up. Encourage them to work together happily.
9 Play a Game
Print the words north, south, east, and west on sheets of construction paper. Illustrate each word using an icicle for north, a sun for south, waves for a river for east, and a cowboy hat for west. Read each word with the children several times. Tape one to each of the four walls in the classroom. Have kindergartners stand in the middle of the room. Explain that you will call out one of the directions and they are to face that way. Begin calling out directions slowly, but then call them out faster and faster. Play until parents arrive.
10 Dismiss
Encourage kindergartners to work happily at home this week. Dismiss kindergartners according to your churchs policy. Send home todays Kindergarten Connection weekly page.
1 Snack
Welcome kindergartners to ETC. Ask the boys and girls to wash their hands. Distribute the snack and invite (do not call on) a volunteer to thank God for the snack.

As kindergartners walk to group time, ask them to pretend to be Elisha walking from town to town telling people about Gods love.

Open your Bible to 2 Kings 4 as you tell the story. Elisha (ih LIGH shuh) was a prophet. A prophet told people what God wanted them to know. Elisha walked from town to town and told people about Gods love. When Elisha came to a town, he often felt tired and hungry. He needed a place to eat and rest. Elisha often visited the town of Shunem (SHOO nem). A woman in Shunem invited Elisha to eat with her husband and her. She told Elisha that he could eat and rest at their house when he came to Shunem. One day the woman said to her husband, Elisha is an important man. He helps people know about God. Lets build a room for him on the roof of our house. We can put a bed, table, chair, and lamp in the room. Whenever he comes to our house, Elisha will have a comfortable place to eat and rest. The next time Elisha came to Shunem, he stopped at the familys house. The man and woman took Elisha to the flat roof of the house. They showed Elisha his new room. Elisha was very thankful for the room. One day as Elisha was resting in his room, he called for his helper Gehazi (gih HAY zigh). Elisha said, Go and get the woman. Gehazi brought the woman to Elisha. Elisha said, You have built a room for me. What can I do for you? The woman did not want Elisha to do anything for her. The woman and her husband were happy to help Elisha.

5 Say a Bible Verse

Print on a large sheet of paper the Bible verse Do good to everyone. Galatians 6:10. Read the verse together. Clap the syllables of the verse as you say it. Repeat several times, each time substituting for everyone the name of a different child in the room, using the name of each child in the room. Ask kindergartners to think of ways they can do good to others.
6 Pray
Thank God for the families of kindergartners in the room. Ask Him to help kindergartners work together with their families to help others.

Use these activities to guide children to think of ways their families can help others in their community and church. A Role-play the Bible story. Set out play dough and suggest that kindergartners make figures to represent Elisha, Gehazi, the woman in Shunem, and her husband. Use the figures to play out the story. Help kindergartners understand that the family in Shunem helped Elisha when he needed a place to stay. B Have a dinner party. Say: We can help others by giving them something to eat. Lead kindergartners to set tables with paper or plastic plates. One of them might want to create a centerpiece. Encourage them to take turns serving their friends pretend food from the play kitchen. C Play with blocks. Lead kindergartners to outline a modern-day room out of blocks. Say: The family in Shunem used their home to help Elisha. What kind of guest room would you make? Use smaller blocks as furniture to place in the house. Encourage children to tear scraps of colored construction paper to make a bedspread, curtains, and other details. Tape them in place. D Recall the Bible story. Instruct children to sit on the floor in a circle. Explain that they will pass a ball around the circle while music plays. When the music stops, the child holding the ball must recall a fact about the Bible story.
8 Clean Up
Lead kindergartners to clean up the activity area. Praise them for their efforts.
9 Sing an Action Song

Sing (tune Row, Row, Row Your Boat): I can *bend my knees, I can bend my knees! Watch me now, and you will see, I can bend my knees! *Substitute: tap my toes; jump up high; march in place; sit back down!
10 Dismiss
Thank kindergartners for coming to church. Dismiss them according to your churchs policy. Send home todays Kindergarten Connection weekly page.
