Since 1937, Main Line Art Center has enriched the lives of artists of all ages, levels and abilities, as well as art appreciators, by offering high quality visual arts experiences through classes led by professional Teaching Artists, exhibition opportunities, artistic development and networking opportunities. Main Line Art Center's mission is to inspire and engage artistic creativity for all ages and abilities and to celebrate and strengthen the essential role of visual art in community life. We are guided by our core values: respect for individual creativity; a belief that everyone has the ability to learn and appreciate art; the belief that art is essential for balance and enrichment; and that that art is a catalyst for building community. The vision of the Art Center is to maintain and further enhance its unique culture of creativity in the visual arts. The art program explores traditional art forms while embracing innovative, forwardthinking, and contemporary ideas. Our strength lies in welcoming new techniques and new teaching methods that encourage people at all levels of ability in the community to create and appreciate art. Classes and workshops are offered yearround in areas such as painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, jewelry making, and printmaking. The Art Center offers up to ten annual exhibitions, including stretch and community exhibitions and seasonal fine crafts shows, that feature the work of established and emerging artists, many of whom are Members, faculty, and students.

We are committed to making art accessible to everyone and accomplish this by offering art programs for individuals of all ages and abilities, including a unique series of outreach programs for children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities, and by offering $12,000 in need-based scholarships from a restricted endowment to our students each year. More than 16,000 individuals, ages two to senior citizens, participated in our programs last yeareither as artists, students, or enthusiastic viewers.

Weve teamed up with Children's Book World to celebrate the great art of children's books. Look at books through the eyes of the illustrators as you meet with the artists, view their work and hear more about how they became an artist. Books will be available for purchase and autographing. Harmelin Media and MINI of the Main Line It all began 75 years ago when a group of passionate artists decided to create a home for the arts in our community. This exhibition celebrates the history of the Art Center, its programs, the white house, and the relationships and connections that have developed throughout the years. Join us as we toast to 75 years of Art for Everyone and celebrate the accomplishments of Judy Herman, who will retire in August after nearly 25 years of leadership. Delectable hors doeuvres, festive spirits and live swing music set the stage for this swanky 1930s-themed bash, set against the backdrop of the exhibition Out of the Attic: 75 Years of History. Bid on vintage jewelry, sporting event packages, fine wine, one-of-a-kind works of art and more in a silent auction benefitting the Art Centers award-winning arts education and community outreach programs.

Be a Part of History: Out of the Attic Exhibition The Art Center seeks work that fits into one of the following categories: Two pieces by the same artist, one made as child studying at the Art Center alongside one made within the last five years as an adult; A single piece done as a child while studying at the Art Center (must be adult now); or work by related members of a family who have all studied at the Art Center. Dont fit into any of these categories, but you have a really impactful story about your relationship with the Art Center and work to go with it? We want to hear from you! This exhibition celebrates the inspiring and colorful work created by participants in the Art Centers outreach programs. MLAC is proud to be one of the leading visual arts organizations in the region to make art accessible to diverse groups in our community. Programs are designed to reach underserved audiences including children, teens and adults with disabilities, at-risk youth and low-income adults and families.

For one night only, we'll open our galleries to artists of all mediums ages 18-36. East Falls Glassworks Studios Glassblowing classes and workshops at East Falls Glassworks located at 3510 Scotts Ln. in Philadelphia. Classes and workshops are open to adults and teens (13 and up). Philadelphia Arts in Education Offering regional K-12 teachers Act 48 credits for qualifying classes and workshops. Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art: The Academy comes to you! Continuing education classes that are taught by professional, renowned artists. Additional costs and course work apply. One course equals 1 Act 48 credit hour. Just two hours north of Philadelphia, Spring Hills Farm is an exquisite countryside retreat with hills, firs, ponds, and grasses as far as the eye can see...an amazing place to paint. The farms 400 acres as well as individual studios and gazebos allow the artist to gather important visual information. Inclusionary Education Using the Arts

This class addresses image making through printmaking media, such as relief, monoprinting and collographs. Create images by drawing/painting directly on the plate or by working from a sketch. The creative process is analyzed at every point. Techniques covered include printing with water-based inks and multiple colors, as well as working with non-traditional presses that can be used in a variety of classroom settings. Students may register at a focused level and complete work of varying levels of refinement and challenges.

Explore current research and various approaches relating to inclusion in the general classroom environment via arts activities. Through discussions and activities, educators gain a better understanding of special needs students and examine strategies and modifications that can enhance learning for all students in the inclusive classroom. This course provides various methodologies, techniques and innovative strategies to teach special education students effectively. Using the arts as a vehicle for adapting to diverse learning methods, the K-8 classroom is considered a dynamic setting for inclusionary learning. Discuss the autism spectrum, mental challenges, physical disabilities and other obstacles students face and then consider hands-on activities that incorporate the visual, aural and tactile to engage these students across the core curriculum.

Join us for a course in representational drawing with an emphasis on developing perceptual skills through drawing from observation. Students will learn how to address formal elements such as line, shape, composition, perspective, light, shadow and volume, using a variety of drawing techniques in black and white drawing materials. If you have always wanted to try working with oils and never have, this class is for you. Students will learn about basic vocabulary, materials, techniques and elements of oil painting such as painting surfaces and how to prepare them, painting tools, mediums, layers of a painting, glazing and color theory. History of oil painting will be discussed along with traditional painting demos. Whether you are, or become, an abstract, realist, or surrealist painter, a graffiti, skateboard genre, or comic book artist, the techniques covered will contribute to your work. Explore color, composition and texture through experimentation and open-ended lessons. Energize your work with creative techniques, and engage in new possibilities to achieve an abstract language with this forgiving medium. Examples from contemporary and modern art will be used to enhance understanding and development of each students artistic voice. While the instructor will use pastels, students may use the medium of their choice. Individual and group critiques provided. A visiting artist will join us for a critique on May 23.

The goal of this class is to draw with paint so that shape, composition, and space are expressed with confidence. This class is designed to help the artist become proficient with capturing color in still life. Oh, the Places Youll Go! Exploring Our Community Through Art.
June 18-Aug. 31

Theres no need to travel far and wide to learn about art! Passports arent required when you learn to see the art all around us in our community. Explore drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, ceramics, metalwork and jewelry with through imaginative projects inspired by places in our community. 11 one-week sessions, full and half days, from June 18-August 31 for ages 4-13. Each week explores a new place so projects never repeat, and concludes with a workshop by a visiting artist and gallery exhibition of camper artwork. Before care, after care and lunch care available. TEEN STUDIOS
Teen Studios provide young artists (ages 13 to 18) the opportunity to study specific mediums in-depth with professional artists. Students build upon technical skill as they expand their imaginations and prepare for a career or further studies in the world of visual arts. Classes are small enough to provide individualized attention and critiques so that students can create work they are proud of and that can be used for portfolio packages for college or art school admissions. The studio schedule is flexible for busy teens and features one- or two- week sessions in the morning, afternoon or early evening throughout the course of summer.

The Art Center may choose to decline an individuals request to enroll in classes or to participate in a class or program when necessary or appropriate. Supply Lists It is the students responsibility to request a copy of a supply list at the front desk or look up the class on our website to download one.

New Student Discount New to the Art Center? Mention this when you call to register or write NEWBIE on your registration form for $10 off of your class and workshop total. Discount not applicable to memberships, trips, lectures, Family Workshops or camp and cannot be given online. Main Line Art Center reserves the right to deny or change discounts if used inappropriately. Class Cancellations The Art Center reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment or in case of a catastrophe. In the event the Art Center cancels a class, students will be notified and full tuition and fee will be refunded. Trip deposits are non-refundable unless MLAC cancels the trip. Cancellations are normally made five days prior to start of class or workshop. Withdrawal/Refund Policy All refunds are subject to a $15 processing fee. An additional $35 fee will be charged for any withdrawal requests from a class or workshop five days prior to the first day of the class or workshop. Withdrawals after first class will also include a pro-rated class fee. No refunds will be granted after the second class. Scholarships Scholarships are available based on financial need. Students who receive scholarships must be Members (at any level). Contact the office for an application or download one from our website. The deadline for submitting an application is March 26. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. For more details, read the policies and procedure portion of the application form. Snow Day Policy Classes may be cancelled due to severe weather. In the event of a weather-related closing, make-ups will be scheduled the week after your class ends or during June 11-17. Early Registration Discount Students registering through March 26 will receive a discount of $10 off their total registration fee (not valid for camp). Only one early registration discount can be used per household per session. Additional Class Discount Students who register for more than one class of 4 weeks or more will receive a $10 discount on each additional class thereafter. Students who register for more than one class or workshop of three (3) weeks or less will receive a $5 discount on each additional workshop thereafter. Offer only applies when registering for multiple classes/workshops at the same time. As noted, larger discounts are sometimes given if a student signs up for two sessions of the same class. You will only receive the greater discount and not an additional $10 off for each class. Discount not applicable for Family Workshops or camp.

Publicity Policy Main Line Art Center reserves the right to use photos taken during classes and other programs for publicity purposes. Registration in a class gives the Art Center permission to use images without further consent or compensation. From time to time, we share our mailing list with partner organizations so that customers can receive info about related cultural activities. If for any reason you would like to opt out of this list, email us at info@mainlineart.org. Student Property The Art Center is not responsible for artwork and other property left on the premises and has no liability if such property is lost, stolen or damaged, except in instances when artwork is displayed in gallery exhibitions and covered by insurance. Artwork or property left two weeks after the semester ends will be discarded.

Emergency Forms Every child under the age of 18 is required to complete and submit a Child Emergency Form to the main office. Adult students are required to inform the main office if they have a medical condition that the staff or faculty should be aware of in the case of emergency. Forms are kept on file for one year unless there are updates or changes. The form can be obtained from the office or are available for download at www.mainlineart.org in the Childrens Education Section.
