Dear Sir / Madam, Thank you very much for your interest in our University. Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), which was established as a state-trust university in 1979 in North Cyprus, is an international university offering worldwiderecognized undergraduate and graduate degrees in 101 different disciplines mostly in English. EMU is the largest and the most developed university in Cyprus and over the past thirty-three years has acquired highly acclaimed international reputation. EMU is pleased to offer a complete education experience on a magnificent campus, with a modern library, research centers, research labs, dormitories, student clubs, sport complexes all geared towards meeting the needs of 14.000 students coming from 68 countries. Our international and well educated faculty members ensure that all students are equipped with good quality education, excellent research skills and general knowledge in various disciplines. To date, EMU has graduated some 34,000 students, who are now successfully pursuing careers or graduate studies both at home and abroad. All programs at EMU are accredited by the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YK). Eastern Mediterranean University is also proud to announce its membership to European University Association (EUA), International Association of Universities (IAU), Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), Community of Mediterranean Universities (CMU) and many more. Moreover, EMU has developed frameworks for collaboration and mobility with 83 universities in 30 countries (13 in the EU). Furthermore, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Civil Engineering programs are granted substantial equivalency by ABET (the American Board for Engineering and Technology) ( among 170 universities in Turkey with EMU only five univeristies obtained the accreditation of ABET), Tourism and Hospitality Management programs are approved by TEDQUAL (Teaching Education Quality in Tourism), and the School of Computing Technologies and School of Tourism and Hospitality Management are EDEXCEL centers and many more. According to rankings by Webometrics, which is centered in Spain, among 160 universities in Turkey, Eastern Mediterranean University has been ranked the 4th among private universities (foundation universities) in Turkey. SCHOLARSHIPS & RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP Every semester each faculty allocates a number of research assistant positions for graduate students according to the faculty budget and the load of work rather than granting scholarships. Students whose undergraduate CGPA is over 3.00 out of 4.00 can apply for research assistantship which are subject to careful evaluation. A full- time research assistant gets exemption from tuition fee as long as his/her assistantship continues and has a salary. APPLICATIONS
Applications to the graduate programs at EMU are accepted twice a year, prior to the beginning of each semester. The Institute of Graduate Studies & Research deals with all graduate programs at Eastern Mediterranean University - http://grad.emu.edu.tr. Prospective applicants are required to have a Bachelor's Degree (BA / Bsc./ BS) for Master Degree applications and a Master's Degree (MS / MSc. / MA) for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) applications. All applicants for whom English is a second language may be required to pass EMU English proficiency exam, or present documents demonstrating their English proficiency level. In addition, students who can provide documents showing that the medium of instruction was English in the University/ Program they graduated from can obtain exemption from the English Proficiency Test. You should document your English proficiency with a valid English Proficiency Test result (Please check the requirements on the Important Notice page). If you do not hold a valid test result, or fail to score 75 or above on the EMU English Proficiency Exam, you will still be able to continue the master program on the condition that you follow the postgraduate English language support program. You will be placed in a one-semester or two-semester language support program according to your level. Those who score below 30 in the English Proficiency Exam will be required to follow an intensive (20 hour/week) English support program without any graduate course load.

EVALUATION OF THE APPLICATION As soon as the application is received, it is evaluated by the proposed academic departments and the Institute of Graduate Studies & Research. Incomplete application forms are not taken into consideration. An acceptance letter is e-mailed to the applicant (if requested posted to the postal address of eligible applicants). Applicants whose academic qualifications are not sufficient are also informed.

N.B: All flights to North Cyprus are connected through Turkey. Therefore, you need a Transit-Visa for Turkey even your final destination is North Cyprus (ERCAN Airport) SCHOLARSHIPS 1 - International Student Scholarship: International Student Scholarship System: From the Spring Semester of the 2009-2010 academic year, international undergraduate and postgraduate (Master) students registering to the Eastern Mediterranean University will be able to apply for merit-based scholarships. These scholarships will be awarded according to: i) High school diploma scores. (for undergraduate applications) ii) University Examination scores. iii) Academic performance at former university in the case of transfer students. The award and distribution of the scholarships will be overseen by the International Students Merit-Based Scholarship Evaluation Committee. According to the decision of the committee, applicants may receive a 25% or 50% reduction in fees. Further, each semester, two applicants from every country will receive a full 100% scholarship. 2 - High Honor Students Scholarship: In accordance with the criteria set for Academic Scholarships, successful EMU students eligible to be called High Honor students, receive reduction from their fees. This scholarship applies to those students who score a CGPA of 3.00, and a GPA between 3.50 and 4.00 during the previous semester. This reduction depends on the number of students who score similar results. 3 - TRNC Government Scholarship Successful students are also entitled to apply for scholarship through Turkish Embassies abroad where a few students are granted. Based on the decision of the University Executive Board, students receive exemption from their fees for one or two terms. EXCHANGE AND COLLABORATION The exchange and collaboration program allows students the opportunity to take courses in different universities for one semester. The majority of professors teaching at the University have received their Doctoral degrees in Europe or the United States. The faculty comprise a diverse international community of scholars, from the U.S. and Canada; Europe, including Britain, Ireland, Turkey and North Cyprus; the Middle East; and Asia, including Russia and the Independent Republics. The University encourages and promotes scholarly research and publication in all academic fields of study, and many faculty members are also actively involved in community matters, as professional writers, editors, advisors to the government, or consultants to businesses and industrial corporations; and hence they are able to bring to their teaching the expertise and professionalism that comes from experience. http://research.emu.edu.tr RESIDENCE AND WORK PERMIT All students studying at TRNC are required by law to obtain a residence permit. The University help students in getting the residence permit. Work permit, in addition to residence permit, is strictly 9

required for those who would like to work part-time while studying. Unfortunately, job opportunities are very limited so enough financial fund should be guaranteed for studying. On the other hand, students are welcomed to apply for part time jobs in the University administration. Students can work in the following departments within University campus: Registrars Office, Dormitories, Library, Computer Center, Security Office, Public Relations, Promotion Office, Canteens & Cafeterias, etc. On the other hand, it is possible to find job outside the campus. LOCATION EMU is located in Gazimagusa (Famagusta) in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea with its unique proximity to Europe, Asia and Africa. Gazimagusa, is a lovely coast town with a very quiet and friendly atmosphere, at the Crossroads of culture. Every detail has been thought of to create a silent and peaceful studying environment. Students can choose from 14 different types of on campus dormitories that can accomodate up to 5,000 students. Students can also rent flat or rooms in private hostels in Gazimagusa (Famagusta). SOCIAL ACTIVITIES Life at EMU is in general pleasant and comfortable. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities and may join a broad range of social and cultural events in the university. There are numerous student clubs and societies at EMU for a wide range of activities including tennis, basketball, volleyball, football, handball, cricket, climbing, chess, ceramics, journalism, art, science and culture, literature, folklore, drama and animation, music, cinema, and photography. Also, every year EMU organizes an International Spring Festival which includes all sort of social, cultural and sport activities for ten days. The EMU Radio and TV station are also operated by students, and broadcasts musical and cultural programs. The campus is also very lively with lots of green and recreation areas where the Mediterranean climate offers warm and sunny weather almost nine months in a year. CANTEENS & CAFETARIAS There are nearly 45 canteen, cafeteria and restaurants for students that their hygenity and pricing procedures are regularly controlled by the Univeristy Administartion. e restaurants in campus offer 4 different meals for lunch and dinner at discount rates to students. HELP DESK The University would like to ensure that the necessary support is given to all students. Help Desks have been established in each department, especially for newcomers, where academic staff and the research assistants help students by advising on effective ways of studying and how to be successful. These Desks are kept open until 24:00.
PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING GUIDANCE AND RESEARCH CENTER (EMUPDRAM)

The Aim of EMU-PDRAM; is to help EMU students with their search for understanding and for developing an awareness of their social, academic, and cognitive potentials. As a result of this understanding, these students will become responsible individuals who will be able to share with, and to care about others no matter how culturally different these others may be, and accept them for who they are. Also they will be helped to have free choices and to carry the responsibilities of these choices. With the support of the Center, students, hopefully, will mature into the kind of individuals who will be capable of leading a productive and successful life during their higher education, and after graduation.
