    You should aim to identify different types of performers (solo/ensemble) different genres pop/rock/classical) performance venues (concert halls/pubs/clubs/educational workshops/studio) describe pay condition (salaried or freelance musician/pay depends on reputation) what skills are required (musical and personal/continued practice is a must) the variable hours (time for rehearsing/travelling/long hours/many musicians combine other jobs for example teaching, composing, journalists) Typically you would be a member of several ensembles.     Identify and explain the necessary skills to be an effective performer on and off the stage. On stage: Audience interaction (connection with the audience through eye contact, smiling etc) Presentation skills (performing with expression, engaging the audience)

    Producing an accurate performance however small the part!! Working with other musicians (communication is essential both verbal and non verbal!)

    Off stage (the rehearsal room) Regular individual practice is essential

    Rehearsing sessions could last up to 3 hours followed by an evening performance (stamina is required) Flexibility in working hours Be prepared instruments may need to be moved/tuned in preparation for the rehearsal A singer must memorise words You may need to organise rehearsals

    A performer will work with a range of other professionals.


    For this section you should establish that performers will naturally have to work with other professionals within the industry. You should provide a list of examples. You could use the following as a starting point: a manager, tour manager, promoter, booking agent, sound engineer Provide examples of how a performer would work with them. For example, it is common to hire the services of an agent, or manager, to find work and negotiate recording contracts.
