Course Outline:
Course Objective:

Organizational Behavior

In general terms, the overall goal of this course is to facilitate improvement in managerial and organizational effectiveness through an understanding and appreciation in the field of organizational behavior. Our efforts will focus on important variables and dynamics at three levels: Individual Group and Interpersonal Organizational At the individual level we will examine individual behavior and differences, learning, perception, personality, motivation and stress. At the second level we will study group and inter group/behavior creativity and team decision making, power, conflict, leadership and communication. At the organizational level we will review the basics of organizational culture, organizational change and development, structure and design, employment relationship and career management. Throughout the course we will integrate the potential moderating effects of relevant cross cultural variables on managerial prescriptions, specific cross objectives include. 1. To provide an overview of the current state of knowledge in the field 2. To improve self awareness and an understanding of the potential impact of personal styles on other vis--vis key behavioral dynamics. 3. To acquire a deeper understanding of the determinants organizational effectiveness. 4. To enhance diagnostic and problem solving skills. 5. To encourage application of newly acquired knowledge about organizational behavior. 6. To discuss and evaluate current trends in the field. 7. To gain an appreciation of cross-cultural differences as powerful variables relevant to effective organization functioning. Expectations: 1. Complete assignments on time and note that assignment marks will be included in your grades. 2. Participate in the class. Class participation may involve asking questions, answering questions, listening carefully the lectures, being involved in class discussion and debate, and research presentations. 3. Take notes on material presented in the class that is not contained in the text or assigned readings.
