THE NEW TREND
Have you recently heard the murmurs of Dada or Cabaret Voltaire throughout Berlin? Chances are that you are hearing Europes newest trend on art. The origins of the word dada illustrate the purpose of this art form. It comes from the French word for hobbyhorse, which doesnt have any significance to anything involved in art whatsoever. Interestingly, our own Hugo Ball is the founder of this artistic movement. It seems as though this movement came about from the rage with the measures of the Great War. As quoted by Ball, It is necessary to clarify the intentions of this cabaret. It is its aim to remind the world that there are people of independent mindsbeyond war and nationalismwho live for different ideals. Unlike previous art movements like Romanticism, there are no set guidelines for Dada. Cubism and Futurism are two largely used forms of Dadaism. It is easy to find in Germany, because the commentary is either in German or French. It is not hard to understand the emotional current guiding the artists thought life, and consequently, their work. Since these artists main aim of this channel of art is self-expression, the types of creations made reflect their feelings entirely. The majority of art involved is mumble-jumbled with various cartoons, words and letters that do not form any meaningful words or sentences, and random shapes. All of these aspects of the piece are cut up in a way that describes confusion and disorder, a great reflection of Germanys state today. If any have a talent for creativity, this is the field to enter currently. Artistic talent in this day and age revolves around emotions, specifically anger and rage, innovative ideas, and unique themes that somehow connect to our recent past with the war.

TRIBUTE TO FORTY-FIVE YEARS
Arnold Schoenberg, one from Jewish descent, has been a leading force in the musical world for the past forty-five years of his life. Although raised in a highly musically talented family, he was self-taught from the age of eight. In his early years as a musician, he started off very well, having much creativity in his pieces. Fifteen years ago, though, he had a large lapse in ideas for his compositions. Since that time, he has composed four works of art, his last piece, the Third String Quartet, was released earlier this year. One of Schoenbergs greatest achievements is the twelvetone technique. This type of composing isnt different from traditional composers in that all pitches are used for both types of music. The difference between using the twelve-tone technique and not, is that all of the pitches are used in a short amount of time in the song, and there are multiple notes being played at the same time. The foundation of this type of method is that no note, or pitch, gets played twice before all of the other notes are played in the scale. Even though people think that this system is simple to pick up, everyone doesnt have an easy time with this concept. Arnold Schoenberg stated from the beginning of his findings with the twelve tones, that he wanted Germany to be the only ones to know about this system, so that we can advance further in music than other countries. Nevertheless, the twelve-tone mechanism has leaked out of Germany, and other countries are benefitting off Schoenbergs ideas. This isnt an entirely awful happening, but the German flavor from the twelvetone technique wont be as unique as it couldve been if musicians hadnt taken the idea from Germany.

OBITUARIES
Friedrich Wilhelm Kuhnert was a German artist. His main passion was wildlife. He travelled to Africa and the Middle East multiple times to scout out the various animals in the wild, and the areas they habituated. His favorite animal to paint was the lion, as can be seen in many of his works. He is known to be one of the most valued German artists to draw and paint animals. He died in February at 61 years of age while living in a rehabilitation home. Franz Stockhausen grew up in an honorable family of musicians. He followed after his father, who was a harpist. For sixteen years, he was the primary conductor for various concerts, including Philharmonic concerts and performances at the Strasbourg Cathedral. Stockhausen also conducted for Socit de Chant Sacr. Not only did Franz conduct, but he also was a Royal professor in Germany. He died at the age of 87 from old age.

This political cartoon illustrates the after effects of the war. The two men with with suits are blaming the soldiers for loosing the war. I believe that Germany was in such confusion and disarray that everybody was blaming everybody else for what happened, while the League of Nations was the force to blamed. All of the blame was the greatest catalyst for the horror that was to come in less than a century. The accusations made by the Allies forced Germany to come to terms with who they were as a country, and what they were going to do about it.
