GERUND
Gerund is noun which is derived from verb by addinging. Behind of it, and it is also calledverbal noun. Gerund is always reqarded as singular. Gerund can be formed when the function of the verb is a subject, object, and possession. 1. Gerund as subject Smoking is not good for health. Swimming is one of my hobby. Playing tennis is fun. Being lazy makes people stupid.

2. Gerund as object We like eating pempek. Doctor suggested him taking a rest at home. Her hobby is collecting stamps. John like hiking in his city.

3. Gerund after preposition : by, in, on, at, of, after, before, without, besides,etc After passing high school, he will enter the sriwijaya university. By studying twice week, we can`t speak English fluently. Before going abroad, we must study English.

4. Gerund after of certain expression : It is not use Worth Busy Can`t help Let`s go : : : : : tiada gunanya patut sibuk tak dapat menahan ayolah/marilah

It is no use telling him about it. This book is worth studying. John is busy preparing his home work. She can`t help crying when hearing the news. Let`s go shopping at pasar 16 palembang.

5. Gerund after of certain verbs : Why do you always avoid meeting him? I enjoy studying English with Miss Nunung. They object to coming here again.

6. Gerund used with possessive adjective (my, your, his, her, our, their). Your coming to her house made her happy. Do you mind my smoking here? The teacher doesnt like our coming late.

7. Gerund after words when, while, since. When riding motorcycle, we must wear a helmet. While walking to school this morning, I met an old friend. Since leaving school, john has been unemployed.

9. Gerund on negative sentence. I consider not going there again. He admitted not seeing mary. We suggested him not telling john about the matter.

10. Gerund on passive sentence. Being + Past Participle. A. As subject Being asked to tidy his room, annoys john. Being told that he is lazy, make him very angry. My sister doesnt like being woken up early The students dont like being given too much home work.

INFINITIVE
Infinitive adalah kata kerja dasar dalam bahasa inggris, misalnya to see, to go, to make etc. A. Penggunaan-penggunaan Infinitive I am happy to meet you Here is sure to come It is necessary to study grammar.

H. Infinitive setelah object pronoun (me, you, him, her, us, them) He advised me to call in a doctor.

CONTINOUS INFINITIVE Digunakan setelah kata-kata kerja : appear, happen, pretend, seem untuk menyatakan bahwa suatu kejadian sedang berlangsung. TO BE + VERB ING Form She appears to be waiting for some one I happened to be passing when the accident took place He seems to be living in this area They pretend to be studying when the teacher entered the class INFINITIVE DALAM PASSIVE VOICE TO BE + PAST PARTICIPLE I dont want to be disturbed while I am working.
