The Government has betrayed us...AGAIN!

29th June 1919

Just a few days ago (28th June), the new Weimar Republic signed the Treaty of Versailles, which has caused us to lose the many supports that we have. This has made us lost 13% of the land that we have (which contains important raw materials) and additionally, we are only allowed 100, 000 soldiers to protect the French. The Allied countries (France, Great Britain, and the USA) have used the force of another war if we werent prepared to sign the Treaty.

After the months of discussions yesterday involving the Allied Countries about the fate of Germany, which the chancellor werent allowed to participate in (for obvious reasons), the treaty gave him and the new government a real shock. After all, we didnt start the war, plus, President Wilson said that the treaty wouldnt too harsh on us. Because of the signing of this treaty by the new Weimar Republic, we are now an incredibly weak country. Here are some of the many terms that we now, as Germany people, we have to accept:

Our Army is now down to a 100,000 men limit (and 15,000 men for the navy), which cant go into the Rhineland to make the French feel safe from a German Attack. Plus, we arent allowed any submarines, tanks or planes. Additionally, we can only have six battleships. A big point of this whole Treaty is that we now have to pay 6,000 million in compensation to countries that we affected by us in the war (reparations), mostly to France, for destroying their land and other countries, to compensate for the lost of many men. We also have to accept that we started the war, not the AustroHungarians. Our Land is now split in two, to give Poland a corridor to the sea. Finally, we lose 13& of our land to the countries around us, such as AlsaceLorraine to France and Danzig to Poland.

We interviewed many people about what they thought. Most said they we were incredibly shocked about how much we have to pay for reparations to other countries and that we had the blame for causing the war when it was actually started by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Many German people are affected by this treaty from soldiers to the common workers. Form our interviews, we found that most people were angry about the harshness of the treaty on Germany. Deutschland Heute asked people on what they thought about the treaty of Versailles. Here are a few opinions on this new treaty: Mr Brann said, The Treaty, to me, wasnt a good idea, in the first place, we even didnt get to negotiate about the terms of the treaty, which has made me quite angry. I thought Wilson was going to use the Fourteen Points on us so the effects wouldnt hit us so hard
