Southern Cooking and BBQ is coming to Chesterfield Village

I am not a Springfield native. Nope, not even close. I come from the land of the Tar Heels Goldsboro, North Carolina to be specific. Its not too often that I see the baby blue and white team colors of UNC, but theres a few of us in the Queen City. Ive been gone long enough to have lost my noticeable Carolina twang. One thing I havent lost is my craving for good Carolina barbecue. The meat is moist and tangy-this comes from the vinegar sauce. It was always served with coleslaw and cornbread. Im not saying NC-style is better than what they serve up in the Ozarks. Its just different and really, really good. I was so excited to discover that the newest restaurant addition to Chesterfield Village is owned by a native of North Carolina and her husband from Tennessee. Enoch and Debbie Morris, along Enoch and Debbie Morris with their daughters Devon and Ryanne and son-in-law Andrew, plan to serve their awardwinning barbecue recipes in a quaint little restaurant called Enochs BBQ & Southern Classics. Customers will have a meat choice of brisket, pulled pork, turkey breast, smoked chicken, or St. Louis-Style ribs with a selection of four sauces. The sauce choices offer people a way to create your own bbq. The flavors include KC sweet, Memphis Southern, Carolina Vinegar, and a sweet and spicy sauce created by Andrew. Families will love the convenience of the new location and the family-friendly atmosphere. The menu has very good prices for family-style meals and kids meals. What makes Enochs BBQ different from the rest in town? I think it is the southern side dishes that are offered every day. In addition to the traditional coleslaw, baked beans and potato salad, customers can also order homemade Brunswick Stew, onion rings and green beans. Debbie says to stop by frequently because new sides are offered every day on a weekly menu and you have to try her homemade desserts! Another great menu choice is the Blue Plate Specials. These meals change daily, come with two sides and are priced well. The Morris family plans to invest back in our community through the donation of 1% of all profits to local charities. The owners did a fantastic job setting up their restaurants website at www.enochsbbq.com. In addition to the regular restaurant menu, you can view catering and take-home menus. Area businesses will like the box lunch choices for large groups. In my interview with Devon, she pointed out that the family picked our area for their restaurant because they liked how Chesterfield Village has the downtown look without the college-town location. When warmer weather comes, customers can sit outdoors and enjoy music and live entertainment. The Morris family is closely-connected and Devon shared memories of family get-togethers that always seemed to center around creating and enjoying new recipes together. Their food has been and will always be made with love. Enochs BBQ will open March 1, 2012. I am sure I will see you there. And remembernext time your hungry kids ask, Mom, whats for dinner?, just tell them to go ask Debbie!

Neighborhood Watch Training

The coordinator of Neighborhood Watch, Edd Liniger, attended training for the Neighborhood Watch Program on February 4. Four residents attended the program which was led by Springfield Police Officers. The session was completely full. We still need LOTS of you to get trained so that our neighborhood can qualify for the new program. New training dates are posted all the time on the Springfield Police Departments website (www.springfieldmo.gov/spd). Residents can sign up online, or can call 417.874.2113 to register. Training is limited to 40 participants. Turn in completed training certificates to Edd Liniger.

Neighborhood Directory
If you arent quite new to the neighborhood, you may still have your old green directory hidden in a drawer somewhere. The directory has contact information for residents at each address, along with a map and other pertinent contact information. New neighbors come and go, so it is time to update the directory to reflect all of the changes. Please fill out the form completely on the last page of the newsletter and give it to your zone captain. The new directory will hopefully be published by summer.

Wont You Be My Neighbor?

A column that profiles a neighbor each month.

I enjoy meeting my neighbors. I value the friendships Ive formed here and hope to live here for a long time. Good neighbors should never be taken for granted. We all either have or have heard of horror stories about the bad oneslike my friends neighbor who tossed his ice-storm tree limbs over the fence into her backyard. She witnessed this from her kitchen window, and no, she doesnt live here! One busy summer day, I realized that some of my neighbors see us more often than my own family. That insight increased my appreciation for the wonderful people who live right on my street.

It seemed like the CV newsletter was lacking in special-interest stories. I thought a column that profiles neighbors would foster a sense of community and increase neighborhood pride. Since this is the columns first appearance, I decided to profile someone I already knowsomeone who has made my family feel welcomed and included in Chesterfield Village.

Everybody, meet Bob Price. Bob lives several houses down from me on West Winchester and hes very easy to track down. He trots past my house several times a day with his ornery fur ball called Abe. I love Abe, and so does my husky puppy! On a warm day, Bob can be found in his front yard practicing his golf swing. I think Bob is the first neighbor I officially met when my husband and I moved in with our one year old daughter. I decided to take my daughter for a walk in her stroller to enjoy the scenery and on my return, I met Bob who was washing his fancy red car on the driveway. His love for children was immediately apparent and my daughter loved Bob from the start. She soon started to demand to go visit Bob and his dog and she relished bossing Bob around. Over time, a second daughter was born and I can tell she will soon have Bob wrapped around her finger too. Rose Wittmer (age 6), Bob Bob and his wife, Sharon have resided in Chesterfield Village Neighborhood for over twelve years. Bob is a retired assistant principal from Camdenton Junior High Price and Abe the dog School and Sharon teaches in the Education Department at Drury University. Sharon is a wonderful educator who supervises all of the future teachers in Drurys student-teaching program. Sharon once served as President of the Chesterfield Village Homeowners Association.

Welcome, New Board Members!

Jennifer Choi, Treasurer
A Springfield native, Jennifer Choi is a GIA Graduate Gemologist who owns two jewelry stores in town. The stores specialize in custom jewelry design and repair. Rose Diamonds was named after Dorothy and Dennie Rose, Jennifers maternal grandparents. The couple used to reside in Chesterfield Village. Jennifer and her family have lived in Chesterfield Village for about one year and she is President at Rose Diamonds custom Design & Repair. Jennifer moved to Chesterfield Village Neighborhood to be closer to her family. In fact, her parents live just two streets away. New to the neighborhood, Jennifer immediately got involved in Kids Club Activities and was asked to serve on the Board as the new Treasurer. In her new position, Jennifer immediately addressed areas for improvement in our budget. According to Jennifer, Part of being a business owner is learning to change with the times . By utilizing the latest technology and diligently researching options, we can stretch annual assessment income in an attempt to increase neighborhood benefits. Chad Carter, Clubhouse Rentals

Chad Carter has lived in Chesterfield Village since 2002. He was attracted here by the location, amenities and friendly neighbors. Chad holds degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis Tennessee. Chad is a Doctor of Optometry and is currently employed by Sears Optical. In his free time, he likes to play the piano and travel. Chad rented the Clubhouse multiple times over the past several years and over time, he got to know the former Clubhouse Board Member, Judy Herndon. He became familiar with the rental routine and when the position became vacant, he saw a great opportunity to take an active role on the Board of Directors. If you are interested in renting the clubhouse for a private party, please contact Chad at 417-501-6345. The cost to book the clubhouse is $40.00 and it is available year-round.
