Rubric to evaluate summary reports in CINA 4072 (direct measures).

Organization, development of ideas, content, information management, and writing skills.

Second Instance (CINA 4072): Expected: 65% of students demonstrate a level of good or more. Findings: Excellent 40% Good 40% Fair 20% Poor 0% The expected goal was reached as 80% of the students were between good and excellent. In addition, it was found that under the criteria for vocabulary and concepts, 97% were excellent. Writing skills, however, were found to be 70% fair or less.

Add a module to the seminar that includes scientific writing. Eventually we will add a new course in the design and analysis of experiments that will incorporate scientific writing.

Research in environmental science.

The student shows understanding of scientific concepts in question and can relate concepts and results effectively.

Number of students participating in research experiences (CINA 4997).

Student presentation (written) of a research proposal.

Expected: 60% or more of students participating in and successfully completing a research proposal. Findings: 100% of students completed a research proposal with a very good or excellent. However, enrollment or student participation was limited to 12 students out of a total possible student body of approximately 150 students.

Highlight research opportunities and experiences in the new student orientation and during student advisement. Develop a new interactive webpage with research and internship opportunities, plus increase the number of special seminars on research opportunities and research experiences.
