Our company has been assigned the task of designing a pipeline to move 3.5 m3/hour of cyclohexane from a storage tank located in the tank-farm to a day-tank inside the battery limits of a refinery. The storage tank is an API low pressure storage tank with a capacity of 500,000 gallons. The day-tank is a 50,000 gallons elevated tank, located 30 feet above the refinery floor and protected with a nitrogen blanket at 5 psig. The distance between the storage tank and the day tank is about 1000 ft. The refinery is located in Baton Rouge LA. The cost of electricity in Baton Rouge is of $ 0.12/kWhr. Draw a flowsheet. Write a report including capital and operating costs. If the process consumption of cyclohexane is 500 gall/hour, compute the yearly costs of at least two alternatives and justify the choice of one.
