6 March LONDON MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS The sale features a violin by Nicol Amati, one of the greatest names in violinmaking history. The grandson of Andrea Amati, the inventor of the violin, Nicol was the leading violin maker in Italy from 1630-84. This violin is made on his finest model, the Grand Pattern, and dates from 1682, the final years of his life. It is estimated at 250,000-350,000*. Further highlights in the sale include a violin by J.B. Vuillaume, made in Paris in 1845; a violin by Gennaro Gagliano, produced in Naples circa 1760 and estimated at 40,000-60,000; and a cello by Carlo Antonio Testore, made in Milan, circa 1750, estimated at 80,000-120,000.

13 March LONDON FINE JEWELS The sale of fine jewels will include exquisite Replicas of the Crown Jewels estimated at 3,000-5,000. The replicas comprise St Edwards Crown decorated with coloured pastes, with purple velvet and a fur trim; the Sovereigns Sceptre, incorporating a simulant stone representing the Cullinan I; and the Sovereigns Orb, all accompanied by three velvet cushions. Another stunning highlight a Gold and Citrine Parure, circa 1830, comprising a necklace, a pair of bracelets, pair of pendent earrings, three hair ornaments and a brooch. All are set with variously shaped faceted citrines between scroll and floral repouss work motifs, and is estimated at 20,000-30,000.

14 March LONDON GIOVANNI THE COLLECTION OF GIOVANNI AND GABRIELLA BARILLA The Collection of Giovanni & Gabriella Barilla: Important Porcelain, Venetian Fine and Decorative Arts from their Residence in Geneva, come from the descendants of the most important pasta producer in the world, Giovanni Barilla and in his wife Gabriella. They created one of the greatest collections of ceramics and porcelain in Europe, focusing on exceptional Meissen figures including a wonderful collection of some of the earliest Commedia dellArte figures as well as some of the rarest groups of Capodimonte and Buen Retiro ever offered on the market. Also comprising an exquisite selection of Venetian eighteenth-century furniture and paintings, sixteenth-century majolica, silver and a group of illuminated books of Hours, the sale comprises more than 400 lots and is expected to fetch in excess of 2.5 million. 28 March PARIS LIVRES ILLUSTRS MODERNES DE LA BIBLIOTHQUE R. & B.L. A host of 20th century masters are represented in this sale, including Bonnard, Braque, Chagall, Delaunay, Dufy, Giacometti, Gris, Laurencin, Lger, Maillol, Masson, Matisse, Mir, Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec and Wols, who have personalized many of these rare books with dedications, sometimes accompanied by original drawings. There are also superb bindings by internationally renowned specialists such as Rose Adler, Bonet, Creuzevault, Madeleine Gras, Hugnet, Leroux, Martin, Mercher, Miguet, Germaine Schroeder and Sguy. The sale comprises an exceptional ensemble of nearly 190 lots, with an overall estimated value of 2.6-3.6 million ($2.4-4.7 million). 29 March LONDON OLD MASTER, MODERN & CONTEMPORARY PRINTS A major print by Rembrandt will highlight the Old Masters section. Desirable Modern and Contemporary works by Picasso and Warhol, among others, which will also be featured, demonstrating the lasting and innovative use of print by artists for over 500 years. Rembrandts Christ Crucified Between the Two Thieves: The Three Crosses comes to the market with an estimate of 250,000-350,000. This monumental etching is often singled out as the masterpiece of Rembrandts graphic

oeuvre. The Three Crosses rivals the impact of a painting through its subject matter and scale. Executed mainly in the delicate medium of drypoint, the print is rare. This fourth state impression is one of the most exciting states of this print, where Rembrandt drastically reworked the composition producing variable impressions of this state. Among the prints by the leading Pop artists is a selection by Andy Warhol, including Anniversary Donald Duck, estimate 25,000-35,000, Rebel Without A Cause, estimate 35,000-45,000 and Myths: Superman, estimate: 60,000-80,000. 5 April PARIS COLLECTION OF FLORENCE LOEB The daughter of the renowned dealer Pierre Loeb, who dealt in the most renowned modern artists, such as Picasso, Miro and Giacometti, Florence Loeb inherited from her father not only an affinity with the most visionary artists of her era, but also a passion for travel and foreign cultures. In part this came from a life changing meeting in 1946, when Florence, aged only 16, first encountered playwright, poet, actor and theatre director Antonin Artaud. From then on she travelled incessantly, searching for what he termed the thunderbolt of second life. She took great pleasure in sharing her experiences, holding regular seminars that she called Celebration of Life, hence the name of this sale. The highlight is the most beautiful group of books and drawings by Artaud himself, including the legendary self-portrait of 1946, in addition to a portrait by her father by Alberto Giacometti and a session dedicated to African, Oceanic and Native American art from Pierre Loebs collection. 18 April PARIS JOURDANTHE RAYMOND & PIERRE JOURDAN- BARRY COLLECTION; FRENCH 17th- 18TH CENTURY SILVER This magnificent collection of 17th and 18th century silver will include pieces made by the best French silversmiths both from Paris and the provinces. This collection was started in the 1950s by Raymond Jourdan-Barry, who wrote a seminal book on Aix en Provence and Marseilles silver, and widely enriched by his son Pierres collecting. Among the Parisian makers is a superb silver-gilt ecuelle by Thomas Germain in 1722. Germain is the most famous maker in 18th century Paris, who introduced the Italian Rococo style in silver. All of the French provincial towns reputed for the quality of their silversmiths are included in this auction: Lille (Pacot), Toulouse (Samson), Strasburg (Imlin, Oertel) and Bayonne (J Delanne). Ewers and basins, beakers, olive spoons, 16th and 17th century flatware, ecuelles, candelabra, wedding cups, sugar bowls are offered together with a rare collection of silver and silver-gilt 18th century boxes.

18 April PARIS IMPORTANT EUROPEAN SILVER & GOLD BOXES The section of this sale devoted to German silver will include highly important pieces with a set of five candlesticks by Bernhard Heinrich Wey, Augsburg, 174349, engraved with the arms of Count Christian Carl zu LeiningenDagsburg-Falkenburg (Heidesheim) and his wife Katharina Countess zu Solms. Other highlights are a set of four parcel-gilt silver circular guild medallions by Jeremias Ritter, Nurnberg, circa 1646, from the Baron Karl and James de Rothschild collections; and a large silver-gilt ewer by Michael Muller, Nurnberg, circa 1618, given by Emperor Matthias. Among the French silver will be a fine Rgence Parisian inkstand with bell and a rare natural bread basket, Henri Husson, cast by Barbedienne, Paris, circa 1900 and a pair of entree-dishes with Bacchus finials, Paris, circa 1785. The vertu in the sale includes a large silver-gilt singing bird box by Charles Bruguier, Geneva, 1828. 20 April PARIS FINE FURNITURE, SCULPTURE AND WORKS OF ART The highlight of the sale is an exquisite Savonnerie carpet from the Atelier of Simon Lourdet, Paris, Chaillot factory, circa 1632. The carpet, which measures 396.2 by 5 by 579.1 cm, carries an estimate of 1,800,000 2,200,000. 2424- 26 April LONDON TURKISH AND ISLAMIC WEEK: CLASSICAL TO CONTEMPORARY Including AN EYE FOR OPULENCE: ART OF THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE; ARTS OF THE EMPIRE; ISLAMIC WORLD; THE ORIENTALIST SALE; TURKISH CONTEMPORARY ART Sothebys is delighted to present its forthcoming sale of a private collection of Ottoman art, An Eye for Opulence: Art of the Ottoman Empire, which will take place on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 during Turkish and Islamic Week: Classical to Contemporary. The singleowner sale will comprise a broad selection of works across a variety of media, spanning more than four hundred years of Ottoman art from the 15th to the 19th century. In addition to Iznik ceramics, manuscripts, silverware, decorative arts and textiles, the sale will also include a number of European paintings and Turqueries, reflecting artistic exchanges between the Ottoman Empire and Europe, and the Wests fascination with the 'exoticism' of the Ottoman court. Highlighting An Eye for Opulence: Art of the Ottoman Empire will be a 17th century North Italian School profile portrait of Sultan Murad I (r.1359-89) with an inscription noting his assassination estimated at 150,000-200,000. Also included are two albums of drawings and watercolours by the Maltese artist Amadeo Preziosi: the first a travel album containing some forty-eight vignettes of his travels through Europe, from London to Constantinople, estimated at 120,0004

180,000; the second with 35 lively, full-length portraits including Turkish, Arab, and Greek figures in colourful traditional dress, including soldiers, a scribe, and dervishes, estimated at 50,000-70,000. Comprising 254 lots, this important private collection is estimated to realise in excess of 3.5 million. In addition, the Orientalist Sale on 24 April will showcase paintings, drawings and sculpture depicting Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa, led by masterpieces by the Russian artist Ivan Aivazovsky and the Turkish painter and polymath Osman Hamdy Bey. Aivazovskys View of Constantinople and the Bosphorus is one of the artists most spectacular landscapes and is estimated at 1,200,000-1,800,000. A Young Emir Studying by Osman Hamdy Bey (pictured; estimate 3,000,000-5,000,000) is the first of two known compositions by the artist depicting a reclining man at study before a richly detailed background, and shows the young artist at the height of his powers. # *Pre-sale estimates do not include buyers premium # #
