This little gland in the brain is known to the Shaman as a receiver/transmitter to the world of Spirit, the pineal is the only gland in the body that stores light. It is considered the receptor for creativity, inspiration, and other Divine properties. Stanford University has conducted many studies about this gland. If unused the Pineal atrophies and calcifies. Meditation has been known to enlarge the Pineal as well as some other techniques (see figure 3 on the next page). Some historical figures reputed for Their Divine communication are often pictured with enlarged foreheads from the Pinneal's expansion.

Joel Signeur demonstrates Beating the Heavenly Drums. Holding the palms firmly over the ears reduces sound from the outside while the fingers roll over the head making a drumming sound inside. This ancient Chinese technique stimulates the Pineal gland and enhances the reception and transmission of the drummer. Practicing this technique regularly is one way of building the Pineal gland.

Besides the endocrine glands secreting hormones to the body, each of these glands embodies one of the Five Elements. This overall energy is linked to the Meridian System, through the Triple Heater Meridian.
