ADVERSE EFFECTS

NURSIING RESPONSIBILITIES Check vital signs, especially blood pressure. Too rapid infusion can cause hypotension. Closely monitor patients with renal insufficiency Watch for hypersensitivi ty reaction. Discontinue drug immediately and symptoms occur.

Brand name: Tavanic Generic name: levofloxacin Classification: Anti-infective Dosage: 750mg Route: PO Frequency

Inhibits the enzymes DNA gyrase in susceptible gramnegative and grampositive aerobic and anerobic bacteria, interfering with bacterial DNA synthesis

Complicated urinary tract infection

Contraindicated with allergy to fluoroquinolones Use cautiously with renal dysfunction

ADVERSE EFFECTS

NuRSING RESPONSIBITILITIES Monitor for signs and symptoms of hypersensitivity reaction. Check patients temperature and watch for other signs and symptoms of superinfection, especially oral or rectal candidiasis Monitor CBC and liver function test result.

Brand name: UNASYN Generic name: ampicillin sodium and sullbactam sodium Classification: Anti- infective Dosage: 1.5mg Route: IVTT Frequency: q 8

Destroys bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell- wall synthesis during microbial multiplication. Addition of sulbactam enhances drugs resistance to betalactamase, an enzyme that can in activate ampicillin

Intra- abdominal, skin- structures infections caused by susceptible betalactamase producing strains

Hypersensitivity to penicilins, cephalosporins, or other betalactamase inhibitors

Brand name: Cleocin Generic name: clindamycin Classification: Anti- infective Dosage: 300mg Route: IVTT ( ANST) (-) Frequency: q 6

Inhibits protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria at level of 50`s ribosome, thereby inhibiting peptide bond formation and causing cell death

Severe infections caused by sensitive organism

Hypersensitivity to drug or lincomycin

Nausea Vomiting Diarrhea Abdominal pain Esophagitis Neutropenia Leukeponia Jaundice Hepatic dysfunction
