IP Solutions are already common in e-business and become also important for utility communications.
Interconnection of geographical spread offices can be realized using IP technology as internet and/or intranet solutions. The internet is a cost-efficient solution for data services. In addition to that, secure connections based on SDH or PDH can be used for the interconnection with LAWA 4 to provide highest reliability for TCP/IP applications.

Benefits The LAWA 4 is a new IP card included in the FOX 515 platform. It offers operators many opportunities to add new services and to save costs in existing applications. The LAWA 4 connects a local area network (LAN) over a 10BaseT interface with the FOX 515 for access to the various Aggregate units the FOX 515 supports. The list below gives a brief overview:
s Wide range of data services (LAN,
dedicated networks It saves the cost of an external router s Fully integrated management All the functions can be managed by software (UNEM/UCST) s Saves backbone capacity Cascadable IP Concentration s Can be used in all types of SDH, PDH, IP and Frame Relay networks Wide range of FOX 515 interfaces Included in the future-oriented ABB platform concepts

Different LANs can be connected over LAWA 4 using the FOX 515 STM1 backbone. Together with voice and other data cards. FOX 515 provides a comprehensive solution for all kinds of applications.
Different, independent networks for SCADA, video supervision, LAN interconnection, and other applications can be realized with the FOX 515 platform. For instance, to prevent SCADA data being blocked by video traffic, separate networks can be implemented.

In this application the LAWA 4 card works as a bridge. Two networks have their own router or switch, LAWA 4 provides the interconnection.
s Point-to-Point Network.
LAWA 4 is a cost-effective solution to interconnect two geographically separated LANs over a FOX 515 STM 1 link. Routing supports TCP/IP traffic, whereas bridging can be used for other protocols.
s Linear Network.
The LAWA 4 card can be connected with other IP cards, such as LEMU 6 and COLT soho.
The Management of the LAWA 4 card is carried out from the platform software UNEM/CST. IP addresses and routing tables are defined by the carrier. Using a password and LAWA 4s IP address, a LAN administrator can check the status and performance of transmission and router parameters over a local management port or using a Telnet session.
