Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION Locker-Deodorizer

Often times, lockers are invaded by offensive perspiration, body, foot, smoke, food, Bacterial, fungal, mold, and mildew odors from items that are stored in them. Pungent locker odors will increase in concentration if left untreated and could become unbearable. Covering up nasty lockers with masking agents like perfumes pollute the air with chemicals and many times result in even more offensive smells.

Students do not always have leisure time in washing and cleaning their lockers, because of the limited time there is when in school. They are not magicians to stop time everyday. By then, they find their lockers smelly because of glue spills, or even sometimes, the spoiled food odor leaves behind when not cleaned. Since they are no billionaires to buy an expensive air freshener that can maintain lockers sweet smelling all the time, the organic lockerdeodorizer/spray is just the ticket.

With some organic materials such as fruits, and other pure substances, we can make our own freshener. The locker-deodorizer can only maintain lockers sweet smelling for only in a short period of time. But, it can hide the bad odor with its natural sweet fruity essence, plus, it kills bacteria with just one spray!

This group chose this study because they thought that many students have big problems with their locker when not cleaned. They do not always have much time for their lockers since their schedule in school is filled up with activities that make these students busy. With this lockerdeodorizer, students will be able to save time. 1

If the student has a smelly locker, then this product is just the ticket!

A. Background of the study This group chose this study to work on because they thought that many students have problems with their smelly lockers. Most of the students that have lockers think that owning is locker is very problematic especially when theres no time to clean it. Glue spills can really cause lockers to smell, and even spoiled food. Spoiled food leaves an awful odor when ignored. Sweaty clothes produce a bad odor, too. Having a smelly locker would mean shame to most students. First, what are the causes of having a smelly locker? It may be due to Glue spills, or the spoiled food in store. Failure to secure sweaty clothes and drink spills cause to smell too. Failure to clean the locker causes molds, fungi and bacteria to feed on lockers which will cause them to smell. B. Statement of the Problem/Objectives

The objective of this product is to reduce and control smelly lockers and makes the user worry-free. It does not only help the user, but also Mother Nature. If the student uses perfumes, it pollutes the air which makes it a harmful effect on Mother Nature. Or even sometimes, it makes the smell worse. If the students use this product, then here are many advantages that the user can benefit. The user can already recycle certain materials such as plastics that will decay in a very long period of time. The objectives of this product are; 1. To reduce offensive locker smells 2. Provide the user a clean and sweet smelling locker they would enjoy themselves. 3. It allows the student to save money because the materials needed are present at homes. This product is very efficient and can maintain lockers sweet for a period of time.

C. Hypothesis If students use the locker-deodorizer to stop and prevent smelly lockers, then the fruity essence from the locker-deodorizer will reduce bad odor and the locker will be odor-free!

D. Significance of the study

This study is beneficial for both students and other people who have problems with the odors that their different lockers have, it may be from the sweaty clothes they have or the spilled glue inside it. This group would like to help them eliminate the bad odor that they could smell in their lockers so that they would be able to have a happy disposition since they would not be worried about the odor inside their lockers. This group would like to help them solve this problem of theirs to prevent and stop bad odor of their lockers. This product is very simple to make, for it does not take too much money to buy the materials needed. The materials are already available in homes and it is very effective for locker owners.

E. Scope and Limitations

The locker-deodorizer is an effective product that can maintain lockers sweet smelling in a period of time. It can last for a week depending on use. The materials needed do not cost a lot, and the materials are available at homes like salt, alcohol and oil. This product is very easy to make and it does not even take a day to make it. 1 hour is enough in order to make this product. This product is efficient and reusable, plus, the user can save more especially the needed materials are found at homes and save time!

It's No Cover-up The Smelleze Locker Deodorizer Pouch is a natural deodorizer that can be used to eliminate pungent perspiration, body, foot, smoke, bacteria, mold, mildew, and fungal odors instead of merely masking them with perfumes. Smelleze is negatively charged whereas odoriferous gases ride on positively charged particles. As a result, Smelleze draws in locker odors like a strong magnet. Thereafter, it traps, neutralizes, and encapsulates the odors without smelly cover-ups. The molecular structure of Smelleze is made up of a lattice structure arranged to form a honeycomb framework of billions of interconnecting channels. This gives Smelleze an enormous surface area that is larger than several football fields. The latter enables Smelleze to adsorb phenomenal amounts of stinky locker odors and work unattended for months.

Environmentally Friendly The Smelleze Locker Deodorizer Pouch is non-toxic, safe, non-hazardous, natural, nonscented, recyclable and non-caustic. It is an ideal environmentally friendly solution for eliminating locker room odors without adding pollutants to the air you breathe. Chapter 3: Methodology

The Locker-deodorizer is a simple product to make and does not cost too much Money Because the materials and equipments needed to make are available at home. This product is very effective if the user will follow the correct and proper steps of making this locker-deodorizer. This product works similar to an air freshener. The difference between an air freshener and this product are the components that make up this product such as the organic substances that give the natural essence to the locker. The product also accepts designs that are compatible to the final product. This product is always available for personalization. Materials/ Equipments needed: 8-9 Fresh Sampaguita flowers (Ilang-Ilang is also accepted) 10-11 ml Alcohol 1 teaspoon rock salt 50 ml water Orange/Red food coloring 10 ml cooking oil Small mayonnaise bottle 8 x 8 inches cloth *Blender * Spoon * 2-3 plastic containers * Fine strainer *Silver dust (to add ingenuity to the product) * Construction paper (if necessary) * Ribbons (20 inches) 9

Procedures: Be prepared of all the complete materials and equipments needed in the experiment. Complete materials are important so that we can obtain the correct and finished product later on. This group prepared the fresh Sampaguita flowers first. Make sure that there are 8-9 pieces depending on the quantity of the locker-deodorizer. Keep in mind that the flowers must be fresh in order to blend them with water using the blender later. After that, they got the blender and placed the flowers inside with 20 ml water. Blend well until the petals are almost dissolved in the water. In this step, assure that the petals are still visible, making it possible to separate the solid particles with the liquid containing the juice of the flowers. Third, this group used the strainer to separate the liquid away from unwanted elements. Make sure that after straining the liquid it still measures 15 ml and above. Fourth, they added 4-7ml of alcohol to the mixture to kill bacteria in order to give the mixture a better odor. At the same time, they added teaspoon rock salt. Consider that salt is a compound of sodium and chloride which makes it an anti-bacterial compound. Salt also preserves as much as it is used as preservatives in food to make it last for a longer period of time. Afterwards, they stirred it, dissolving the salt in the mixture. In order to make the product presentable, they used the food coloring to add color to the mixture. Take only very few drops, remember that the food coloring is concentrated. Choose red or orange as the color. After that, they placed the colored mixture unto the small mayonnaise bottle. To add ingenuity and design to the product, they sprinkled silver dust. Then they took out the oil and poured it in the small mayonnaise bottle containing the mixture. Just like a lava lamp, the semi-finished deodorizer is composed of oil floating on top of the product. The next step

10

would be complex. We arrange the cloth on top of the bottle so that it would appear presentable as possible. Firstly, they placed the cloth on the opening of the bottle and tied it with a ribbon on the rim.

Chapter 4: Results and Discussions After conducting several experiments, reviews, and findings of the resulted product, the researchers have arrived at some results that contain information to be further clarified. Surveys have been conducted in order to test the ability and efficiency of the said product. The researchers made two different locker-deodorizers containing various results different from each other. With each one having different properties such as amount of flowers used or amount of alcohol used.
