Surakarta (Solo), Central Java, Indonesia July 2nd - 5th, 2012 Every two or three years, the International Association of Historians of Asia (IAHA) organizes a conference that provides a platform for the experts on the various aspects and dimensions of Asian history to meet and share their knowledge. Since its establishment in 1960, IAHA has held regular conferences in various places in Asia. The association of historians is dedicated to the promotion of historical research on Asia. At the 21st Conference in Singapore Indonesia was elected as the host of the 22nd Conference. The committee has decided to hold it from July 2 to July 5, 2012. Under the Presidency of Prof. Dr. Azyumardi Azra (Professor of History and Director of Graduate School of the State Islamic University, Jakarta ), the 22nd Conference will be held in Surakarta (Central Java), the city near the world renowned Prambanan and Borobudur temples. The theme of the conference is Remembering the Past, Experiencing the Present, and Exploring the Future. Topics to be discussed in the conference are: I. History and Historiography: From Sources to Theory II. Movement of the People in the Border Areas III. Culture: Heritage of the Past, Trends in the Present IV. Gender, Politics and Democracy V. Security, Defense, and Welfare VI. Environment and Natural Disasters in Historical Perspective VII. Religion and Politics IX. Tourism in Asia X. Demography, Urbanization, and Transportation XI. Literature and Contemporary Society XII. Medical History and Healthcare The participation of scholars of other disciplines in the IAHA conference is great place to establish scholarly networks.

Abstract submission deadline : 30 December 2011 Full text submission deadline : 1 April 2012 The full papers are written in English maximum of 15 pages, A4 paper size, 1,5 space, which can be prepared in CD, and should reach the secretariat of conference not later than April 2012 3. Guidelines for the Submission of Abstracts : - Type abstract in English, using black carbon on the white paper, maximum of 250 characters. - Type complete title in capital letters - Type complete name(s) of author(s) with family names in capital letters. - On the following line, type department and institution of affiliation; and city and country. B. Registration fee 1. Registration fee US$ 130; includes: - 4 dinners, 3 lunches - Mid morning and afternoon coffee breaks - Conference kit(s) 2.
