Chapter 1 - First census Levites to carry to tabernacle Chapter 3-5 duties of Levites Chapter 6 Priestly Blessing: (24 - 26) The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Chapter 8 Back to the Levites They were in service from the age of 25 to 50 Chapter 10 Outsiders part of the camp For example, v. 29 Hobab, Moses brother-in-law, a Midianite So they set out from the mountain of the Lord and traveled for 3 days. (v. 33) Chapter 11 The people began to complain about their hardships (v. 1) The rabble with them began to crave other food (v. 4) (The outsiders -- watch who you hang out with!) God sends quail. pomegranates and figs. (v. 23) Explored land 40 days.

Chapter 14 The people rebel again. The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punished the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation. (v17) God sentences the people to wandering in the wilderness for 40 years -- 1 year for each day the spies explored the land (v. 34). Only Joshua and Caleb are exempt. Chapter 16 Korah and his band of followers rebel and are swollowed up by the earth. Chapter 20 Israel complains again about the food and no water. God instructs Moses to speak to the rock. Moses strikes it twice instead. His punishment for not trusting God and honoring him is that he will not enter the promised land. Aaron dies. Edom refuses to let Israel pass through. Chapter 21The people complain about the food and no water. God sends plague of venomous snakes. Israel defeats Arad and the Amorites.

Chapter 22 Balak, Midianite prince, summons Balaam son of Peor to curse Israel. Midian had seen that Israel had been successful in defeating

nearby nations and wanted to drive them away. Balaam was a soothsayer (see Joshua 13:22) that Balak wanted to employ to curse Israel. Balaam obviously knew his limits. He knew he could only go as far as God would allow. It stands to reason that one who has dabbled in the dark side knows its limits and knows what he is up against. Balaam knew that he was biting off more than he could chew if he did what Balak requested. But, he was also greedy. He kept entertaining the Midianites. In Num 22:12 the directive will of Jehovah is made known to Balaam, in Num 22:20 Jehovah's permissive will. (Balaam was always free to make his own decision.) The prophet is now free to go, but knows the true mind of the Lord about it. Just as God sends warnings to us when we get out of his will, He also warned Balaam with the Angel and the talking donkey. When Balaam arrived at Midian, no matter how badly part of him might have wanted to do what the king offered to pay him for, he couldnt. Instead of cursing Israel, he blessed them. But later, he was apparently so irritated at the turn of events that he advised the Midianite women that they could corrupt Israel by seducing the men (see Numbers 31:15-16). The consequence for Balaam? Numbers 31:8: They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? -- Numbers 23:19

Chapter 25 Moabite women seduce men of Israel. God sent plague. 24,000 die. Plague ended when Phinehas killed an Israelite man and Moabite woman who were parading their sin in front of everybody.
