Human Anatomy Test

(6 grades)

What do I need to know? What should I study? 1. Basically, be able to point to any structure on a diagram of the body, identify the name of the structure, and tell the function of that organ. 2. If the system is has a process, know the steps and in what order they occur. 3. Know the overall functions of each system. 4. Make sure you study the vocabulary involved with the organs.

Human Body Systems:

Skeletal: Know the bones of the body, head, and vertebral column Understand the structure of a long bone, how it grows Know the main articulation (joint) types and where to find them. Gliding, ball-and-socket, hinge, pivot.

Integumentary: -Describe the 3 main regions: epidermis, dermis, hypodermis

- What does each layer contain? What is the function?

Muscular System: Describe the 3 types of muscle tissue, be able to identify them by sight. Describe the anatomy of a skeletal muscle. Explain the function of a sarcomere (sliding filament theory).

Nervous System: Describe the anatomy of a neuron, explain how a nervous impulse is conducted. Explain how a neurotransmitter helps neurons communicate Describe the roles of various divisions of the nervous system.

Describe/identify the structures of the brain and their functions.

Digestive System: Describe the stages and different types of digestion and where they occur. Know where certain types of nutrients are broken down. Identify the digestive organs and their functions.

Excretory System: - Explain the purpose of the excretory system. - Describe the anatomical structures of the excretory system, including the parts of the kidney. Be able to describe the role of each structure.

Respiratory System:

Follow the path of air through the body, describing each anatomical structure and its function.

Circulatory System: Describe the anatomy of the heart, tracing the pathway of blood around the body. Compare/contrast the structure and function of an artery/vein/capillary. Describe how blood pressure is measured. Compare and contrast the different components of blood. Describe the anatomy of blood typing, be able to identify which blood types are compatible and why.

Endocrine System: Identify the organs of the endocrine system and what hormones they produce. What do these hormones do?

Describe how a negative feedback loop works, using blood glucose as an example of a bodily function under hormonal control.

Reproductive System: Identify the structures and functions of the female reproductive system. Describe the role of different hormones in the reproductive cycles of females. Identify the structures and functions of the female reproductive system. Describe the role of different hormones in the reproductive function of males.
