On the concept of the database on the role of aquatic organisms in biogenic migration of matter including metals and other elements The principal elements of the concept of the database for assessment of the role of aquatic organisms (including invertebrates - mollusks and others) in biogenic migration of matter are given. It is suggested that the database include both some biological parameters of the populations of aquatic organisms and some chemical parameters on the elemental composition of the tissues of the organisms. Among biological parameters, it is relevant to include the data on the filtration rates of filter-feeders, and the data on the rate of excretion of pellets. The database will also accommodate the data on the role of aquatic plants. Orig. 4 Effects of the synthetic surfactants and chemical mixtures on marine mollusks used in aquaculture
Agris
Effects of several synthetic surfactants and chemical mixtures, which are among aquatic pollutants, on marine mollusks were studied. An anionic surfactant, sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS), and a cationic surfactant, tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TDTMA) Inhibited filtering activity of the oysters (Crassostrea gigas). Similar effects were produced by some chemical mixtures that included synthetic surfactants. Those mixtures inhibited filtering activity of the oysters Crassostrea gigas and muss Ostroumov, S.A., Lomonosov Moscow State Univ. (Russian Federation) ( ) 2009-01-01
Agris This is the first time it was shown that the nanoparticles of gold (Au) in substantial amount bind to the living biomass of the aquatic plant (macrophyte), Ceratophyllum demersum. The concentrations of gold were measured in the samples of the phytomass using neutron activation analysis (NAA). As a result of the binding and/or immobilization of the nanoparticles, the amount of gold in the samples of the phytomass increased manifold above the background level of gold in the plant tissues.
