In 1975, the Cadet Training Group was formed. The CTG provides continuity in training and a uniqu experience for all cadets. Every Squadron is issued a Squadron number, which is never repeated again, making every Squadron the cadets'
own.

McClellan Air Force Base

You have been stayin at McClellan Air Force Base, the home of the Air Logistics Command. The base was n I always known as Meet llan Air For e Base. In 1936 when the construction of the base was begun, the official name was Sacra meruo Air Depolo The person who i known as the "Father of M Clellan Air orce Base is Arthur S. Dudley (I 3-1977). Dudley was the iccretary-Manag r of the Sacramento Chamber or Commerce for 23 ycars. He had leading roles in d vel ping many or the area's major activities, arnons them the air bases and the I ort f Sacramento. A Iter his succe . ful lobbying effort for the ncrarncnto Air Depolo He help d obtain the land, worked with Army officers overseeing constru tion, help d lind housing for the employees transferring from Rockwell, arranged the ground breaking and dedication ceremonies and generally did whatever he could to support. McClellan and its people. Major Hczckiah "Hez' McCkHan (1894- L936), the base's namesake. pioneered aviation r utes to and within Ala ka in the J 90's. He made charts and gathered information that became the basis for maps of the area used during World War Il. He died in 1936 while testing a new aircraft. On December I, 1939. the War Department named the new base in honor of Major MClellan. Maj r McClcll n had n onncction with the base, ut it was the War Department's p licy to name new installation: for Air Corp members who died in th linc of duty. The places and street names at McClellan Air Force Base are memorial to people who have been important to the base. Some were generals, , ho effected the early history of the Air Force (Arnold, Foulouis Marshall Mitchell, Westover); some are more recent leader . Others were important to McClellan's early years or were a e Commanders. Several w re civili n employees who made significant contributions or sacrifices. Ther was a heroic sergeant (Jones), fighter pilot (Roberts), flying ergeant (Rafferty), astronaut (Onizuka), woman officer (Dean) Connie pilot. (Lang), teacher (Skvarla) and many more. Goals of Encampments
Civil Air Patrol encampments are designed to provide CAP members an opportunity (1) to apply know/edge gained in the cadet and senior programs to practical situations, (2) to develop a greater understanding of the CAP mission and CAP capabilities, and (3) to develop their potential for aerospace leadership in an actual aerospace environment. Furthermore, it has been found that a cadet's first encampment has a significant impact upon subsequent interest and desire to remain in the program. Thus, retention and motivation can be considered as additional purposes of encampments. You have been attending a (Type A" Encampment. These are conducted under CAP supervision with Air Force advice, assistance, and cooperetion and they enable cadets to live in the environment of an active installation. They are conducted at selected Air Force, Air Guard, or Air Force Reserve bases which have been requested by National Headquarters.

Encampment can be the most significant and worthwhile training experience in a CAP cadet's career.

This training not only includes the required basic academic program, but also involves molding his night together with a sense f belonging and pride. Creating high mor Ie and esprit d corps is th goal. Tasks are often used to accom plish the overall goal of proving the value of the individual as a member of the team; thus rack making, rolling underwear, etc., which might seem mundane are actually teaching this

It is the Flight Staff which implements the training process and enforces the performance standards. It is their responsibility to ensure the appropriate examples are given in each situation and to ensure each cadet meets the standards. The ability of the cadets improve as the training process proce ds. Part of this process also include the motivation of the cadets. Care is taken to ensure that each member of the flight understands what is expected of him.
